ઈબ્રાહિમને ત્યાં બાળકો થાય એવી કોઈ આશા ન હતી. પરંતુ ઈબ્રાહિમને દેવમાં વિશ્વાસ હતો, અને આશા સેવવાનું તેણે ચાલુ રાખ્યું. તેથી જ તો ઘણી પ્રજાઓનો તે પૂર્વજ થયો. દેવે તેને કહ્યું હતું, “તને ઘણાં વંશજો મળશે.”
