યહોશુઆ 7
1 પણ ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ વિનાશ કરવાની શાપિત વસ્તુઓમાંથી લઈને પાપ કર્યુ છે. યહૂદા કુળસમૂહનો એક માંણસ આખાને જે ઝેરાહનો પુત્ર ઝાબ્દીનાં પુત્ર કાર્મીનો પુત્ર હતો તેણે ઘણી વસ્તુઓ પોતાને માંટે રાખી લીધી હતી. એટલે યહોવા ઇસ્રાએલીઓ ઉપર રોષે ભરાયા.
2 યરીખો નગરના પતન પછી તરત જ યહોશુઆએ કેટલાક માંણસોને યરીખોથી બેથેલની પૂર્વે બેથ-આવેન પાસે આવેલા આય નગરમાં મોકલ્યા અને તેમને કહ્યું કે, “આય જાઓ અને એ લોકો પર જાસૂસી કરો ને અમને સંદેશો મોકલો.” તેથી તેઓ ગયા અને આયની જાસુસી કરી.
3 ત્યાંથી પાછા ફર્યા બાદ તેમણે યહોશુઆને જણાવ્યું કે, “એ તો નાનું નગર છે, બધા માંણસોએ જવું નહિ, તેનો નાશ કરવા માંટે 2,000-3,000 માંણસો પૂરતા છે. બધાને તકલીફ આપવાની જરૂર નથી. તે લોકો બહું થોડા છે.”
4 આથી આશરે 3,000 ઇસ્રાએલી પુરુષોને આય નગર ઉપર હુમલો કરવા મોકલવામાં આવ્યા; પણ આયના લોકોએ તેમને ઘોર પરાજય આપ્યો.
5 પરંતુ આ હુમલા દરમ્યાન ઇસ્રાએલના 36 માંણસો માંર્યા ગયા; અને બાકીનાને નગરના દરવાજાથી તે છેક (શબારીમ) પથ્થરની ખાણોસુધી પીછો કરવામાં આવ્યો અને ઢોળાવ પર તેઓને માંરી નાખવામાં આવ્યાં.આથી ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ તેમની હિમ્મત ગુમાંવી દીધી અને તેઓ ભયભીત થઈ ગયા.
6 યહોશુઆ તથા તેમના આગેવાનોએ વસ્ત્રો ફાડી નાખ્યાં અને માંથાઁ પર ધૂળ નાખ્યો, અને સાંજ સુધી મોઢું જમીન પર રાખી યહોવાના પવિત્રકોશ સમક્ષ પડી રહ્યાં.
7 ત્યારે યહોશુઆએ યહોવા ને કહ્યું, “હે યહોવા માંરા માંલિક! તે અમને યર્દન નદીને પાર કરાવ્યા અને એમ આ તરફ આવ્યા શા માંટે? શું તારો ઈરાદો અમને અમોરીઓને સોંપી દેવાનો હતો જેથી અમાંરો વિનાશ કરવામાં આવે? અમે નદીને પેલે પાર શાંતિ અને સંતોષથી રહ્યા હોત તો કેવું સારું!
8 ઓ માંરા માંલિક! ઇસ્રાએલીઓ પોતાના શત્રુઓથી નાસી છુટ્યા છે, તે પછી હવે માંરે શું કહેવું?
9 કનાનીઓને તથા દેશના બધા જ વતનીઓને આ બાબતની જાણ થવાની છે. તેઓ બધા અમને ઘેરી વળશે અને અમને અમાંરી ભૂમિ પરથી કાઢી નાખશે અને પૃથ્વી પરથી અમાંરુ નામનિશાન ભૂંસી નાખશે. તો પછી તમાંરા મહાન નામ વિષે શું કરશો?”
10 યહોશુઓને યહોવાએ કહ્યું, “ઊભો થા, આમ ઊંધે માંથે જમીન પર શા માંટે પડયો છે?
11 ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ પાપ કર્યુ છે અને માંરો કરાર તોડ્યો છે, જેને અનુસરવા મે આજ્ઞા કરી હતી. મે વિનાશ કરવા માંટે આજ્ઞા કરી હતી તે શાપિત વસ્તુઓમાંથી તેઓએ ચોરી કરી છે. અને એના વિષે તેઓએ કહ્યું નહિ. અને તેમણે ચોરેલી વસ્તુઓ છુપાવી દીધી છે.
