1 சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத் தன் சேனையையெல்லாம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போய், சமாரியாவை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டு அதின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்; அவனோடேகூட முப்பத்திரண்டு ராஜாக்கள் இருந்ததுமல்லாமல், குதிரைகளும் இரதங்களும் இருந்தது. And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

2 அவன் நகரத்திற்குள் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாபிடத்தில் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,

3 உன்னுடைய வெள்ளியும் உன்னுடைய பொன்னும் என்னுடையது; உன்னுடைய ஸ்திரீகளும் உன்னுடைய குமாரருக்குள் சமர்த்தராயிருக்கிறவர்களும் என்னுடையவர்கள் என்று பெனாதாத் சொல்லுகிறான் என்று அவனுக்குச் சொல்லச் சொன்னான். Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

4 இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அதற்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, உம்முடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே, நானும் எனக்கு உண்டான யாவும் உம்முடையவைகள்தான் என்று சொல்லியனுப்பினான். And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

5 அந்த ஸ்தானாபதிகள் திரும்பவும் வந்து: பெனாதாத் சொல்லுகிறது என்னவென்றால் உன் வெள்ளியையும், உன் பொன்னையும், உன் ஸ்திரீகளையும், உன் குமாரர்களையும் நீ எனக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று உமக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினேனே. And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

6 ஆனாலும் நாளை இந்நேரத்தில் என் ஊழியக்காரரை உன்னிடத்தில் அனுப்புவேன்; அவர்கள் உன் வீட்டையும் உன் ஊழியக்காரரοன் வீடுகளையும் சோதித்து, உன் கàύணுக்குப͠பிРοயமானவைΕள் எல்லாவற்றையும் தங்கள் கைகளில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோவார்கள் என்றார் என்று சொன்னார்கள். Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

7 அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா, தேசத்தின் மூப்பரையெல்லாம் அழைப்பித்து: இவன் பொல்லாப்புத் தேடுகிற விதத்தைக் கவனித்துப்பாருங்கள்; என் ஸ்திரீகளையும், என் குமாரர்களையும், என் வெள்ளியையும், என் பொன்னையும் கேட்க, இவன் என்னிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பினபோது, நான் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன் என்று இவனுக்கு மறுக்கவில்லையே என்றான். Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

8 அப்பொழுது சகல மூப்பரும் சகல ஜனங்களும் அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீர் அவனுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கவும், அவனுக்குச் சம்மதிக்கவும் வேண்டாம் என்றார்கள். And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.

9 அதினால் அவன் பெனாதாத்தின் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுக்குச் சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால், நீர் முதல் விசை உமது அடியானுக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பின யாவும் செய்வேன்; இந்தக் காரியத்தையோ நான் செய்யக் கூடாது என்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்; ஸ்தானாபதிகள் போய், இந்த மறுமொழியை அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள். Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

10 அப்பொழுது பெனாதாத் அவனிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி: எனக்குப் பின் செல்லுகிற ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் கைக்கு ஒரு பிடியாவது வாரிக்கொள்ள சமாரியாவின் தூள் போதுமானதாயிருந்தால், தேவர்கள் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான். And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

11 அதற்கு இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா பிரதியுத்தரமாக: ஆயுதம் தரித்திருக்கிறவன், ஆயுதம் உரிந்து போடுகிறவனைப்போலப் பெருமைபாராட்டலாகாது என்று அவனுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான். And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

12 பெனாதாத்தும், மற்ற ராஜாக்களும் கூடாரங்களிலே குடித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், இந்த வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டு, தன் ஊழியக்காரரை நோக்கி: ஆயத்தம் பண்ணுங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே நகரத்தின்மேல் சண்டைசெய்ய ஆயத்தம் பண்ணினார்கள். And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

13 அப்பொழுது ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாபிடத்தில் வந்து: அந்த ஏராளமான ஜனக்கூட்டத்தையெல்லாம் கண்டாயா? இதோ, நானே கர்த்தர் என்று நீ அறியும்படி இன்றைக்கு அதை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான். And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

14 யாரைக்கொண்டு என்று ஆகாப் கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவன்: மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் சேவகரைக் கொண்டு என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்; பின்பு அவன், யுத்தத்தை யார் துவக்கவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டதற்கு; அவன், நீர்தான் என்றான். And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.

