அப்படியே அவன் சிக்லாகுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகையில், மனாசேயில் அத்னாக், யோசபாத், எதியாவேல், மிகாயேல், யோசபாத், எலிகூ, சில்த்தாயி என்னும் மனாசே கோத்திரத்தாரின் ஆயிரத்துச் சேர்வைக்காரர் அவன் பட்சமாய் வந்தார்கள்.

சவுலின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்யப்போகிற பெலிஸ்தர்களுடனே தாவீது வருகிறபோது, மனாசேயிலும் சிலர் அவனுக்கு ஆதரவாகச் சேர்ந்தார்கள்; பெலிஸ்தர்களின் பிரபுக்கள் யோசனைசெய்து, அவன் நம்முடைய தலைகளுக்கு மோசமாகத் தன்னுடைய ஆண்டவனாகிய சவுலிற்கு ஆதரவாகப் போவான் என்று அவனை அனுப்பிவிட்டார்கள்; அதனால் அவர்கள் இவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்யவில்லை.

மனாசேயின் கோத்திரத்தில் உள்ள சிலர் தாவீதோடு சேர்ந்துகொண்டனர். அவன் பெலிஸ்தர்களோடு சேர்ந்துகொண்டு சவுலுக்கு எதிராகச் சண்டை செய்யப் போனபோது மனாசே கோத்திரத்தினர் அவனோடு சேர்ந்தனர். ஆனால், தாவீதும் அவனது ஆட்களும் உண்மையில் பெலிஸ்தர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்யவில்லை. பெலிஸ்திய தலைவர்கள் தாவீது தமக்கு உதவுவதாகப் பேசிக்கொண்டனர். ஆனால், பிறகு அவனை அனுப்பிவிட முடிவு செய்தனர். இராஜாக்கள், “தாவீது தனது எஜமான் சவுலோடு போய் சேர்ந்துகொண்டால் பிறகு நமது தலைகள் அறுபடும்” என்றனர்.
