Judges 9 in Tamil

1 யெருபாகாலின் குமாரன் அபிமெலேக்கு சீகேமிலிருக்கிற தன் தாயின் சகோதரரிடத்திற்குப் போய், அவர்களையும் தன் தாயின் தகப்பனுடைய வம்சமான அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

2 யெருபாகாலின் குமாரர் எழுபதுபேராகிய எல்லாரும் உங்களை ஆளுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லதோ, ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் உங்களை ஆளுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லதோ என்று நீங்கள் சீகேமிலிருக்கிற சகல பெரிய மனுஷரின் காதுகளும் கேட்கப்பேசுங்கள்; நான் உங்கள் எலும்பும் உங்கள் மாம்சமுமானவன் என்று நினைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள் என்றான். Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

3 அப்படியே அவன் தாயின் சகோதரர் சீகேமிலிருக்கிற சகல பெரிய மனுஷரின் காதுகளும் கேட்க இந்த வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் அவனுக்காகப் பேசினார்கள்; அப்பொழுது: அவன் நம்முடைய சகோதரன் என்று அவர்கள் சொன்னதினால், அவர்கள் இருதயம் அபிமெலேக்கைப் பின்பற்றச் சாய்ந்தது. And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

4 அவர்கள் பாகால் பேரீத்தின் கோவிலிலிருந்து எழுபது வெள்ளிக்காசை எடுத்து அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அவைகளால் அபிமெலேக்கு வீணரும் போக்கிரிகளுமான மனுஷரைச் சேவகத்தில் வைத்தான்; அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள். And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

5 அவன் ஒப்ராவிலிருக்கிற தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டிற்குப் போய், யெருபாகாலின் குமாரராகிய தன் சகோதரர் எழுபது பேரையும் ஒரே கல்லின் மேல் கொலைசெய்தான்; ஆனாலும் யெருபாகாலின் இளைய குமாரனாகிய யோதாம் ஒளித்திருந்தபடியினால் அவன் தப்பினான். And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

6 பின்பு சீகேமிலிருக்கிற சகல பெரிய மனுஷரும், மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தாரனைவரும் கூடிக்கொண்டுபோய், சீகேமிலிருக்கிற உயர்ந்த கர்வாலிமரத்தண்டையிலே அபிமெலேக்கை ராஜாவாக்கினார்கள். And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

7 இது யோதாமுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, அவன் போய், கெரிசீம் மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறிநின்று, உரத்தசத்தமிட்டுக் கூப்பிட்டு, அவர்களை நோக்கி: சீகேமின் பெரிய மனுஷரே, தேவன் உங்களுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கும்படி நீங்கள் எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள். And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

8 விருட்சங்கள் தங்களுக்கு ஒரு ராஜாவை அபிஷேகம்பண்ணும்படி போய், ஒலிவமரத்தைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது. The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

9 அதற்கு ஒலிவமரம்: தேவர்களும் மனுஷரும் புகழுகிற என்னிலுள்ள என்கொழுமையை நான் விட்டு, மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது. But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

10 அப்பொழுது மரங்கள் அத்திமரத்தைப் பார்த்து: நீ வந்து, எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது. And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

11 அதற்கு அத்திமரம்: நான் என் மதுரத்தையும் என் நற்கனியையும் விட்டு, மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது. But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

12 அப்பொழுது மரங்கள் திராட்சச் செடியைப் பார்த்து: நீ வந்து, எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது. Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

13 அதற்குத் திராட்சச்செடி: தேவர்களையும் மனுஷரையும் மகிழப்பண்ணும் என் ரசத்தை நான் விட்டு மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது. And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

14 அப்பொழுது மரங்களெல்லாம் முட்செடியைப் பார்த்து: நீ வந்து, எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது. Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

15 அதற்கு முட்செடியானது மரங்களைப் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் என்னை உங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணுகிறது மெய்யானால், என் நிழலிலே வந்தடையுங்கள்; இல்லாவிட்டால் முட்செடியிலிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு லீபனோனின் கேதுரு மரங்களைப் பட்சிக்கக்கடவது என்றது. And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

16 என் தகப்பன் உங்களுக்காக யுத்தம் பண்ணி, தன் ஜீவனை எண்ணாமற்போய், உங்களை மீதியானியரின் கையினின்று இரட்சித்தார். Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