15 அவன் மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் சேவகரை இலக்கம் பார்த்தான், அவர்கள் இருநூற்று முப்பத்திரண்டுபேர்; அவர்களுக்குப்பின்பு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சகல ஜனத்தின் இலக்கமும் பார்த்து ஏழாயிரம்பேர் என்று கண்டான். Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

16 அவர்கள் மத்தியானவேளையிலே வெளியே புறப்பட்டார்கள்; பெனாதாத்தும், அவனுக்கு உதவியாக வந்த முப்பத்திரண்டு ராஜாக்களாகிய மற்ற ராஜாக்களும், கூடாரங்களில் குடித்து வெறிகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

17 மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் சேவகர் முன்தண்டாகப் புறப்படுகிறபோது, பெனாதாத் அனுப்பின மனுஷர்: சமாரியாவிலிருந்து மனுஷர் புறப்பட்டு வருகிறார்கள் என்று அவனுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள். And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

18 அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் சமாதானத்திற்காகப் புறப்பட்டுவந்தாலும் அவர்களை உயிரோடே பிடியுங்கள்; அவர்கள் யுத்தத்திற்காகப் புறப்பட்டுவந்தாலும் அவர்களை உயிரோடே பிடியுங்கள் என்றான். And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

19 மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் சேவகரான அவர்களும், அவர்கள் பின்னே வருகிற இராணுவமும், நகரத்திலிருந்து வெளியே வந்தபோது, So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.

20 அவர்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்படுகிறவர்களை வெட்டினார்கள்; சீரியர் முறிந்தோடிப்போனார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலர் அவர்களைத் துரத்தினார்கள்; சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத், குதிரையின் மேல் ஏறிச் சில குதிரை வீரரோடுங்கூடத் தப்பியோடிப்போனான். And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

21 இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா புறப்பட்டு, குதிரைகளையும் இரதங்களையும் முறிய அடித்து, சீரியரில் மகா சங்காரம் உண்டாக வெட்டினான். And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

22 பின்பு அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: நீர் போய் உம்மைப் பலப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு, நீர் செய்யத்தக்கது இன்னதென்று கவனித்துப்பாரும்; மறுவருஷத்திலே சீரியாவின் ராஜா உமக்கு விரோதமாக வருவான் என்றான். And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

23 சீரியாவின் ராஜாவுடைய ஊழியக்காரர் அவனைப் பார்த்து: அவர்களுடைய தேவர்கள் மலைத்தேவர்கள், அதினால் அவர்கள் நம்மை மேற்கொண்டார்கள்; நாம் அவர்களோடே சமபூமியிலே யுத்தம் பண்ணினால் நல்லது; அப்பொழுது அவர்களை மேற்கொள்வது நிச்சயம். And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

24 அதற்காக நீர் செய்யவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால், இந்த ராஜாக்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரையும் தங்கள் ஸ்தலத்திலிருந்து மாற்றி, அவர்களுக்குப் பதிலாகச் சேனாபதிகளை ஏற்படுத்தி; And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

25 நீர் மடியக்கொடுத்த சேனைக்குச் சரியாய்ச் சேனையையும், அந்தக் குதிரைகளுக்குச் சரியாய்க் குதிரைகளையும், இரதங்களுக்குச் சரியாய் இரதங்களையும் இலக்கம்பார்த்துக்கொள்ளும்; பிற்பாடு சமபூமியிலே நாம் அவர்களோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணி, நிச்சயமாய் அவர்களை மேற்கொள்வோம் என்றார்கள்; அவன் அவர்கள் சொற்கேட்டு அப்படியே செய்தான். And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

