1 Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:ভোর হলে প্রধান যাজকরা ও সমাজপতিরা সবাইমিলেযীশুকে হত্যা করার চক্রান্ত করল৷

2 and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.তারা তাঁকে বেঁধে রোমীয় রাজ্যপাল পীলাতের কাছে হাজির করল৷

3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, felt remorse, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,যীশুকে শত্রুদের হাতে য়ে ধরিয়ে দিয়েছিল, সেই যিহূদা যখন দেখল যীশুকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করা হয়েছে তখন তার মনে খুব ক্ষোভ হল৷ সে তখন যাজকদের ও সমাজপতিদের কাছে গিয়ে সেই ত্রিশটা রূপোর টাকা ফিরিয়ে দিয়ে বলল,

4 saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it."‘একজন নিরপরাধ লোককে হত্যা করার জন্য আপনাদের হাতে তুলে দিয়ে তাঁর প্রতি আমি বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছি, আমি মহাপাপ করেছি৷ইহুদী নেতারা বলল, ‘তাতে আমাদের কি? তুমি বোঝগে যাও৷’

5 He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.তখন যিহূদা সেই টাকা মন্দিরের মধ্যে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দিল, পরে বাইরে গিয়ে গলায় দড়ি দিয়ে মরল৷

6 The chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, "It's not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood."প্রধান যাজকরা সেইরূপোর টাকাগুলি কুড়িয়ে নিয়ে বললেন, ‘মন্দিরের তহবিলে এই টাকা জমা করা আমাদের বিধি-ব্যবস্থা বিরুদ্ধ কাজ, কারণ এটা খুনের টাকা৷’

7 They took counsel, and bought the potter's field with them, to bury strangers in.তাই তারা পরামর্শ করে ঐ টাকায় কুমোরদের একটা জমি কিনলেন৷ য়েন জেরুশালেমে য়েসব বিদেশী মারা যাবে, তাদের সেখানে কবর দেওযা য়েতে পারে৷

8 Therefore that field was called "The Field of Blood" to this day.সেই জন্য ঐ কবরখানাকে আজও লোকে ‘রক্তক্ষেত্র’ বলে৷

9 Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "They took the thirty pieces of silver, The price of him upon whom a price had been set, Whom some of the children of Israel priced,এর ফলে ভাববাদী যিরমিয়র ভাববাণী পূর্ণ হল:‘তারা সেইত্রিশটা রূপোর টাকা নিল, এটাই হল তাঁর মূল্য, ইস্রায়েলের জনগণই তাঁর মূল্য নির্ধারণ করেছিল৷

10 And they gave them for the potter's field, As the Lord commanded me."আর প্রভুর নির্দেশ অনুসারেই সেই টাকা দিয়ে তারা কুমোরের জমি কিনেছিল৷’৷

11 Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus said to him, "So you say."এদিকে যীশুকে রাজ্যপালের সামনে হাজির করা হল; রাজ্যপাল যীশুকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, ‘তুমি কি ইহুদীদের রাজা?’যীশু বললেন, ‘হ্যাঁ, আপনি য়েমন বললেন৷’

12 When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.কিন্তু প্রধান যাজকরা ও ইহুদী নেতারা সমানে যখন তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে দোষ দিচ্ছিল, তখন তিনি তার একটারও জবাব দিলেন না৷

13 Then Pilate said to him, "Don't you hear how many things they testify against you?"তখন পীলাত তাঁকে বললেন, ‘ওরা, তোমার বিরুদ্ধে কত দোষ দিচ্ছে, তুমি কি শুনতে পাচ্ছ না?’

14 He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.কিন্তু যীশু তাঁকে কোন জবাব দিলেন না, এমন কি তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে একটা অভিযোগেরও উত্তর দিলেন না, এতে পীলাত আশ্চর্য হয়ে গেলেন৷

15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner, whom they desired.রাজ্যপালের রীতি অনুসারে প্রত্যেক নিস্তারপর্বের সময় জনসাধারণের ইচ্ছানুযাযী য়ে কোন কয়েদীকে তিনি মুক্ত করে দিতেন৷

16 They had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.সেই সময় বারাব্বানামে এক কুখ্যাত আসামী কারাগারে ছিল৷

17 When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?"তাই লোকরা সেখানে একসঙ্গে জড়ো হলে পীলাত তাদের জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, ‘তোমাদের জন্য আমি কাকে ছেড়ে দেব? তোমরা কি চাও, বারাব্বাকে বা যীশু, যাকে খ্রীষ্ট বলে তাকে?’

