Numbers 17
1 तब यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा,
2 इस्त्राएलियों से बातें करके उन के पूर्वजों के घरानों के अनुसार, उनके सब प्रधानों के पास से एक एक छड़ी ले; और उन बारह छडिय़ों में से एक एक पर एक एक के मूल पुरूष का नाम लिख,
3 और लेवियों की छड़ी पर हारून का नाम लिख। क्योंकि इस्त्राएलियों के पूर्वजों के घरानों के एक एक मुख्य पुरूष की एक एक छड़ी होगी।
4 और उन छडिय़ों को मिलापवाले तम्बू में साक्षीपत्र के आगे, जहां मैं तुम लोगों से मिला करता हूं, रख दे।
5 और जिस पुरूष को मैं चुनूंगा उसकी छड़ी में कलियां फूट निकलेंगी; और इस्त्राएली जो तुम पर बुड़बुड़ाते रहते हैं, वह बुड़बुड़ाना मैं अपने ऊपर से दूर करूंगा।
6 सो मूसा ने इस्त्राएलियों से यह बात कही; और उनके सब प्रधानों ने अपने अपने लिये, अपने अपने पूर्वजों के घरानों के अनुसार, एक एक छड़ी उसे दी, सो बारह छडिय़ां हुई; और उन की छडिय़ों में हारून की भी छड़ी थी।
7 उन छडिय़ों को मूसा ने साक्षीपत्र के तम्बू में यहोवा के साम्हने रख दिया।
8 दूसरे दिन मूसा साक्षीपत्र के तम्बू में गया; तो क्या देखा, कि हारून की छड़ी जो लेवी के घराने के लिये थी उस में कलियां फूट निकली, अर्थात उस में कलियां लगीं, और फूल भी फूले, और पके बादाम भी लगे हैं।
9 सो मूसा उन सब छडिय़ों को यहोवा के साम्हने से निकाल कर सब इस्त्राएलियों के पास ले गया; और उन्होंने अपनी अपनी छड़ी पहिचानकर ले ली।
10 फिर यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, हारून की छड़ी को साक्षीपत्र के साम्हने फिर धर दे, कि यह उन दंगा करने वालों के लिये एक निशान बनकर रखी रहे, कि तू उनका बुड़बुड़ाना जो मेरे विरुद्ध होता रहता है भविष्य में रोक रखे, ऐसा न हो कि वे मर जाएं।
11 और मूसा ने यहोवा की इस आज्ञा के अनुसार ही किया॥
12 तब इस्त्राएली मूसा से कहने लगे, देख, हमारे प्राण निकला चाहते हैं, हम नष्ट हुए, हम सब के सब नष्ट हुए जाते हैं।
13 जो कोई यहोवा के निवास के समीप जाता है वह मारा जाता है। तो क्या हम सब के सब मर ही जाएंगे॥
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod.
3 And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.
4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.
5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.
6 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
7 And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness.
8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.
11 And Moses did so: as the Lord commanded him, so did he.
12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.
13 Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the Lord shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
3 And Moses by the commandment of the Lord sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
4 And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
11 Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
21 So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
22 And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
24 The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