17 நீங்களோ இன்று என் தகப்பனுடைய குடும்பத்துக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, அவருடைய குமாரரான எழுபது பேரையும் ஒரே கல்லின்மேல் கொலைசெய்து, அவருடைய வேலைக்காரியின் மகனாகிய அபிமெலேக்கு உங்கள் சகோதரனானபடியினால், அவனைச் சீகேம் பட்டணத்தாருக்கு ராஜாவாக்கினீர்கள். (For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

18 இப்போதும் நீங்கள் அவனை ராஜாவாக்கின செய்கை உண்மையும் உத்தமமுமான செய்கையாயிருக்குமானால், And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

19 நீங்கள் யெருபாகாலையும் அவர் குடும்பத்தாரையும் நன்மையாக நடத்தி, அவர் கைகளின் செய்கைக்குத்தக்கதை அவர்களுக்குச் செய்து, இப்படி இந்நாளில் அவரையும் அவர் குடும்பத்தாரையும் நடத்தினது உண்மையும் உத்தமுமாயிருக்குமானால், அபிமெலேக்கின்மேல் நீங்களும் சந்தோஷமாயிருங்கள்; உங்கள்மேல் அவனும் சந்தோஷமாயிருக்கட்டும். If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

20 இல்லாவிட்டால் அபிமெலேக்கிலிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு, சீகேம் பட்டணத்தாரையும், மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தாரையும் பட்சிக்கவும், சீகேம் பட்டணத்தாரிலும் மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தாரிலுமிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு, அபிமெலேக்கைப் பட்சிக்கவும் கடவது என்று யோதாம் சொல்லி, But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

21 தன் சகோதரானாகிய அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பயந்து, தப்பியோடி, பேயேருக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்தான். And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

22 அபிமெலேக்கு இஸ்ரவேலை மூன்று வருஷம் அரசாண்டபின்பு, When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,

23 அபிமெலேக்குக்கும் சீகேமின் பெரிய மனுஷருக்கும் நடுவே பொல்லாப்பு உண்டாக்கும் ஆவியை தேவன் வரப்பண்ணினார். Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

24 யெருபாகாலின் எழுபது குமாரருக்குச் செய்யப்பட்ட கொடுமை வந்து பலித்து, அவர்களுடைய இரத்தப்பழி அவர்களைக் கொன்ற அவர்களுடைய சகோதரனாகிய அபிமெலேக்கின்மேலும், தன் சகோதரரைக் கொல்ல அவன் கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்தின சீகேம் மனுஷர் மேலும் சுமரும்படியாகச் சீகேமின் பெரிய மனுஷர் அபிமெலேக்குக்கு இரண்டகம் பண்ணினார்கள். That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

25 சீகேமின் மனுஷர் மலைகளின் உச்சியில் அவனுக்குப் பதிவிருக்கிறவர்களை வைத்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் அருகே வழி நடந்து போகிற யாவரையும் கொள்ளையிட்டார்கள்; அது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

26 ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகால் தன் சகோதரரோடே சீகேமுக்குள் போனான்; சீகேமின் பெரிய மனுஷர் அவனை நம்பி, And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.

27 வெளியே புறப்பட்டு, தங்கள் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களின் பழங்களை அறுத்து, ஆலையாட்டி, ஆடிப்பாடி, தங்கள் தேவனின் வீட்டிற்குள் போய், புசித்துக்குடித்து, அபிமெலேக்கை சபித்தார்கள். And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

28 அப்பொழுது ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகால்: அபிமெலேக்கு யார்? சீகேம் யார்? நாம் அவனைச் சேவிக்கவேண்டியதென்ன? அவன் யெருபாகாலின் மகன் அல்லவா? சேபூல் அவனுடைய காரியக்காரன் அல்லவா? சீகேமின் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோரின் மனுஷரையே சேவியுங்கள்; அவனை நாங்கள் சேவிப்பானேன்? And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

29 இந்த ஜனங்கள் மாத்திரம் என் கைக்குள் இருக்கட்டும்; நான் அபிமெலேக்கைத் துரத்திவிடுவேன் என்றான். உன் சேனையைப் பெருகப்பண்ணிப் புறப்பட்டுவா என்று, அவன் அபிமெலேக்குக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினான். And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