26 மறுவருஷத்திலே பெனாதாத் சீரியரை இலக்கம்பார்த்து, இஸ்ரவேலோடு யுத்தம்பண்ண ஆப்பெக்குக்கு வந்தான். And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

27 இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரும் இலக்கம் பார்க்கப்பட்டு, தேவையானதைச் சம்பாதித்துக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை எதிர்க்கப் புறப்பட்டு, அவர்களுக்கு எதிரே இரண்டு சிறிய வெள்ளாட்டுக் கிடைகளைப்போலப் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்; தேசம் சீரியரால் நிறைந்திருந்தது. And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

28 அப்பொழுது தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் ஒருவன் வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தர் பள்ளத்தாக்குகளின் தேவனாயிராமல், மலைகளின் தேவனாயிருக்கிறார் என்று சீரியர் சொல்லியிருக்கிறபடியினால், நான் இந்த ஏராளமான ஜனக்கூட்டத்தையெல்லாம் உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்; அதினால் நானே கர்த்தர் என்று நீங்கள் அறிவீர்கள் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான். And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

29 ஏழுநாளளவும் அவர்கள் முகமுகமாய்ப் பாளயமிறங்கியிருந்தார்கள்; ஏழாம் நாளில் யுத்தம் கலந்து, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் ஒரேநாளிலே சீரியரில் லட்சம் காலாட்களை மடங்கடித்தார்கள். And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30 மீதியானவர்கள் ஆப்பெக் பட்டணத்திற்குள் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அங்கே மீதியாயிருந்த இருபத்தேழாயிரம்பேரின் மேல் அலங்கம் இடிந்து விழுந்தது; பெனாதாத்தும் ஓடிப்போய் நகரத்திற்குள் புகுந்து, உள்ளறையிலே பதுங்கினான். But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

31 அப்பொழுது அவன் ஊழியக்காரர் அவனை நோக்கி: இதோ, இஸ்ரவேல் வம்சத்து ராஜாக்கள் தயவுள்ள ராஜாக்கள் என்று கேட்டிருக்கிறோம்; நாங்கள் இரட்டுகளை எங்கள் அரைகளில் கட்டி, கயிறுகளை எங்கள் தலைகளில் சுற்றிக் கொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் போவோம்; ஒருவேளை உம்மை உயிரோடே வைப்பார் என்று சொல்லி, And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.

32 இரட்டைத் தங்கள் அரைகளில் கட்டி, கயிறுகளைத் தங்கள் தலைகளில் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: என்னை உயிரோடேவையும் என்று உமது அடியானாகிய பெனாதாத் விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணுகிறான் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன், இன்னும் அவன் உயிரோடே இருக்கிறானா, அவன் என் சகோதரன் என்றான். So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

33 அந்த மனுஷர் நன்றாய்க் கவனித்து, அவன் வாயின் சொல்லை உடனே பிடித்து: உமது சகோதரனாகிய பெனாதாத் இருக்கிறான் என்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன்: நீங்கள் போய், அவனை அழைத்துக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்; பெனாதாத் அவனிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, அவனைத் தன் இரதத்தில் ஏற்றிக்கொண்டான். Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

34 அப்பொழுது பெனாதாத் இவனைப் பார்த்து: என் தகப்பன் உம்முடைய தகப்பனார் கையிலே பிடித்த பட்டணங்களைத் திரும்பக் கொடுத்துவிடுகிறேன்; என் தகப்பன் சமாரியாவிலே செய்ததுபோல, நீரும் தமஸ்குவிலே வீதிகளை உண்டாக்கிக்கொள்ளலாம் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன், இந்த உடன்படிக்கை செய்து நான் உம்மை அனுப்பிவிடுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனோடு உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணி அவனை அனுப்பிவிட்டான். And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

