પલિસ્તીઓએ કહ્યું, “આપણને માંફ કરવા માંટે આપણે ઇસ્રાએલના દેવને અર્પણમાં શુ મોકલવું?”તેથી તેઓએ કહ્યું, “આપણી પાસે પાઁચ પલિસ્તી સરદારો છે, તેથી આપણે ઉંદરના પાંચ સોનાના નમૂના અને ગુમડાં જેવા લાગતા પાંચ સોનાના નમૂના મોકલવા જોઇએ કારણ તમને અને તમાંરા સરદારો તે જ મુશ્કેલીથી પીડાતા હતા.

નગરના પલિસ્તી શાસનકર્તાઓ દલીલાહ પાસે ગયા. અને કહ્યું, “સામસૂનને લલચાવીને તું જાણી લે કે, ‘એનામાં આટલી બધી શક્તિ કયાંથી આવે છે? અને અમે તેને કેવી રીતે બંદીવાન કરી શકીએ અને બાંધી શકીએ? અને અમે તેને કેવીરીતે લાચાર બનાવી શકીએ? તમે અમને આ સર્વ જણાવશો તો અમે તમને અગિયારસો ચાંદીના સિક્કા આપીશું.”

પલિસ્તી આગેવાનોએ તેમના દેવ દાગોનને મોટો ઉત્સવ અને અર્પણો આપવા માંટે તૈયારી કરતા હતાં અને આનંદ કરવા ભેગા થયા. તેઓ કહેતા હતાં, “આપણા દેવે, આપણા શત્રુ સામસૂનને આપણા હવાલે કરી દીધો છે.”

આથી તેમણે તેમના દેવ યહોવાના કરારકોશને એક્રોન મોકલી આપ્યો, જયારે પવિત્રકોશ એક્રોન પહોંચ્યો ત્યારે ત્યાંના લોકો પોકાર કરી ઊઠયા કે, “આપણને અને આપણી પ્રજાને માંરી નાખવા માંટે એ લોકો ઇસ્રાએલીઓના દેવનો કરારકોશ અહીં લઈ આવ્યા છે!”

ગાયો સીધી બેથ-શેમેશને માંગેર્ ચાલવા માંડી. તેઓ ભાંભરડા નાખતી ડાબે કે જમણે હાથે વળ્યા વગર સીધીને સીધી ચાલતી રહી. પલિસ્તી સરદારો બેથ-શેમેશની સરહદ સુધી તેમની પાછળ પાછળ ગયા.