30 பட்டணத்தின் அதிகாரியாகிய சேபூல் ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகாலின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டபோது, கோபமூண்டு, And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

31 இரகசியமாய் அபிமெலேக்கினிடத்துக்கு ஆட்களை அனுப்பி: இதோ, ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகாலும் அவனுடைய சகோதரரும் சீகேமுக்கு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள்; பட்டணத்தை உமக்கு விரோதமாக எழுப்புகிறார்கள். And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

32 ஆகையால் நீர் உம்மோடிருக்கும் ஜனங்களோடேகூட இரவில் எழுந்து வந்து வெளியிலே பதிவிருந்து, Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

33 காலமே சூரியன் உதிக்கையில் எழும்பி, பட்டணத்தின் மேல் விழுந்து, அவனும் அவனோடிருக்கிற ஜனங்களும் உமக்கு எதிரே புறப்படும்போது, உம்முடைய கைக்கு நேரிடுகிறபடி அவனுக்குச் செய்யும் என்று சொல்லியனுப்பினான். And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

34 அப்படியே அபிமெலேக்கும், அவனோடிருந்த சகல ஜனங்களும், இரவில் எழுந்துபோய், சீகேமுக்கு விரோதமாக நாலு படையாகப் பதிவிருந்தார்கள். And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

35 ஏபேதின் குமாரன் காகால் புறப்பட்டு, பட்டணத்தின் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் நின்றான்; அப்பொழுது பதிவிருந்த அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனங்களோடேகூட எழும்பிவந்தான். And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.

36 காகால் அந்த ஜனங்களைக் கண்டு: இதோ, மலைகளின் உச்சிகளிலிருந்து ஜனங்கள் இறங்கிவருகிறார்கள் என்று சேபூலோடே சொன்னான். அதற்குச் சேபூல்: நீ மலைகளின் நிழலைக் கண்டு, மனுஷர் என்று நினைக்கிறாய் என்றான். And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

37 காகாலோ திரும்பவும்: இதோ, ஜனங்கள் தேசத்தின் மேட்டிலிருந்து இறங்கிவந்து, ஒரு படை மெயொனெனீமின் கர்வாலிமரத்தின் வழியாய் வருகிறது என்றான். And Gaal spake again, and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

38 அதற்குச் சேபூல்: அபிமெலேக்கை நாம் சேவிக்கிறதற்கு அவன் யார் என்று நீ சொன்ன உன் வாய் இப்பொழுது எங்கே? நீ நிந்தித்தஜனங்கள் அவர்கள் அல்லவா? இப்பொழுது நீ புறப்பட்டு, அவர்களோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணு என்றான். Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

39 அப்பொழுது காகால் சீகேமின் மனுஷருக்கு முன்பாகப் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், அபிமெலேக்கோடே யுத்தம் பண்ணினான். And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.

40 அபிமெலேக்கு அவனைத் துரத்த, அவன் அவனுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடினான்; பட்டணவாசல்மட்டும் அநேகர் வெட்டுண்டு விழுந்தார்கள். And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.

41 அபிமெலேக்கு அருமாவில் இருந்துவிட்டான்; சேபூல் காகாலையும் அவன் சகோதரரையும் சீகேமிலே குடியிராதபடிக்குத் துரத்திவிட்டான். And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

42 மறுநாளிலே ஜனங்கள் வெளியிலே வயலுக்குப் போனார்கள்; அது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

43 அவன் ஜனங்களைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை மூன்று படையாக வகுத்து, வெளியிலே பதிவிருந்து, அந்த ஜனங்கள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு வருகிறதைக் கண்டு, அவர்கள்மேல் எழும்பி, அவர்களை வெட்டினான். And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.

44 அபிமெலேக்கும் அவனோடிருந்த படையும் பாய்ந்துவந்து, பட்டணத்தின் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் நின்றார்கள்; மற்ற இரண்டு படைகளோ வெளியிலிருக்கிற யாவர்மேலும் விழுந்து, அவர்களை வெட்டினார்கள். And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.

45 அபிமெலேக்கு அந்நாள் முழுவதும் பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, பட்டணத்தைப் பிடித்து, அதிலிருந்த ஜனங்களைக் கொன்று, பட்டணத்தை இடித்து விட்டு, அதில் உப்பு விதைத்தான். And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.