35 அப்பொழுது தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரரில் ஒருவன் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையின்படி தன் தோழனை நோக்கி: நீ என்னை அடி என்றான்; அந்த மனுஷன் அவனைப்பார்த்து அடிக்கமாட்டேன் என்றான். And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbor in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

36 அப்பொழுது அவன் இவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ கர்த்தருடைய சத்தத்திற்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமற்போனபடியால், இதோ, நீ என்னைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப் போனவுடனே ஒரு சிங்கம் உன்னைக் கொல்லும் என்றான்; அப்படியே இவன் அவனை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டவுடனே, ஒரு சிங்கம் இவனைக் கண்டு கொன்றுபோட்டது. Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

37 அதின்பின் அவன் வேறோருவனைக் கண்டு: என்னை அடி என்றான்; அந்த மனுஷன், அவனைக் காயமுண்டாக அடித்தான். Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.

38 அப்பொழுது அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி போய், தன் முகத்தின்மேல் சாம்பலைப்போட்டு, வேஷமாறினவனாய் வழியிலே ராஜாவுக்காகக் காத்திருந்தான். So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

39 ராஜா அவ்வழியாய் வருகிறபோது, இவன் ராஜாவைப்பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு: உமது அடியான் யுத்தத்தில் நின்றபோது, ஒருவன் விலகி, என்னிடத்தில் ஒருவனைக் கொண்டுவந்து, இந்த மனுஷனைப் பத்திரம்பண்ணு; இவன் தப்பிபோனால், உன் பிராணன் அவன் பிராணனுக்கு ஈடாயிருக்கும், அல்லது ஒரு தாலந்து வெள்ளியை நீ கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றான். And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

40 ஆனாலும் உமது அடியான் இங்கும் அங்கும் அலுவலாயிருக்கும்போது, அவன் போய்விட்டான் என்றான். இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ சொன்ன தீர்ப்பின்படியே ஆகும் என்றான். And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.

41 அப்பொழுது அவன் சீக்கிரமாய்த் தன் முகத்தின்மேலிருக்கும் சாம்பலைத் துடைத்துவிட்டதினால், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவன் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் ஒருவன் என்று அறிந்துகொண்டான். And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.

42 அப்பொழுது இவன் அவனை நோக்கி: சங்காரத்திற்கு நான் நியமித்த மனுஷனை உன் கையிலிருந்து தப்பிப்போகும்படி நீ விட்டபடியினால், உன் பிராணன் அவன் பிராணனுக்கு ஈடாகவும், உன் ஜனம் அவன் ஜனத்திற்கு ஈடாகவும் இருக்கும் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான். And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

43 அதினால் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா சலிப்பும் விசனமுமாய்த் தன் வீட்டிற்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டுச் சமாரியாவுக்கு வந்தான். And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.

1 Seeriyaavin raajaavaakiya penaathaath than senaiyaiyellaam koottikkonndu poy, samaariyaavai muttikkaipottu athinmael yuththampannnninaan; avanotaekooda muppaththiranndu raajaakkal irunthathumallaamal, kuthiraikalum irathangalum irunthathu. And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

2 Avan nakaraththirkul isravaelin raajaavaakiya aakaapidaththil sthaanaapathikalai anuppi: And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,

3 Unnutaiya velliyum unnutaiya ponnum ennutaiyathu; unnutaiya sthireekalum unnutaiya kumaararukkul samarththaraayirukkiravarkalum ennutaiyavarkal entu penaathaath sollukiraan entu avanukkuch sollach sonnaan. Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

4 Isravaelin raajaa atharkup pirathiyuththaramaaka: raajaavaakiya en aanndavanae, ummutaiya vaarththaiyinpatiyae, naanum enakku unndaana yaavum ummutaiyavaikalthaan entu solliyanuppinaan. And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