12 આથી તેઓ દુશ્મનો સામે ટકી શકતા નથી. અને તેઓ લડાઈ છોડીને પાછા ભાગી ગયા કારણકે તેઓ નાશ પામવા માંટે ઠરાવાયેલા છે. હવે જ્યા સુધી તમે તમાંરા દ્વારા લેવાયેલી બધી વસ્તુઓનો નાશ નહિ કરો, ત્યાં સુધી હું તમાંરી સાથે રહેનાર નથી.
13 “તેથી, ઊભો થા અને લોકોને શુદ્ધ કર. તેમને કહે: ‘આવતી કાલ માંટે તમે તમાંરી જાતન શુદ્ધ કરો, કારણ ઇસ્રાએલીઓના યહોવા દેવે કહ્યું છે કે, ‘લોકોએ ચોરી કરી છે અને જે તમાંરે ન રાખવી જોઈએ તે વસ્તુઓ રાખી લીધી છે, તમે તમાંરા તાબામાં તે શાપિત વસ્તુઓ રાખી છે જેનો મેં તમને નાશ કરવાની આજ્ઞા કરી હતી અને જો જ્યાં સુધી તે વસ્તુઓ નાશ ન પામે ત્યાં સુધી તમે તમાંરા દુશ્મનોને કરાવી શકવાના નથી.”
14 “‘આથી સવારે તમે બધા પોતાના કુળસમૂહ પ્રમાંણે આવજો અને જે કુળસમૂહને યહોવા પસંદ કરશે તે જાતિ પ્રમાંણે આગળ આવશે અને જે જાતિ યહોવા પસંદ કરશે તે કુટુંબો પ્રમાંણે આગળ આવશે. અને યહોવા જે કુટુંબને પસંદ કરે તે વ્યક્તિ પ્રમાંણે આગળ આવશે.
15 જો વ્યક્તિએ વસ્તુઓમાંથી ચોરી કરી હોય જેનો નાશ કરવાનો હતો, તેને તેની મિલ્કત સાથે જીવતો બાળી મુકાશે, કારણકે તેણે યહોવાની આજ્ઞાનું ઉલ્લઁધન કર્યું હતું, યહોવાના કરારને તોડ્યો છે, અને ઇસ્રાએલના લોકોને ભયંકર ઈજા પહોચાડી છે.”‘
16 યહોશુઆ સવારમાં વહેલો ઊઠયો અને ઇસ્રાએલીઓને કુટુંબ પ્રમાંણે આગળ લઈ આવ્યો, અને યહૂદાના કુટુંબને પસંદ કરવામાં આવ્યું.
17 યહોશુઆ યહૂદાના કુટુંબોને આગળ લઈ આવ્યો અને ઝેરાહના કુટુંબને પસંદ કરવામાં આવ્યું. પછી તે ઝેરાહીઓના કુટુંબને આગળ લાવ્યો, અને ઝીમ્રીના કુટુંબને પસંદ કરવામાં આવ્યું.
18 ઝીમ્રી પોતાના કુટુંબના સભ્યોને વારાફરતી યહૂદાના કુળસમૂહમાંથી આગળ લાવ્યો, અને ઝેરાહના પુત્ર જાબ્દીના પુત્ર કાર્મીના પુત્ર આખાનને શોધી કાઢવામાં આવ્યો.
19 પછી યહોશુઆએ આખાનને કહ્યું, “પુત્ર, ઇસ્રાએલના દેવ યહોવાને આદર આપ અને તેં જે કાંઈ કર્યું હોય તે મને કહે. માંરાથી કશું છુપાવીશ નહિ.”
20 આખાને કહ્યું, “હું કબૂલાત કરું છું કે, મેં ઇસ્રાએલના દેવ યહોવા વિરુદ્ધ પાપ કર્યું છે, માંરો ગુનો આ છે:
21 લૂંટની વસ્તુઓમાં માંરી નજર શિનાર દેશના એક સુંદર ઝભ્ભા ઉપર અને બસો તોલા ચાંદી અને પચાસ તોલા સોનાની લગડી ઉપર પડી અને માંરું મન લલચાયું તેથી મે એ વસ્તુઓ ઉપાડી લીધી અને માંરા તંબુમાં જમીનમાં દાટી દીધી છે. ચાંદી સૌથી નીચે છે.”
