  1. וַיַּ֥עַן answered ʿānâ אִיּ֗וֹב Then Job ʾiyyôb וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ and said, ʾāmar
  2. שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי I have heard šāmaʿ כְאֵ֣לֶּה such things: ʾēlle רַבּ֑וֹת many rab מְנַחֲמֵ֖י comforters nāḥam עָמָ֣ל miserable ʿāmāl כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃ ye all. kōl
  3. הֲקֵ֥ץ have an end? qēṣ לְדִבְרֵי words dābār ר֑וּחַ Shall vain rûaḥ א֥וֹ or ʾô מַה what יַּ֝מְרִֽיצְךָ֗ emboldeneth māraṣ כִּ֣י thee that תַעֲנֶֽה׃ thou answerest? ʿānâ
  4. גַּ֤ם׀ also gam אָנֹכִי֮ I ʾānōkî כָּכֶ֪ם אֲדַ֫בֵּ֥רָה could speak dābar ל֤וּ as ye if lûʾ יֵ֪שׁ were yēš נַפְשְׁכֶ֡ם your soul nepeš תַּ֤חַת stead, taḥat נַפְשִׁ֗י in my soul's nepeš אַחְבִּ֣ירָה I could heap up ḥābar עֲלֵיכֶ֣ם against ʿal בְּמִלִּ֑ים words millâ וְאָנִ֥יעָה you, and shake nûaʿ עֲ֝לֵיכֶ֗ם ʿal בְּמ֣וֹ at you. bĕmô רֹאשִֽׁי׃ mine head rōš
  5. אֲאַמִּצְכֶ֥ם I would strengthen ʾāmaṣ בְּמוֹ you with bĕmô פִ֑י my mouth, pe וְנִ֖יד and the moving nîd שְׂפָתַ֣י of my lips śāpâ יַחְשֹֽׂךְ׃ should asswage ḥāśak
  6. אִֽם Though ʾim אֲ֭דַבְּרָה I speak, dābar לֹא is not lōʾ יֵחָשֵׂ֣ךְ asswaged: ḥāśak כְּאֵבִ֑י my grief kĕʾēb וְ֝אַחְדְּלָ֗ה and I forbear, ḥādal מַה what מִנִּ֥י min יַהֲלֹֽךְ׃ am I eased? hālak
  7. אַךְ But ʾak עַתָּ֥ה now ʿattâ הֶלְאָ֑נִי he hath made me weary: lāʾâ הֲ֝שִׁמּ֗וֹתָ thou hast made desolate šāmēm כָּל all kōl עֲדָתִֽי׃ my company. ʿēdâ
  8. וַֽ֭תִּקְמְטֵנִי And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, qāmaṭ לְעֵ֣ד a witness ʿēd הָיָ֑ה is hāyâ וַיָּ֥קָם rising up qûm בִּ֥י כַ֝חֲשִׁ֗י and my leanness kaḥaš בְּפָנַ֥י to my face. pānîm יַעֲנֶֽה׃ in me beareth witness ʿānâ
  9. אַפּ֤וֹ in his wrath, ʾap טָרַ֨ף׀ He teareth ṭārap וַֽיִּשְׂטְמֵ֗נִי who hateth śāṭam חָרַ֣ק me: he gnasheth ḥāraq עָלַ֣י upon ʿal בְּשִׁנָּ֑יו me with his teeth; šēn צָרִ֓י׀ mine enemy ṣar יִלְטֹ֖שׁ sharpeneth lāṭaš עֵינָ֣יו his eyes upon me. ʿayin לִֽי׃
  10. פָּעֲר֬וּ They have gaped pāʿar עָלַ֨י׀ upon ʿal בְּפִיהֶ֗ם me with their mouth; pe בְּ֭חֶרְפָּה reproachfully; ḥerpâ הִכּ֣וּ they have smitten nākâ לְחָיָ֑י me upon the cheek lĕḥî יַ֝֗חַד together yaḥad עָלַ֥י against me. ʿal יִתְמַלָּאֽוּן׃ they have gathered themselves mālēʾ