18 For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.কারণ পীলাত জানতেন, তারা যীশুর ওপর ঈর্ষাপরায়ণ হয়ে তাঁকে ধরিয়ে দিয়েছিল৷

19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."পীলাত যখন বিচার আসনে বসে আছেন, সেই সময় তাঁর স্ত্রী তাঁকে বলে পাঠালেন, ‘ঐ নির্দোষ লোকটির প্রতি তুমি কিছু করো না, কারণ রাত্রে স্বপ্নে আমি তাঁর বিষয়ে যা দেখেছি তাতে আজ বড়ই উদ্বেগে কাটছে৷’

20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.কিন্তু প্রধান যাজকরা ও ইহুদী নেতারা জনতাকে প্ররোচনা দিতে লাগল, য়েন তারা বারাব্বাকে ছেড়ে দিতে ও যীশুকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেওযার কথা বলে৷

21 But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They said, "Barabbas!"তখন রাজ্যপাল তাদের জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, ‘এই দুজনের মধ্যে তোমরা কাকে চাও য়ে আমি তোমাদের জন্য ছেড়ে দিই?’ তারা বলল, ‘বারাব্বাকে!’

22 Pilate said to them, "What then shall I do to Jesus, who is called Christ?" They all said to him, "Let him be crucified!"পীলাত তখন তাদের বললেন, ‘তাহলে যীশু যাকে মশীহ বলে তাকে নিয়ে কি করব?’তারা সবাইবলল, ‘ওকে ক্রুশে দেওযা হোক৷’

23 But the governor said, "Why? What evil has he done?" But they cried out exceedingly, saying, "Let him be crucified!"পীলাত বললেন, ‘কেন? ও কি অন্যায় করেছে?’ কিন্তু তারা তখন আরো জোরে চিত্‌কার করতে লাগল, ‘ওকে ক্রুশে দাও, ক্রুশে দাও!’

24 So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. You see to it."পীলাত যখন দেখলেন য়ে তাঁর চেষ্টার কোন ফল হল না, বরং আরো গোলমাল হতে লাগল, তখন তিনি জল নিয়ে লোকদের সামনে হাত ধুয়ে বললেন, ‘এই লোকের রক্তপাতের জন্য আমি দাযী নই৷’ এটা তোমাদেরইদায়৷

25 All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children!"এই কথার জবাবে লোকেরা সমস্বরে বলল, ‘আমরা ও আমাদের সন্তানরা ওব রক্তের জন্য দাযী থাকব৷’

26 Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.তখন পীলাত তাদের জন্য বারাব্বাকে ছেড়ে দিলেন; কিন্তু যীশুকে চাবুক মেরে ক্রুশে দেবার জন্য সঁপে দিলেন৷

27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.এরপর রাজ্যপালের সেনারা যীশুকে রাজভবনের সভাগৃহে নিয়ে গিয়ে সেখানে সমস্ত সেনাদলকে তাঁর চারধারে জড়ো করল৷

28 They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.তারা যীশুর পোশাক খুলে নিল, আর তাঁকে একটা লাল রঙের পোশাক পরাল৷

29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"পরে কাঁটা লতা দিয়ে একটা মুকুট তৈরী করে তা তাঁর মাথায় চেপে বসিয়ে দিল, আর তাঁর ডান হাতে একটা লাঠি দিল৷ পরে তাঁর সামনে হাঁটু গেড়ে তাঁকে ঠাট্টা করে বলল, ‘ইহুদীদের রাজা, দীর্ঘজীবি হোন্!’

30 They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.তারা তাঁর মুখে থুথু দিল ও তাঁর লাঠিটি নিয়ে তাঁর মাথায় মারতে লাগল৷

31 When they had mocked him, they took the robe off of him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.এইভাবে তাঁকে বিদ্রূপ করবার পর তারা সেইপোশাকটি তাঁর গা থেকে খুলে নিয়ে তাঁর নিজের পোশাক আবার পরিয়ে দিল, তারপর তাঁকে ক্রুশে দেবার জন্য নিয়ে চলল৷

32 As they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his cross.সৈন্যরা যখন যীশুকে নিয়ে নগরের বাইরে যাচ্ছে, তখন পথে শিমোন নামে কুরীশীয় অঞ্চলের একজন লোককে দেখতে পেয়ে যীশুর ক্রুশ বইবার জন্য তাকে তারা জোর করে বাধ্য করল৷