5 Antha sthaanaapathikal thirumpavum vanthu: penaathaath sollukirathu ennavental un velliyaiyum, un ponnaiyum, un sthireekalaiyum, un kumaararkalaiyum nee enakkuk kodukkavaenndum entu umakkuch solliyanuppinaenae. And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

6 Aanaalum naalai innaeraththil en ooliyakkaararai unnidaththil anuppuvaen; avarkal un veettaைyum un ooliyakkaararaοn veedukalaiyum sothiththu, un kaàύnukkupa͠piРοyamaanavaiΕl ellaavattaைyum thangal kaikalil eduththukkonndupovaarkal entar entu sonnaarkal. Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

7 Appoluthu isravaelin raajaa, thaesaththin moopparaiyellaam alaippiththu: ivan pollaapputh thaedukira vithaththaik kavaniththuppaarungal; en sthireekalaiyum, en kumaararkalaiyum, en velliyaiyum, en ponnaiyum kaetka, ivan ennidaththil aal anuppinapothu, naan kodukkamaattaேn entu ivanukku maraுkkavillaiyae entan. Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

8 Appoluthu sakala moopparum sakala janangalum avanaip paarththu: neer avanukkuch sevikodukkavum, avanukkuch sammathikkavum vaenndaam entarkal. And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.

9 Athinaal avan penaathaaththin sthaanaapathikalai Nnokki: neengal raajaavaakiya en aanndavanukkuch sollavaenntiyathu ennavental, neer muthal visai umathu atiyaanukkuch solliyanuppina yaavum seyvaen; inthak kaariyaththaiyo naan seyyak koodaathu entu sollungal entan; sthaanaapathikal poy, intha maraுmoliyai avanukkuch sonnaarkal. Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

10 Appoluthu penaathaath avanidaththil aal anuppi: enakkup pin sellukira janangal ellaarum kaikku oru pitiyaavathu vaarikkolla samaariyaavin thool pothumaanathaayirunthaal, thaevarkal atharkuch sariyaakavum atharku athikamaakavum enakkuch seyyakkadavarkal entu sollachchaொnnaan. And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

11 Atharku isravaelin raajaa pirathiyuththaramaaka: aayutham thariththirukkiravan, aayutham urinthu podukiravanaippolap perumaipaaraattalaakaathu entu avanukkuch sollungal entan. And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

12 Penaathaaththum, matta raajaakkalum koodaarangalilae kutiththukkonntirukkaiyil, intha vaarththaiyaik kaettu, than ooliyakkaararai Nnokki: aayaththam pannnungal entan; appatiyae nakaraththinmael sanntaiseyya aayaththam pannnninaarkal. And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

13 Appoluthu oru theerkkatharisi isravaelin raajaavaakiya aakaapidaththil vanthu: antha aeraalamaana janakkoottaththaiyellaam kanndaayaa? Itho, naanae Karththar entu nee ariyumpati intaikku athai un kaiyil oppukkoduppaen entu Karththar sollukiraar entan. And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

14 Yaaraikkonndu entu aakaap kaettan; atharku avan: maakaanangalutaiya athipathikalin sevakaraik konndu entu Karththar sollukiraar entan; pinpu avan, yuththaththai yaar thuvakkavaenndum entu kaettatharku; avan, neerthaan entan. And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.

15 Avan maakaanangalutaiya athipathikalin sevakarai ilakkam paarththaan, avarkal irunoottaு muppaththiranndupaer; avarkalukkuppinpu, Israel puththiraraakiya sakala janaththin ilakkamum paarththu aelaayirampaer entu kanndaan. Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

16 Avarkal maththiyaanavaelaiyilae veliyae purappattarkal; penaathaaththum, avanukku uthaviyaaka vantha muppaththiranndu raajaakkalaakiya matta raajaakkalum, koodaarangalil kutiththu verikonntirunthaarkal. And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

17 Maakaanangalutaiya athipathikalin sevakar munthanndaakap purappadukirapothu, penaathaath anuppina manushar: samaariyaavilirunthu manushar purappattu varukiraarkal entu avanukku ariviththaarkal. And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

18 Appoluthu avan: avarkal samaathaanaththirkaakap purappattuvanthaalum avarkalai uyirotae pitiyungal; avarkal yuththaththirkaakap purappattuvanthaalum avarkalai uyirotae pitiyungal entan. And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.

