மோசே தன் கையை வானத்திற்கு நேராக நீட்டினான்; அப்பொழுது எகிப்து தேசமெங்கும் மூன்றுநாள் மட்டும் காரிருள் உண்டாயிற்று.

அது உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் விசாரிக்கிற தேசம், வருஷத்தின் துவக்கமுதல் வருஷத்தின் முடிவுமட்டும் எப்பொழுதும் உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரின் கண்கள் அதின்மேல் வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்.

அது இருளும் அந்தகாரமுமான நாள்; அது மப்பும் மந்தாரமுமான நாள்; விடியற்கால வெளுப்பு பர்வதங்களின்மேல் பரவுகிறதுபோல ஏராளமான பலத்த ஒரு ஜாதி தீவிரமாக வந்து பரவும்; அப்படிப்பட்டது முன்னொரு காலத்திலும் உண்டானதுமில்லை, இனித்தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக வரும் வருஷங்களிலும் உண்டானதுமில்லை.

கர்த்தருடைய நாளை விரும்புகிறவர்களுக்கு ஐயோ! அதினால் உங்களுக்கு என்ன உண்டு? கர்த்தருடைய நாள் வெளிச்சமாயிராமல் அந்தகாரமாயிருக்கும்.

ஆறாம் மணி நேரமுதல் ஒன்பதாம் மணி நேரம் வரைக்கும் பூமியெங்கும் அந்தகாரம் உண்டாயிற்று.

அநேகநாளாய்ச் சூரியனாவது நட்சத்திரங்களாவது காணப்படாமல், மிகுந்த பெருங்காற்றுமழையும் அடித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபடியினால், இனி தப்பிப்பிழைப்போமென்னும் நம்பிக்கை முழுமையும் அற்றுப்போயிற்று.

ஐந்தாம் தூதன் தன் கலசத்திலுள்ளதை மிருகத்தினுடைய சிங்காசனத்தின்மேல் ஊற்றினான்; அப்பொழுது அதின் ராஜ்யம் இருளடைந்தது; அவர்கள் வருத்தத்தினாலே தங்கள் நாவுகளைக் கடித்துக்கொண்டு,
