וַיָּבֹ֤א came bôʾ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ So the king melek וְהָמָ֔ן and Haman hāmān לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת to banquet šātâ עִם with ʿim אֶסְתֵּ֥ר Esther ʾestēr הַמַּלְכָּֽה׃ the queen. malkâ

וַיֹּאמֶר֩ said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ And the king melek לְאֶסְתֵּ֜ר unto Esther ʾestēr גַּ֣ם again gam בַּיּ֤וֹם day yôm הַשֵּׁנִי֙ on the second šēnî בְּמִשְׁתֵּ֣ה at the banquet mište הַיַּ֔יִן of wine, yayin מַה What mâ שְּׁאֵֽלָתֵ֛ךְ thy petition, šĕʾēlâ אֶסְתֵּ֥ר Esther? ʾestēr הַמַּלְכָּ֖ה queen malkâ וְתִנָּ֣תֵֽן and it shall be granted nātan לָ֑ךְ וּמַה thee: and what mâ בַּקָּֽשָׁתֵ֛ךְ thy request? baqqāšâ עַד to ʿad חֲצִ֥י the half ḥēṣî הַמַּלְכ֖וּת of the kingdom. malkût וְתֵעָֽשׂ׃ and it shall be performed, ʿāśâ

וַתַּ֨עַן answered ʿānâ אֶסְתֵּ֤ר Then Esther ʾestēr הַמַּלְכָּה֙ the queen malkâ וַתֹּאמַ֔ר and said, ʾāmar אִם If ʾim מָצָ֨אתִי I have found māṣāʾ חֵ֤ן favour ḥēn בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ in thy sight, ʿayin הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ O king, melek וְאִם and if ʾim עַל ʿal הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king, melek ט֑וֹב it please ṭôb תִּנָּֽתֶן be given nātan לִ֤י נַפְשִׁי֙ let my life nepeš בִּשְׁאֵ֣לָתִ֔י me at my petition, šĕʾēlâ וְעַמִּ֖י and my people ʿam בְּבַקָּֽשָׁתִֽי׃ at my request: baqqāšâ

כִּ֤י For kî נִמְכַּ֙רְנוּ֙ we are sold, mākar אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî וְעַמִּ֔י and my people, ʿam לְהַשְׁמִ֖יד to be destroyed, šāmad לַֽהֲר֣וֹג to be slain, hārag וּלְאַבֵּ֑ד and to perish. ʾābad וְ֠אִלּוּ But if ʾillû לַֽעֲבָדִ֨ים for bondmen ʿebed וְלִשְׁפָח֤וֹת and bondwomen, šipḥâ נִמְכַּ֙רְנוּ֙ we had been sold mākar הֶֽחֱרַ֔שְׁתִּי I had held my tongue, ḥāraš כִּ֣י although kî אֵ֥ין could not ʾayin הַצָּ֛ר the enemy ṣar שׁוֶֹ֖ה countervail šāwâ בְּנֵ֥זֶק damage. nēzeq הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king's melek

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ answered ʾāmar הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ Then the king melek אֲחַשְׁוֵר֔וֹשׁ Ahasuerus ʾăḥašwērôš וַיֹּ֖אמֶר and said ʾāmar לְאֶסְתֵּ֣ר unto Esther ʾestēr הַמַּלְכָּ֑ה the queen, malkâ מִ֣י Who mî ה֥וּא is he, hûʾ זֶה֙ ze וְאֵֽי and where ʾay זֶ֣ה is he, ze ה֔וּא hûʾ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer מְלָא֥וֹ durst presume mālēʾ לִבּ֖וֹ in his heart lēb לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת to do ʿāśâ כֵּֽן׃ so? kēn

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar אֶסְתֵּ֔ר And Esther ʾestēr אִ֚ישׁ The adversary ʾîš צַ֣ר ṣar וְאוֹיֵ֔ב and enemy ʾōyēb הָמָ֥ן Haman. hāmān הָרָ֖ע wicked raʿ הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וְהָמָ֣ן Then Haman hāmān נִבְעַ֔ת was afraid bāʿat מִלִּפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek וְהַמַּלְכָּֽה׃ and the queen. malkâ

