যিহোশূয় যখন এই সংবাদ পেলন তখন মনের দুঃখে তিনি তাঁর পোশাক ছিঁড়ে ফেললেন| পবিত্র সিন্দুকের সামনে তিনি মাটিতে মাথা নুইযে দিলেন| সন্ধ্যা পর্য়ন্ত এভাবেই তিনি কাটালেন| ইস্রায়েলের নেতারাও এভাবে মাথা হেঁট করে বসে রইল| দুঃখ বেদনা প্রকাশ করতে তারাও নিজেদের মাথায় ধুলো ছুঁড়লো|

his face פָּנָ֨יו pānîm pa-NEEM
to the earth אַ֜רְצָה ʾereṣ eh-RETS
before לִפְנֵ֨י pānîm pa-NEEM
the ark אֲר֤וֹן ʾārôn ah-RONE
of the Lord יְהוָה֙ yĕhōwâ yeh-hoh-VA
until עַד ʿad ad
the eventide, הָעֶ֔רֶב ʿereb eh-REV
he ה֖וּא hûʾ hoo
and the elders וְזִקְנֵ֣י zāqēn za-KANE
of Israel, יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל yiśrāʾēl yees-ra-ALE
and put וַיַּֽעֲל֥וּ ʿālâ ah-LA
dust עָפָ֖ר ʿāpār ah-FAHR
upon עַל ʿal al
their heads. רֹאשָֽׁם׃ rōš rohsh