22 તેથી યહોશુઆએ તે શોધવા માંટે કેટલાક માંણસો મોકલ્યા. તેઓ દોડતા તંબુમાં ગયા અને આખાને કહ્યું હતું તે જ રીતે ચોરેલી વસ્તુઓ અને સૌથી નીચે ચાંદી જમીનમાં દાટેલા હતાં.
23 તેમણે એ વસ્તુઓ તંબુમાંથી બહાર કાઢી યહોશુઆ અને બધા ઇસ્રાએલીઓ આગળ લાવીને યહોવા સમક્ષ રજૂ કરી.
24 ત્યાર પછી યહોશુઆ ઝેરાહના પુત્ર આખાનને ચાંદી, ઝભ્ભો અને સોનાની લગડી તથા તેનાં છોકરાછોકરી, ઢોર, ગધેડાં, તંબુ તથા તેના સર્વસ્વ સાથે આફતની ખીણમાં લઈ ગયો, અને બધા ઇસ્રાએલીઓ તેની સાથે ગયા.
25 યહોશુઆએ આખાનને કહ્યું, “તેં અમાંરા ઉપર આ આફત કેમ ઉતારી? હવે યહોવા તમાંરા ઉપર આફત ઉતારશે.” પછી બધા ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ તેને ઈંટાળી કરીને માંરી નાખ્યો. તે લોકોએ તે બધાંને બાળી મૂકયાં, અને ઈંટાળી કરીને માંરી નાખ્યાં.
26 પછી તેઓએ તે જગ્યાએ પથ્થરોનો મોટો ઢગલો કર્યો, જે આજે પણ ત્યાં છે. તે જગ્યા આખોરની ખીણને નામે ઓળખાય છે. ત્યાર પછી યહોવા ગુસ્સે ન હતા.
1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
6 And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
8 O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
10 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the Lord taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the Lord shall take shall come by households; and the household which the Lord shall take shall come man by man.
15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:
17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the Lord.
24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.
25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the Lord shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the Lord turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
Jeremiah 20 in Tamil and English
1 ઈમ્મેરનો પુત્ર યાજક પાશહૂર યહોવાના મંદિરના રક્ષકોનો ઉપરી હતો. તેણે યમિર્યાને આવી ભવિષ્યવાણી ભાખતો સાંભળ્યો,
Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the Lord, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.
2 તેથી તેણે યમિર્યાની ધરપકડ કરી અને તેને કોરડાથી ફટકાર્યો, પછી તેણે તેને મંદિરના બિન્યામીન દરવાજા આગળ સાંકળોથી બાધ્યો.
Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.
3 બીજા દિવસે સવારે પાશહૂરે યમિર્યાને હેડમાંથી છૂટો કર્યો ત્યારે યમિર્યાએ તેને કહ્યું, “યહોવા તને પાશહૂર નહિ કહે, પણ માગોર-મિસ્સાબીબ (સર્વત્ર ત્રાસ) કહેશે.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The Lord hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.
4 કારણ કે યહોવા તારા પર તથા તારા સર્વ મિત્રો પર ભય મોકલશે અને તેઓના શત્રુઓની તરવારોથી તેઓને તું મૃત્યુ પામતાં જોશે. આખો યહૂદિયા હું બાબિલના રાજાને સોંપી દઇશ. તે તેમને કેદ કરીને બાબિલ લઇ જશે અને ત્યાં તરવારથી મારી નાખશે.
For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
5 આ શહેરની સર્વ સંપત્તિ, એના બધા ભંડારો અને કિમતી વસ્તુઓ, યહૂદિયાના રાજાનો બધો ખજાનો હું તેમના શત્રુઓને સોંપી દઇશ, શત્રુઓ લૂંટમાર કરીને એનો કબજો લેશે અને બાબિલ લઇ જવામાં આવશે.
Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
6 તું, પાશહૂર, અને તારું કુટુંબ કેદ પકડાશો, તમને બાબિલ લઇ જવામાં આવશે, અને ત્યાં તમારું મોત થશે અને ત્યાં તમે દટાશો. તું અને તારા બધા મિત્રો, જેમને તેં ખોટી ભવિષ્યવાણી સંભળાવેલી છે.”‘
And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.