33 They came to a place called "Golgotha," that is to say, "The place of a skull."পরে তারা ‘গলগথা’ নামে এক জায়গায় এসে পৌঁছল৷ ‘গলগথা’ শব্দটির অর্থ ‘মাথার খুলিস্থান৷’

34 They gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.সেখানে পৌঁছে তারা যীশুকে মাদক দ্রব্য মেশানো তিক্ত দ্রাক্ষারস পান করতে দিল; কিন্তু তিনি তা সামান্য আস্বাদ করে আর খেতে চাইলেন না৷

35 When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,{TR adds "that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: 'They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots;'" [see Psalm 22:18 and John 19:24]}তারা তাঁকে ক্রুশে দিয়ে তাঁর জামা কাপড় খুলে নিয়ে ঘুঁটি চেলে সেগুলো নিজেদের মধ্যে ভাগ করে নিল৷

36 and they sat and watched him there.আর সেখানে বসে যীশুকে পাহারা দিতে লাগল৷

37 They set up over his head the accusation against him written, "THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS."তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে আনা অভিযোগের এই লিপি ফলকটি তাঁর মাথার উপরে ক্রুশে লাগিয়ে দিল, ‘এ যীশু, ইহুদীদের রাজা৷’

38 Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.তারা দুজন দস্যুকেও যীশুর সঙ্গে ক্রুশে দিল, একজনকে তাঁর ডানদিকে ও অন্যজনকে তাঁর বাঁ দিকে৷

39 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,সেই সময় ঐ রাস্তা দিয়ে য়ে সব লোক যাতাযাত করছিল, তারা তাদের মাথা নেড়ে তাঁকে ঠাট্টা করে বলল,

40 and saying, "You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!"‘তুমি না মন্দির ভেঙ্গে আবার তা তিন দিনের মধ্যে তৈরী করতে পার! তাহলে এখন নিজেকে রক্ষা কর৷ তুমি যদি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র হও তবে ক্রুশ থেকে নেমে এস৷’

41 Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, the Pharisees,{TR omits "the Pharisees"} and the elders, said,সেইভাবেই প্রধান যাজকরা, ব্যবস্থার শিক্ষকরা ও ইহুদী নেতারা বিদ্রূপ করে তাঁকে বলতে লাগলেন,

42 "He saved others, but he can't save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.‘এ লোক তো অপরকে রক্ষা করত, কিন্তু এ নিজেকে বাঁচাতে পারে না! ও তো ইস্রায়েলের রাজা, তাহলে এখন ও ক্রুশ থেকে নেমে আসুক, তাহলে আমরা ওর ওপর বিশ্বাস করব৷

43 He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"ঐ লোকটি ঈশ্বরের ওপর বিশ্বাস করে৷ যদি তিনি চান, তবে ওকে এখনই রক্ষা করুন, কারণ ও তো বলেছে, ‘আমি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র৷'"

44 The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.তাঁর সঙ্গে য়ে দুজন দস্যুকে ক্রুশে দেওযা হয়েছিল, তারাও সেইভাবেই তাঁকে বিদ্রূপ করতে লাগল৷

45 Now from the sixth hour{noon} there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.{3:00 P. M.}সেই দিন দুপুর বারোটা থেকে বেলা তিনটে পর্যন্ত সমস্ত দেশ অন্ধকারে ঢেকে রইল৷

46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lima{TR reads "lama" instead of "lima"} sabachthani?" That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"প্রায় তিনটের সময় যীশু খুব জোরে বলে উঠলেন, ‘এলি, এলি লামা শবক্তানী?’ যার অর্থ, ‘ঈশ্বর আমার, ঈশ্বর আমার, তুমি কেন আমায় ত্যাগ করেছ?’

47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This man is calling Elijah."যাঁরা সেখানে দাঁড়িয়েছিল, তাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন একথা শুনে বলতে লাগল, ‘ও এলীয়কে ডাকছে৷’

48 Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.তাদের মধ্যে একজন তখনই দৌড়ে গিয়ে একটা স্পঞ্জ কতকটা সিরকায় ডুবিয়ে দিয়ে একটা নলের মাথায় সেটা লাগিয়ে তা যীশুর মুখে তুলে ধরে তাকে খেতে দিল৷

49 The rest said, "Let him be. Let's see whether Elijah comes to save him."কিন্তু অন্যরা বলতে লাগল, ‘ছেড়ে দাও, দেখি এলীয় ওকে রক্ষা করতে আসেন কি না?’