46 அதைச் சீகேம் துருக்கத்து மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவர்கள் பேரீத் தேவனுடைய கோவில் அரணுக்குள் பிரவேசித்தார்கள். And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.

47 சீகேம் துருக்கத்து மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் அங்கே கூடியிருக்கிறது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

48 அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னோடிருந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களோடுங்கூடச் சல்மோன் மலையில் ஏறி, தன் கையிலே கோடரியைப் பிடித்து, ஒரு மரத்தின் கொம்பை வெட்டி, அதை எடுத்து, தன் தோளின் மேல் போட்டுக்கொண்டு, தன்னோடிருந்த ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நான் என்ன செய்கிறேன் என்று பார்க்கிறீர்களே, நீங்களும் தீவிரமாய் என்னைப்போலச் செய்யுங்கள் என்றான். And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

49 அப்படியே சகல ஜனங்களும் அவரவர் ஒவ்வொரு கொம்பை வெட்டி, அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பின்சென்று அவைகளை அந்த அரணுக்கு அருகே போட்டு, அக்கினி கொளுத்தி அந்த அரணைச் சுட்டுப்போட்டார்கள்; அதினால் புருஷரும் ஸ்திரீகளும் ஏறக்குறைய ஆயிரம்பேராகிய சீகேம் துருக்கத்து மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் செத்தார்கள். And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

50 பின்பு அபிமெலேக்கு தேபேசுக்குப்போய், அதற்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாளயமிறங்கி, அதைப் பிடித்தான். Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

51 அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் நடுவே பலத்ததுருக்கம் இருந்தது; அங்கே சகல புருஷரும் ஸ்திரீகளும் பட்டணத்து மனுஷர் அனைவரும் ஓடிப் புகுந்து, கதவைப் பூட்டிக்கொண்டு, துருக்கத்தின்மேல் ஏறினார்கள். But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.

52 அபிமெலேக்கு அந்தத் துருக்கம்மட்டும் வந்து, அதின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, துருக்கத்தின் கதவைச் சுட்டெரித்துப் போடும்படிக்கு, அதின் கிட்டச் சேர்ந்தான். And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.

53 அப்பொழுது ஒரு ஸ்திரீ ஒரு ஏந்திரக்கல்லின் துண்டை அபிமெலெக்குடைய தலையின்மேல் போட்டாள்; அது அவன் மண்டையை உடைத்தது; And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.

54 உடனே அவன் தன் ஆயுததாரியாகிய வேலைக்காரனைக் கூப்பிட்டு: ஒரு ஸ்திரீ என்னைக் கொன்றாள் என்று என்னைக் குறித்துச் சொல்லாதபடிக்கு, நீ உன் பட்டயத்தை உருவி, என்னைக் கொன்று போடு என்று அவனோடே சொன்னான்; அப்படியே அவன் வேலைக்காரன் அவனை உருவக் குத்தினான், அவன் செத்துப்போனான். Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A women slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.

55 அபிமெலேக்குச் செத்துப்போனதை இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் கண்டபோது, அவர்கள் தங்கள் தங்கள் இடங்களுக்குப் போய் விட்டார்கள். And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

56 இப்படியே அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னுடைய எழுபது சகோதரரைக் கொலைசெய்ததினால், தன் தகப்பனுக்குச் செய்த பொல்லாப்பை தேவன் அவன்மேல் திரும்பும்படி செய்தார். Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:

57 சீகேம் மனுஷர் செய்த எல்லாப் பொல்லாப்பையும் தேவன் அவர்கள் தலையின்மேல் திரும்பும்படி செய்தார்; யெருபாகாலின் குமாரன் யோதாமின் சாபம் அவர்களுக்குப் பலித்தது. And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.

