ফরীশীরা শুনল য়ে সাধারণ লোক যীশুর বিষয়ে চুপি চুপি এই সব আলোচনা করছে৷ তখন প্রধান যাজকেরা ও ফরীশীরা যীশুকে ধরে আনবার জন্য মন্দিরের কয়েকজন পদাতিককে পাঠাল৷

এরপর প্রধান যাজক ও ফরীশীরা পরিষদের এক মহাসভা ডেকে সেখানে নিজেদের মধ্যে বলাবলি করল, ‘আমরা এখন কি করব? এই লোকটা তো অনেক অলৌকিক চিহ্নকার্য় করছে৷

তখন ফরীশীরা পরস্পর বলাবলি করতে লাগল, ‘তোমরা দেখলে, আমাদের সব চেষ্টাই ব্যর্থ হল৷ দেখ, আজ সারা জগত্ তাঁরই পেছনে ছুটছে৷’

সে ফরীশীদের ও প্রধান যাজকদের কাছ থেকে একদল সৈনিক ও কিছু রক্ষী নিয়ে সেখানে এল৷ তাদের হাতে ছিল মশাল, লন্ঠন ও নানা অস্ত্র৷

তখন রক্ষীবাহিনীর প্রধান তার লোকদের নিয়ে সেখানে গেল ও প্রেরিতদের নিয়ে এল৷ তারা কোনরকম জোর করল না, কারণ তারা লোকদের ভয় করতে লাগল, পাছে তারা পাথর ছুঁড়ে তাদের মেরে ফেলে৷