  11. יַסְגִּירֵ֣נִי hath delivered sāgar אֵ֭ל God ʾēl אֶ֣ל me to ʾēl עֲוִ֑יל the ungodly, ʿăwîl וְעַל into ʿal יְדֵ֖י the hands yād רְשָׁעִ֣ים of the wicked. rāšāʿ יִרְטֵֽנִי׃ and turned me over yāraṭ
  12. שָׁ֘לֵ֤ו at ease, šālēw הָיִ֨יתִי׀ I was hāyâ וַֽיְפַרְפְּרֵ֗נִי but he hath broken me asunder: pārar וְאָחַ֣ז he hath also taken ʾāḥaz בְּ֭עָרְפִּי by my neck, ʿōrep וַֽיְפַצְפְּצֵ֑נִי and shaken me to pieces, pûṣ וַיְקִימֵ֥נִי and set me up qûm ל֝֗וֹ לְמַטָּרָֽה׃ for his mark. maṭṭārāʾ
  13. יָ֘סֹ֤בּוּ compass me round about, sābab עָלַ֨י׀ ʿal רַבָּ֗יו His archers rab יְפַלַּ֣ח he cleaveth asunder, pālaḥ כִּ֭לְיוֹתַי my reins kilyâ וְלֹ֣א and doth not lōʾ יַחְמ֑וֹל spare; ḥāmal יִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ he poureth out šāpak לָ֝אָ֗רֶץ upon the ground. ʾereṣ מְרֵרָֽתִי׃ my gall mĕrērâ
  14. יִפְרְצֵ֣נִי He breaketh pāraṣ פֶ֭רֶץ me with breach pereṣ עַל ʿal פְּנֵי upon pānîm פָ֑רֶץ breach, pereṣ יָרֻ֖ץ he runneth rûṣ עָלַ֣י upon ʿal כְּגִבּֽוֹר׃ me like a giant. gibbôr
  15. שַׂ֣ק sackcloth śaq תָּ֭פַרְתִּי I have sewed tāpar עֲלֵ֣י upon ʿal גִלְדִּ֑י my skin, geled וְעֹלַ֖לְתִּי and defiled ʿālal בֶעָפָ֣ר in the dust. ʿāpār קַרְנִֽי׃ my horn qeren
  16. פָּנַ֣י My face pānîm חֳ֭מַרְמְרהּ is foul ḥāmar מִנִּי with min בֶ֑כִי weeping, bĕkî וְעַ֖ל and on ʿal עַפְעַפַּ֣י my eyelids ʿapʿap צַלְמָֽוֶת׃ the shadow of death; ṣalmāwet
  17. עַ֭ל for ʿal לֹא Not lōʾ חָמָ֣ס injustice ḥāmās בְּכַפָּ֑י in mine hands: kap וּֽתְפִלָּתִ֥י also my prayer tĕpillâ זַכָּֽה׃ pure. zak
  18. אֶ֭רֶץ O earth, ʾereṣ אַל not ʾal תְּכַסִּ֣י cover kāsâ דָמִ֑י thou my blood, dām וְֽאַל no ʾal יְהִ֥י have hāyâ מָ֝ק֗וֹם place. māqôm לְזַעֲקָתִֽי׃ and let my cry zaʿaq
  19. גַּם Also gam עַ֭תָּה now, ʿattâ הִנֵּה behold, hinnē בַשָּׁמַ֣יִם in heaven, šāmayim עֵדִ֑י my witness ʿēd וְ֝שָׂהֲדִ֗י and my record śāhēd בַּמְּרֹמִֽים׃ on high. mārôm
  20. מְלִיצַ֥י scorn lûṣ רֵעָ֑י My friends rēaʿ אֶל unto ʾēl אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַ God. ʾĕlôah דָּלְפָ֥ה poureth out dālap עֵינִֽי׃ me: mine eye ʿayin
  21. וְיוֹכַ֣ח O that one might plead yākaḥ לְגֶ֣בֶר for a man geber עִם with ʿim אֱל֑וֹהַּ God, ʾĕlôah וּֽבֶן for his neighbour! bēn אָדָ֥ם as a man ʾādām לְרֵעֵֽהוּ׃ rēaʿ
  22. כִּֽי When שְׁנ֣וֹת years šāne מִסְפָּ֣ר a few mispār יֶאֱתָ֑יוּ are come, ʾātâ וְאֹ֖רַח the way ʾōraḥ לֹא I shall not lōʾ אָשׁ֣וּב return. šûb אֶהֱלֹֽךְ׃ then I shall go hālak