50 Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.পরে যীশু আর একবার খুব জোরে চিত্‌কার করে প্রাণ ত্যাগ করলেন৷

51 Behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মন্দিরের মধ্যেকার সেই ভারী পর্দাটা ওপর থেকে নীচ পর্যন্ত চিরে দুভাগ হয়ে গেল, পৃথিবী কেঁপে উঠল, বড় বড় পাথরের চাঁই ফেটে গেল,

52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;সমাধিগুহাগুলি খুলে গেল, আর মারা গিয়েছিলেন এমন অনেক ঈশ্বরের লোকের দেহ পুনরুত্থিত হল৷

53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.যীশুর পুনরুত্থানের পর এরা কবর ছেড়ে পবিত্র নগর জেরুশালেমে গিয়ে বহুলোককে দেখা দিয়েছিলেন৷

54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God."ক্রুশের পাশে শতপতি ও তার সঙ্গে যাঁরা যীশুকে পাহারা দিচ্ছিল, তারা ভূমিকম্প ও অন্য সব ঘটনা দেখে ভীষণ ভয় পেয়ে বলল, ‘সত্যইইনি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র ছিলেন৷’

55 Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him.সেখানে বহু স্ত্রীলোক ছিলেন, যাঁরা দূরে দাঁড়িয়ে সব কিছু দেখছিলেন৷ এই মহিলারা গালীল থেকে যীশুর দেখাশোনার জন্য তাঁর সঙ্গে এসেছিলেন৷

56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.তাঁদের মধ্যে ছিলেন মগ্দলীনী মরিয়ম, যাকোব ও য়োষেফের মা মরিয়ম আর যাকোব ও য়োহনেরমা৷

57 When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus' disciple came.সন্ধ্যা নেমে আসছে এমন সময় আরিমাথিযার য়োষেফ নামে এক ধনী ব্যক্তি জেরুশালেমে এলেন; তিনিও যীশুর একজন অনুগামী ছিলেন৷

58 This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.পীলাতের কাছে গিয়ে য়োষেফ যীশুর দেহটা চাইলেন৷ তখন পীলাত তাকে তা দিতে হুকুম করলেন৷

59 Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,য়োষেফ দেহটি নিয়ে পরিষ্কার একটা কাপড়ে জড়ালেন৷

60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.তারপর সেই দেহটা নিয়ে তিনি নিজের জন্য পাহাড়ের গায়ে য়ে নতুন সমাধিগুহা কেটে রেখেছিলেন, তাতে রাখলেন৷ পরে সেই সমাধির মুখ বন্ধ করতে বড় একটা পাথর গড়িয়ে নিয়ে গিয়ে তা বন্ধ করে দিয়ে চলে গেলেন৷

61 Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.মরিয়ম মগ্দলীনী ও সেই অন্য মরিয়ম কবরের সামনে বসে রইলেন৷

62 Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate,পরের দিন, যখন শুক্রবার শেষ হল, অর্থাত্ প্রস্তুতি পর্বের পরের দিন, প্রধান যাজকরা ও ফরীশীরা গিয়ে পীলাতের সঙ্গে দেখা করল৷

63 saying, "Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: 'After three days I will rise again.'তারা বলল, ‘হুজুর, আমাদের মনে পড়ছে সেই প্রতারক তাঁর জীবনকালে বলেছিল, ‘আমি তিনদিন পরে মৃত্যু থেকে পুনরুত্থিত হব৷’

64 Command therefore that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples come at night and steal him away, and tell the people, 'He is risen from the dead;' and the last deception will be worse than the first."তাই আপনি হুকুম দিন য়েন তিন দিন কবরটা পাহারা দেওযা হয়, তা না হলে ওর শিষ্যরা হয়তো এসে দেহটা চুরি করে নিয়ে গিয়ে বলবে, তিনি মৃত্যু থেকে পুনরুত্থিত হয়েছেন; তাহলে প্রথমটার চেয়ে শেষ ছলনাটা আরো খারাপ হবে৷’

65 Pilate said to them, "You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you can."পীলাত তাদের বললেন, ‘তোমাদের কাছে পাহারা দেবার লোক আছে, তোমরা গিয়ে যত ভালভাবে পারো পাহারা দেবার ব্যবস্থা কর৷’

66 So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone.তখন তারা সকলে গিয়ে কবরের মুখের সেই পাথররাশির উপর সীলমোহর করল ও সেখানে একদল প্রহরী মোতায়েন করে সমাধিটি সুরক্ষিত রাখার ব্যবস্থা করল৷