19 Maakaanangalutaiya athipathikalin sevakaraana avarkalum, avarkal pinnae varukira iraanuvamum, nakaraththilirunthu veliyae vanthapothu, So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.

20 Avarkal avaravar thangalukku ethirppadukiravarkalai vettinaarkal; seeriyar murinthotipponaarkal; isravaelar avarkalaith thuraththinaarkal; seeriyaavin raajaavaakiya penaathaath, kuthiraiyin mael aerich sila kuthirai veerarodungaூdath thappiyotipponaan. And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.

21 Isravaelin raajaa purappattu, kuthiraikalaiyum irathangalaiyum muriya atiththu, seeriyaril makaa sangaaram unndaaka vettinaan. And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

22 Pinpu anthath theerkkatharisi isravaelin raajaavinidaththil vanthu, avanai Nnokki: neer poy ummaip palappaduththikkonndu, neer seyyaththakkathu innathentu kavaniththuppaarum; maraுvarushaththilae seeriyaavin raajaa umakku virothamaaka varuvaan entan. And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

23 Seeriyaavin raajaavutaiya ooliyakkaarar avanaip paarththu: avarkalutaiya thaevarkal malaiththaevarkal, athinaal avarkal nammai maerkonndaarkal; naam avarkalotae samapoomiyilae yuththam pannnninaal nallathu; appoluthu avarkalai maerkolvathu nichchayam. And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

24 Atharkaaka neer seyyavaenntiyathu ennavental, intha raajaakkal ovvoruvaraiyum thangal sthalaththilirunthu maatti, avarkalukkup pathilaakach senaapathikalai aerpaduththi; And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

25 Neer matiyakkoduththa senaikkuch sariyaaych senaiyaiyum, anthak kuthiraikalukkuch sariyaayk kuthiraikalaiyum, irathangalukkuch sariyaay irathangalaiyum ilakkampaarththukkollum; pirpaadu samapoomiyilae naam avarkalodu yuththampannnni, nichchayamaay avarkalai maerkolvom entarkal; avan avarkal sorkaettu appatiyae seythaan. And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

26 Maraுvarushaththilae penaathaath seeriyarai ilakkampaarththu, isravaelodu yuththampannna aappekkukku vanthaan. And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

27 Israel puththirarum ilakkam paarkkappattu, thaevaiyaanathaich sampaathiththukkonndu, avarkalai ethirkkap purappattu, avarkalukku ethirae iranndu siriya vellaattuk kitaikalaippolap paalayamiranginaarkal; thaesam seeriyaraal nirainthirunthathu. And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

28 Appoluthu thaevanutaiya manushan oruvan vanthu, isravaelin raajaavaip paarththu: Karththar pallaththaakkukalin thaevanaayiraamal, malaikalin thaevanaayirukkiraar entu seeriyar solliyirukkirapatiyinaal, naan intha aeraalamaana janakkoottaththaiyellaam un kaiyil oppukkoduththaen; athinaal naanae Karththar entu neengal ariveerkal entu Karththar sollukiraar entan. And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

29 Aelunaalalavum avarkal mukamukamaayp paalayamirangiyirunthaarkal; aelaam naalil yuththam kalanthu, Israel puththirar oraenaalilae seeriyaril latcham kaalaatkalai madangatiththaarkal. And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30 Meethiyaanavarkal aappek pattanaththirkul otipponaarkal; angae meethiyaayiruntha irupaththaelaayirampaerin mael alangam itinthu vilunthathu; penaathaaththum otippoy nakaraththirkul pukunthu, ullaraiyilae pathunginaan. But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

31 Appoluthu avan ooliyakkaarar avanai Nnokki: itho, Israel vamsaththu raajaakkal thayavulla raajaakkal entu kaettirukkirom; naangal irattukalai engal araikalil katti, kayiraுkalai engal thalaikalil suttik konndu, isravaelin raajaavinidaththil povom; oruvaelai ummai uyirotae vaippaar entu solli, And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.