1 Yerupaakaalin kumaaran apimelaekku seekaemilirukkira than thaayin sakothararidaththirkup poy, avarkalaiyum than thaayin thakappanutaiya vamsamaana anaivaraiyum Nnokki: And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

2 Yerupaakaalin kumaarar elupathupaeraakiya ellaarum ungalai aaluvathu ungalukku nallatho, oruvan maaththiram ungalai aaluvathu ungalukku nallatho entu neengal seekaemilirukkira sakala periya manusharin kaathukalum kaetkappaesungal; naan ungal elumpum ungal maamsamumaanavan entu ninaiththukkollungal entan. Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

3 Appatiyae avan thaayin sakotharar seekaemilirukkira sakala periya manusharin kaathukalum kaetka intha vaarththaikalaiyellaam avanukkaakap paesinaarkal; appoluthu: avan nammutaiya sakotharan entu avarkal sonnathinaal, avarkal iruthayam apimelaekkaip pinpattach saaynthathu. And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

4 Avarkal paakaal paereeththin kovililirunthu elupathu vellikkaasai eduththu avanukkuk koduththaarkal; avaikalaal apimelaekku veenarum pokkirikalumaana manusharaich sevakaththil vaiththaan; avarkal avanaip pinpattinaarkal. And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

5 Avan opraavilirukkira than thakappan veettirkup poy, yerupaakaalin kumaararaakiya than sakotharar elupathu paeraiyum orae kallin mael kolaiseythaan; aanaalum yerupaakaalin ilaiya kumaaranaakiya yothaam oliththirunthapatiyinaal avan thappinaan. And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

6 Pinpu seekaemilirukkira sakala periya manusharum, millovin kudumpaththaaranaivarum kootikkonndupoy, seekaemilirukkira uyarntha karvaalimaraththanntaiyilae apimelaekkai raajaavaakkinaarkal. And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

7 Ithu yothaamukku arivikkappattapothu, avan poy, keriseem malaiyin uchchiyil aerinintu, uraththasaththamittuk kooppittu, avarkalai Nnokki: seekaemin periya manusharae, Dhevan ungalukkuch sevikodukkumpati neengal enakkuch sevikodungal. And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

8 Virutchangal thangalukku oru raajaavai apishaekampannnumpati poy, olivamaraththaip paarththu: nee engalukku raajaavaayiru entathu. The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

9 Atharku olivamaram: thaevarkalum manusharum pukalukira ennilulla enkolumaiyai naan vittu, marangalai arasaalappovaeno entathu. But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

10 Appoluthu marangal aththimaraththaip paarththu: nee vanthu, engalukku raajaavaayiru entathu. And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

11 Atharku aththimaram: naan en mathuraththaiyum en narkaniyaiyum vittu, marangalai arasaalappovaeno entathu. But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

12 Appoluthu marangal thiraatchach setiyaip paarththu: nee vanthu, engalukku raajaavaayiru entathu. Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

13 Atharkuth thiraatchachcheti: thaevarkalaiyum manusharaiyum makilappannnum en rasaththai naan vittu marangalai arasaalappovaeno entathu. And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

14 Appoluthu marangalellaam mutchediyaip paarththu: nee vanthu, engalukku raajaavaayiru entathu. Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

15 Atharku mutchediyaanathu marangalaip paarththu: neengal ennai ungalukku raajaavaaka apishaekampannnukirathu meyyaanaal, en nilalilae vanthataiyungal; illaavittal mutchediyilirunthu akkini purappattu leepanonin kaethuru marangalaip patchikkakkadavathu entathu. And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

16 En thakappan ungalukkaaka yuththam pannnni, than jeevanai ennnnaamarpoy, ungalai meethiyaaniyarin kaiyinintu iratchiththaar. Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

17 Neengalo intu en thakappanutaiya kudumpaththukku virothamaay elumpi, avarutaiya kumaararaana elupathu paeraiyum orae kallinmael kolaiseythu, avarutaiya vaelaikkaariyin makanaakiya apimelaekku ungal sakotharanaanapatiyinaal, avanaich seekaem pattanaththaarukku raajaavaakkineerkal. (For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

18 Ippothum neengal avanai raajaavaakkina seykai unnmaiyum uththamamumaana seykaiyaayirukkumaanaal, And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

19 Neengal yerupaakaalaiyum avar kudumpaththaaraiyum nanmaiyaaka nadaththi, avar kaikalin seykaikkuththakkathai avarkalukkuch seythu, ippati innaalil avaraiyum avar kudumpaththaaraiyum nadaththinathu unnmaiyum uththamumaayirukkumaanaal, apimelaekkinmael neengalum santhoshamaayirungal; ungalmael avanum santhoshamaayirukkattum. If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

