ஆகையால் கர்த்தருக்கு இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபமூண்டு, அவர்களைச் சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேலின் கையிலும் ஆசகேலின் குமாரனாகிய பெனாதாத்தின் கையிலும் அந்நாட்களிலெல்லாம் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

அதற்கு அந்த வேலைக்காரன்: அந்த இடத்துப் பெண் என்னுடன் இந்தத் தேசத்திற்கு வர விருப்பமில்லாமல் இருந்தால், நீர் விட்டுவந்த தேசத்திற்கு உம்முடைய மகனை மறுபடியும் அழைத்துப்போகவேண்டுமோ? என்று கேட்டான்.

நான் உங்களுக்கு விரோதமாக என் முகத்தைத் திருப்புவேன்; உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படுவீர்கள்; உங்கள் பகைஞர் உங்களை ஆளுவார்கள்; துரத்துவார் இல்லாதிருந்தும் ஓடுவீர்கள்.

உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் பட்சிக்கிற அக்கினி, அவர் எரிச்சலுள்ள தேவன்.

உன் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக நீ முறிய அடிக்கப்படும்படி கர்த்தர் செய்வார்; ஒரு வழியாய் அவர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்படுவாய், ஏழு வழியாய் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடிப்போவாய்; நீ பூமியிலுள்ள எல்லா ராஜ்யங்களிலும் சிதறுண்டுபோவாய்.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின் மேல் கோபமூண்டு, அவர்களைப் பெலிஸ்தர் கையிலும், அம்மோன் புத்திரர் கையிலும் விற்றுப்போட்டார்.

அப்பொழுது ஆசகேல்: என் ஆண்டவன் அழுகிறது என்ன என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவன்: நீ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குச் செய்யும் தீங்கை நான் அறிந்திருக்கிறபடியினால் அழுகிறேன்; நீ அவர்கள் கோட்டைகளை அக்கினிக்கு இரையாக்கி, அவர்கள் வாலிபரைப் பட்டயத்தால் கொன்று, அவர்கள் குழந்தைகளைத் தரையோடே மோதி, அவர்கள் கர்ப்பவதிகளைக் கீறிப்போடுவாய் என்றான்.

யோவாகாசின் நாட்களிலெல்லாம் சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆசகேல் இஸ்ரவேலை ஒடுக்கினான்.

என் கோபத்தின் கோலாகிய அசீரியனுக்கு ஐயோ! அவன் கையிலிருக்கிறது என் சினத்தின் தண்டாயுதம்.

நம்முடைய தேவன் பட்சிக்கிற அக்கினியாயிருக்கிறாரே.
