மொர்தெகாய் தனக்குக் குமாரத்தியாய் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டவளும், அவன் சிறிய தகப்பனாகிய அபியாயேலின் குமாரத்தியுமாகிய எஸ்தர் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கிறதற்கு முறைவந்தபோது, அவள் ஸ்திரீகளைக் காவல்பண்ணுகிற ராஜாவின் பிரதானியாகிய யேகாய் நியமித்த காரியமேயல்லாமல் வேறொன்றும் கேட்கவில்லை; எஸ்தருக்குத் தன்னைக் காண்கிற எல்லார் கண்களிலும் தயை கிடைத்தது.

அவன் தன் சிறிய தகப்பன் குமாரத்தியாகிய எஸ்தர் என்னும் அத்சாளை வளர்த்தான்; அவளுக்குத் தாய்தகப்பனில்லை; அந்தப் பெண் ரூபவதியும் சௌந்தரியமுடையவளுமாயிருந்தாள்; அவள் தகப்பனும் அவள் தாயும் மரணமடைந்தபோது, மொர்தெகாய் அவளைத் தன் குமாரத்தியாக எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.