7 પછી મેં કહ્યું, “હે યહોવા, તમે મને યુકિતપૂર્વક છેતર્યો છે. તમારા સંદેશાઓ આપવા માટે તમે મને દબાણ કર્યુ. કારણ કે મારા કરતાં તમે અતિ બળવાન છો. પરંતુ હવે હું બધા દિવસો હાંસીપાત્ર થયો છું અને સર્વ લોકો મારી મશ્કરી કરે છે.
O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.
8 કેમ કે જ્યારે જ્યારે હું બોલું છું ત્યારે ત્યારે ઘાટાં પાડીને એક જ વાત કહેવાની છે, ‘હિંસા અને વિનાશ!’ હે યહોવા, તારી વાણી સંભળાવવાને કારણે આખો દિવસ મારે હાંસી અને નામોશી સહન કરવી પડે છે.”
For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.
9 હું જો એમ કહું કે, “હવે હું યહોવાને સંભારીશ નહિ, એને નામે બોલું જ નહિ.” તો તારી એ વાણી મારા અંગે અંગમાં ભંડારાયેલી આગની જેમ મારા અંતરમાં ભડભડી ઊઠે છે; અને હું તેને કાબૂમાં રાખવા મથું છું, પણ નથી રાખી શકતો.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
10 ચારે બાજુથી હું તેઓની ધમકીઓ ઉચ્ચારાતી સાંભળું છું અને મને ડર લાગે છે, તેઓ કહે છે, “આપણે ફરિયાદ કરીશું. જેઓ મારા મિત્રો હતા તેઓ સાવધાનીથી મને નિહાળે છે કે, ક્યારે ભયંકર ભૂલ કરી બેસું. તે પોતે જ ફસાઇ જશે અને ત્યારે આપણે તેના પર આપણું વૈર વાળીશું. તેઓ આ પ્રમાણે કહે છે.”
For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.
11 પરંતુ મહાન યોદ્ધાની જેમ યહોવા મારી પડખે ઊભા છે. તે પરાક્રમી તથા ભયાવહ છે. મારા જુલમગારો ઠોકર ખાશે, તેઓ નહિ ફાવે, તેઓ નિષ્ફળ જતાં ભારે ફજેત થશે; તેઓ બધી રીતે અપમાનિત થશે અને સદાને માટે તેઓ પર કલંક લાગશે.
But the Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
12 હે સૈન્યોના દેવ યહોવા, તમે સતનું પારખું કરો છો, મારા મનનો અને હૃદયનો તાગ લો છો; અને હું ઇચ્છું છું કે હું તમને એમના પર બદલો વાળતા જોવા પામુંં, કારણ કે મેં મારો દાવો ફકત તમને સોંપ્યો છે.
But, O Lord of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
13 યહોવાના ગીત ગાઓ, એમનાં ગુણગાન કરો. કારણ, તેણે દુષ્ટોના હાથમાંથી દરિદ્રીઓનું જીવન ઉગારી લીધુ છે.
Sing unto the Lord, praise ye the Lord: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
14 તેમ છતાં મારા જન્મનો દિવસ શાપિત થાઓ!
Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.
15 તને પુત્ર થયો છે એવી વધામણી મારા પિતાને આપનાર માણસ શાપિત થાઓ.
Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.
16 તે માણસના હાલ એ પુરાતન નગરોના જેવા થાવ. જેનો યહોવાએ દયા રાખ્યા વગર નાશ કર્યો છે, ભલે તેને આખો દિવસ રણનાદ સંભળાય; સવારમાં આર્તનાદ અને બપોરે યુદ્ધનાદ સંભળાય,
And let that man be as the cities which the Lord overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;
17 કારણ કે, તેણે મને ગર્ભમાં જ મારી ન નાખ્યો, તો મારી માતા જ મારી કબર બની હોત, તેનું ઉદર સદા માટે મોટું રહ્યું હોત.
Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.
18 હું કષ્ટો અને દુ:ખ સહન કરવા માટે, શરમાળ જીવન જીવવા માટે શું કામ ગર્ભમાંથી બહાર આવ્યો?
Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