32 Irattaைth thangal araikalil katti, kayiraுkalaith thangal thalaikalil suttikkonndu, isravaelin raajaavinidaththil vanthu: ennai uyirotaevaiyum entu umathu atiyaanaakiya penaathaath vinnnappampannnukiraan entarkal. Atharku avan, innum avan uyirotae irukkiraanaa, avan en sakotharan entan. So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

33 Antha manushar nantayk kavaniththu, avan vaayin sollai udanae pitiththu: umathu sakotharanaakiya penaathaath irukkiraan entarkal; appoluthu avan: neengal poy, avanai alaiththuk konnduvaarungal entan; penaathaath avanidaththil vanthapothu, avanaith than irathaththil aettikkonndaan. Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

34 Appoluthu penaathaath ivanaip paarththu: en thakappan ummutaiya thakappanaar kaiyilae pitiththa pattanangalaith thirumpak koduththuvidukiraேn; en thakappan samaariyaavilae seythathupola, neerum thamaskuvilae veethikalai unndaakkikkollalaam entan. Atharku avan, intha udanpatikkai seythu naan ummai anuppividukiraேn entu solli, avanodu udanpatikkai pannnni avanai anuppivittan. And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

35 Appoluthu theerkkatharisikalin puththiraril oruvan karththarutaiya vaarththaiyinpati than tholanai Nnokki: nee ennai ati entan; antha manushan avanaippaarththu atikkamaattaேn entan. And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbor in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

36 Appoluthu avan ivanaip paarththu: nee karththarutaiya saththaththirkuk geelppatiyaamarponapatiyaal, itho, nee ennaivittup purappattup ponavudanae oru singam unnaik kollum entan; appatiyae ivan avanai vittup purappattavudanae, oru singam ivanaik kanndu kontupottathu. Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

37 Athinpin avan vaeroruvanaik kanndu: ennai ati entan; antha manushan, avanaik kaayamunndaaka atiththaan. Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.

38 Appoluthu anthath theerkkatharisi poy, than mukaththinmael saampalaippottu, vaeshamaarinavanaay valiyilae raajaavukkaakak kaaththirunthaan. So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

39 Raajaa avvaliyaay varukirapothu, ivan raajaavaippaarththuk kooppittu: umathu atiyaan yuththaththil nintapothu, oruvan vilaki, ennidaththil oruvanaik konnduvanthu, intha manushanaip paththirampannnu; ivan thappiponaal, un piraanan avan piraananukku eedaayirukkum, allathu oru thaalanthu velliyai nee kodukkavaenndum entan. And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

40 Aanaalum umathu atiyaan ingum angum aluvalaayirukkumpothu, avan poyvittan entan. Isravaelin raajaa avanaip paarththu: nee sonna theerppinpatiyae aakum entan. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.

41 Appoluthu avan seekkiramaayth than mukaththinmaelirukkum saampalaith thutaiththuvittathinaal, isravaelin raajaa avan theerkkatharisikalil oruvan entu arinthukonndaan. And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.

42 Appoluthu ivan avanai Nnokki: sangaaraththirku naan niyamiththa manushanai un kaiyilirunthu thappippokumpati nee vittapatiyinaal, un piraanan avan piraananukku eedaakavum, un janam avan janaththirku eedaakavum irukkum entu Karththar sollukiraar entan. And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

43 Athinaal isravaelin raajaa salippum visanamumaayth than veettirkup pokap purappattuch samaariyaavukku vanthaan. And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