20 Illaavittal apimelaekkilirunthu akkini purappattu, seekaem pattanaththaaraiyum, millovin kudumpaththaaraiyum patchikkavum, seekaem pattanaththaarilum millovin kudumpaththaarilumirunthu akkini purappattu, apimelaekkaip patchikkavum kadavathu entu yothaam solli, But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

21 Than sakotharaanaakiya apimelaekkukkup payanthu, thappiyoti, paeyaerukkup poy, angae kutiyirunthaan. And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

22 Apimelaekku isravaelai moontu varusham arasaanndapinpu, When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,

23 Apimelaekkukkum seekaemin periya manusharukkum naduvae pollaappu unndaakkum aaviyai Dhevan varappannnninaar. Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

24 Yerupaakaalin elupathu kumaararukkuch seyyappatta kodumai vanthu paliththu, avarkalutaiya iraththappali avarkalaik konta avarkalutaiya sakotharanaakiya apimelaekkinmaelum, than sakothararaik kolla avan kaikalaith thidappaduththina seekaem manushar maelum sumarumpatiyaakach seekaemin periya manushar apimelaekkukku iranndakam pannnninaarkal. That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

25 Seekaemin manushar malaikalin uchchiyil avanukkup pathivirukkiravarkalai vaiththaarkal; avarkal thangal arukae vali nadanthu pokira yaavaraiyum kollaiyittarkal; athu apimelaekkukku arivikkappattathu. And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

26 Aepaethin kumaaranaakiya kaakaal than sakothararotae seekaemukkul ponaan; seekaemin periya manushar avanai nampi, And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.

27 Veliyae purappattu, thangal thiraatchaththottangalin palangalai araுththu, aalaiyaatti, aatippaati, thangal thaevanin veettirkul poy, pusiththukkutiththu, apimelaekkai sapiththaarkal. And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

28 Appoluthu aepaethin kumaaranaakiya kaakaal: apimelaekku yaar? Seekaem yaar? Naam avanaich sevikkavaenntiyathenna? Avan yerupaakaalin makan allavaa? Sepool avanutaiya kaariyakkaaran allavaa? Seekaemin thakappanaakiya aemorin manusharaiyae seviyungal; avanai naangal sevippaanaen? And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

29 Intha janangal maaththiram en kaikkul irukkattum; naan apimelaekkaith thuraththividuvaen entan. Un senaiyaip perukappannnnip purappattuvaa entu, avan apimelaekkukkuch solliyanuppinaan. And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

30 Pattanaththin athikaariyaakiya sepool aepaethin kumaaranaakiya kaakaalin vaarththaikalaik kaettapothu, kopamoonndu, And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

31 Irakasiyamaay apimelaekkinidaththukku aatkalai anuppi: itho, aepaethin kumaaranaakiya kaakaalum avanutaiya sakothararum seekaemukku vanthirukkiraarkal; pattanaththai umakku virothamaaka eluppukiraarkal. And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

32 Aakaiyaal neer ummotirukkum janangalotaekooda iravil elunthu vanthu veliyilae pathivirunthu, Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

33 Kaalamae sooriyan uthikkaiyil elumpi, pattanaththin mael vilunthu, avanum avanotirukkira janangalum umakku ethirae purappadumpothu, ummutaiya kaikku naeridukirapati avanukkuch seyyum entu solliyanuppinaan. And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

34 Appatiyae apimelaekkum, avanotiruntha sakala janangalum, iravil elunthupoy, seekaemukku virothamaaka naalu pataiyaakap pathivirunthaarkal. And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

35 Aepaethin kumaaran kaakaal purappattu, pattanaththin olimukavaasalil nintan; appoluthu pathiviruntha apimelaekku thannotirukkira janangalotaekooda elumpivanthaan. And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.

36 Kaakaal antha janangalaik kanndu: itho, malaikalin uchchikalilirunthu janangal irangivarukiraarkal entu sepoolotae sonnaan. Atharkuch sepool: nee malaikalin nilalaik kanndu, manushar entu ninaikkiraay entan. And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

37 Kaakaalo thirumpavum: itho, janangal thaesaththin maettilirunthu irangivanthu, oru patai meyoneneemin karvaalimaraththin valiyaay varukirathu entan. And Gaal spake again, and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

38 Atharkuch sepool: apimelaekkai naam sevikkiratharku avan yaar entu nee sonna un vaay ippoluthu engae? Nee ninthiththajanangal avarkal allavaa? Ippoluthu nee purappattu, avarkalotae yuththampannnu entan. Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

39 Appoluthu kaakaal seekaemin manusharukku munpaakap purappattuppoy, apimelaekkotae yuththam pannnninaan. And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.

