এক দিন তিনি যখন তাঁর ইষ্টদেবতা নিষ্রোকের মন্দিরে পূজা করছিলেন, সে সময় তাঁর দুই পুত্র অদ্রম্মেলক ও শরেত্সর তাঁকে তরবারির আঘাতে হত্যা করে অরারট দেশে পালিয়ে গেলে, তাঁর আরেক পুত্র এসর-হদ্দোন তাঁর জায়গায় নতুন রাজা হলেন|

যিহূদা-রাজা হিষ্কিয় সমীপেষু, আপনাদের ঈশ্বরের দ্বারা প্রতারিত হয়ে যদি আস্থা রাখেন, “অশূর-রাজ জেরুশালেমকে পদানত করতে পারবেন না!” তাহলে ভুল করবেন|

হিষ্কিয়র কথা মেনো না এবং প্রভুর ওপরেও ভরসা করো না| হিষ্কিয় বলে, ‘প্রভু আমাদের রক্ষা করবেন! অশূররাজ এই শহর দখল করতে পারবে না!’

প্রভু, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বরের ওপর হিষ্কিয়র সম্পূর্ণ আস্থা ছিল| হিষ্কিয়র আগে বা পরে যিহূদার কোন রাজাই তাঁর মত ছিলেন না|
