ঝোল রান্না হলে পাত্রে কিছুটা ঢেলে সবাইকে খেতে দেওয়া হল| কিন্তু সকলে সেই ঝোল মুখে দিয়েই চিত্কার করে ইলীশায়কে বললো, “ঈশ্বরের লোক পাত্রে বিষ মেশানো আছে!” ঝোলের স্বাদ বিষাক্ত হওয়ায় ওরা কেউই তা খেতে পারলো না|”

| of the pottage, | מֵֽהַנָּזִ֜יד | mēhannāzîd | may-ha-na-ZEED |
| they that | וְהֵ֣מָּה | wĕhēmmâ | veh-HAY-ma |
| cried out, | צָעָ֗קוּ | ṣāʿāqû | tsa-AH-koo |
| and said, | וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ | wayyōʾmĕrû | va-yoh-meh-ROO |
| man thou O | מָ֤וֶת | māwet | MA-vet |
| of God, | בַּסִּיר֙ | bassîr | ba-SEER |
| death is there | אִ֣ישׁ | ʾîš | eesh |
| in the pot. | הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים | hāʾĕlōhîm | ha-ay-loh-HEEM |
| could they And | וְלֹ֥א | wĕlōʾ | veh-LOH |
| not | יָֽכְל֖וּ | yākĕlû | ya-heh-LOO |
| eat | לֶֽאֱכֹֽל׃ | leʾĕkōl | LEH-ay-HOLE |