40 Apimelaekku avanaith thuraththa, avan avanukku munpaaka otinaan; pattanavaasalmattum anaekar vettunndu vilunthaarkal. And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.

41 Apimelaekku arumaavil irunthuvittan; sepool kaakaalaiyum avan sakothararaiyum seekaemilae kutiyiraathapatikkuth thuraththivittan. And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

42 Maraுnaalilae janangal veliyilae vayalukkup ponaarkal; athu apimelaekkukku arivikkappattapothu, And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

43 Avan janangalaik koottikkonndu, avarkalai moontu pataiyaaka vakuththu, veliyilae pathivirunthu, antha janangal pattanaththilirunthu purappattu varukirathaik kanndu, avarkalmael elumpi, avarkalai vettinaan. And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.

44 Apimelaekkum avanotiruntha pataiyum paaynthuvanthu, pattanaththin olimukavaasalil nintarkal; matta iranndu pataikalo veliyilirukkira yaavarmaelum vilunthu, avarkalai vettinaarkal. And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.

45 Apimelaekku annaal muluvathum pattanaththinmael yuththampannnni, pattanaththaip pitiththu, athiliruntha janangalaik kontu, pattanaththai itiththu vittu, athil uppu vithaiththaan. And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.

46 Athaich seekaem thurukkaththu manushar ellaarum kaelvippattapothu, avarkal paereeth thaevanutaiya kovil aranukkul piravaesiththaarkal. And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.

47 Seekaem thurukkaththu manushar ellaarum angae kootiyirukkirathu apimelaekkukku arivikkappattapothu, And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

48 Apimelaekku thannotiruntha ellaa janangalodungaூdach salmon malaiyil aeri, than kaiyilae kodariyaip pitiththu, oru maraththin kompai vetti, athai eduththu, than tholin mael pottukkonndu, thannotiruntha janangalai Nnokki: naan enna seykiraேn entu paarkkireerkalae, neengalum theeviramaay ennaippolach seyyungal entan. And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

49 Appatiyae sakala janangalum avaravar ovvoru kompai vetti, apimelaekkukkup pinsentu avaikalai antha aranukku arukae pottu, akkini koluththi antha arannaich suttuppottarkal; athinaal purusharum sthireekalum aerakkuraiya aayirampaeraakiya seekaem thurukkaththu manushar ellaarum seththaarkal. And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

50 Pinpu apimelaekku thaepaesukkuppoy, atharku virothamaayp paalayamirangi, athaip pitiththaan. Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

51 Anthap pattanaththin naduvae palaththathurukkam irunthathu; angae sakala purusharum sthireekalum pattanaththu manushar anaivarum otip pukunthu, kathavaip poottikkonndu, thurukkaththinmael aerinaarkal. But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.

52 Apimelaekku anthath thurukkammattum vanthu, athinmael yuththampannnni, thurukkaththin kathavaich sutteriththup podumpatikku, athin kittach sernthaan. And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.

53 Appoluthu oru sthiree oru aenthirakkallin thunntai apimelekkutaiya thalaiyinmael pottal; athu avan manntaiyai utaiththathu; And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.

54 Udanae avan than aayuthathaariyaakiya vaelaikkaaranaik kooppittu: oru sthiree ennaik kontal entu ennaik kuriththuch sollaathapatikku, nee un pattayaththai uruvi, ennaik kontu podu entu avanotae sonnaan; appatiyae avan vaelaikkaaran avanai uruvak kuththinaan, avan seththupponaan. Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A women slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.

55 Apimelaekkuch seththupponathai Israel manushar kanndapothu, avarkal thangal thangal idangalukkup poy vittarkal. And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

56 Ippatiyae apimelaekku thannutaiya elupathu sakothararaik kolaiseythathinaal, than thakappanukkuch seytha pollaappai Dhevan avanmael thirumpumpati seythaar. Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:

57 Seekaem manushar seytha ellaap pollaappaiyum Dhevan avarkal thalaiyinmael thirumpumpati seythaar; yerupaakaalin kumaaran yothaamin saapam avarkalukkup paliththathu. And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