וְהַמֶּ֜לֶךְ And the king melek קָ֤ם arising qûm בַּֽחֲמָתוֹ֙ in his wrath ḥēmâ מִמִּשְׁתֵּ֣ה from the banquet mište הַיַּ֔יִן of wine yayin אֶל into ʾēl גִּנַּ֖ת garden: ginnâ הַבִּיתָ֑ן the palace bîtān וְהָמָ֣ן and Haman hāmān עָמַ֗ד stood up ʿāmad לְבַקֵּ֤שׁ to make request bāqaš עַל for ʿal נַפְשׁוֹ֙ his life nepeš מֵֽאֶסְתֵּ֣ר to Esther ʾestēr הַמַּלְכָּ֔ה the queen; malkâ כִּ֣י for kî רָאָ֔ה he saw rāʾâ כִּֽי that kî כָלְתָ֥ה determined kālâ אֵלָ֛יו against ʾēl הָֽרָעָ֖ה there was evil raʿ מֵאֵ֥ת him by ʾēt הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king. melek

וְהַמֶּ֡לֶךְ Then the king melek שָׁב֩ returned šûb מִגִּנַּ֨ת garden ginnâ הַבִּיתָ֜ן out of the palace bîtān אֶל into ʾēl בֵּ֣ית׀ the place bayit מִשְׁתֵּ֣ה of the banquet mište הַיַּ֗יִן of wine; yayin וְהָמָן֙ and Haman hāmān נֹפֵ֔ל was fallen nāpal עַל upon ʿal הַמִּטָּה֙ the bed miṭṭâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר whereon ʾăšer אֶסְתֵּ֣ר Esther ʾestēr עָלֶ֔יהָ ʿal וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek הֲ֠גַם also gam לִכְבּ֧וֹשׁ Will he force kābaš אֶת ʾēt הַמַּלְכָּ֛ה the queen malkâ עִמִּ֖י before ʿim בַּבָּ֑יִת me in the house? bayit הַדָּבָ֗ר As the word dābār יָצָא֙ went out yāṣāʾ מִפִּ֣י mouth, pe הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ of the king's melek וּפְנֵ֥י face. pānîm הָמָ֖ן Haman's hāmān חָפֽוּ׃ they covered ḥāpâ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar חַ֠רְבוֹנָה And Harbonah, ḥarbônāʾ אֶחָ֨ד one ʾeḥād מִן of min הַסָּֽרִיסִ֜ים the chamberlains, sārîs לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king, melek גַּ֣ם also, gam הִנֵּֽה Behold hinnē הָעֵ֣ץ the gallows ʿēṣ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer עָשָׂ֪ה had made ʿāśâ הָמָ֟ן Haman hāmān לְֽמָרְדֳּכַ֞י for Mordecai, mordĕkay אֲשֶׁ֧ר who ʾăšer דִּבֶּר had spoken dābar ט֣וֹב good ṭôb עַל for ʿal הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king, melek עֹמֵד֙ standeth ʿāmad בְּבֵ֣ית in the house bayit הָמָ֔ן of Haman. hāmān גָּבֹ֖הַּ high, gābōah חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים fifty ḥămiššîm אַמָּ֑ה cubits ʾammâ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said, ʾāmar הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ Then the king melek תְּלֻ֥הוּ Hang tālâ עָלָֽיו׃ him thereon. ʿal

וַיִּתְלוּ֙ So they hanged tālâ אֶת ʾēt הָמָ֔ן Haman hāmān עַל on ʿal הָעֵ֖ץ the gallows ʿēṣ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer הֵכִ֣ין he had prepared kûn לְמָרְדֳּכָ֑י for Mordecai. mordĕkay וַֽחֲמַ֥ת wrath ḥēmâ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ Then was the king's melek שָׁכָֽכָה׃ pacified. šākak
