Acts 22:24
তখন সেই সেনাপতি পৌলকে দুর্গের মধ্যে নিয়ে য়েতে হুকুম দিয়ে বললেন, ‘একে চাবুক মেরে দেখ এ কি বলে, লোকেরা কেন এর বিরুদ্ধে এমনি করে চিত্কার করছে!’

লোকেরা পৌলকে হত্যা করার চেষ্টা করছিল৷ রোমান সেনাপতির কাছে খবর পৌঁছলো য়ে সারা জেরুশালেম শহরে প্রচণ্ড গোলমাল শুরু হয়েছে৷

সৈনিকরা যখন পৌলকে চাবুক মারার জন্য বাঁধছে তখন য়ে সেনাপতি সেখানে দাঁড়িয়েছিল পৌল তাকে বললেন, ‘একজন রোমান নাগরিকের বিচার না করে তার কোন দোষ না পেলেও তাকে চাবুক মারা কি আইনসম্মত কাজ হবে?’

পৌল নামের লৌকটিকে ইহুদীরা ধরে হত্যা করতে উদ্য়ত হয়েছিল; কিন্তু আমি যখন জানতে পারলাম য়ে সে রোমান নাগরিক তখন আমার সৈন্যদের নিয়ে এসে তাকে উদ্ধার করে আনলাম৷
