ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಳು--ನಿನ್ನ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನ ಜೀವದಾಣೆ, ಮಡಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಹಿಡಿ ಹಿಟ್ಟೂ ತಂಬಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ ನನಗೆ ಬೇರೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಇಗೋ, ನಾನೂ ನನ್ನ ಕುಮಾರನೂ ಅದನ್ನು ತಿಂದು ಸತ್ತುಹೋಗುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನನಗೂ ಅವನಿಗೂ ಸಿದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಲು ಎರಡು ಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಅಂದಳು.

ಆದರೆ ಜನರು ಸೌಲನಿಗೆ--ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಯನ್ನುಂಟು ಮಾಡಿದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನು ಸಾಯ ಬಹುದೋ? ಅದು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಆಗದು; ಅವನು ಇಂದು ಕರ್ತನ ಸಹಾಯದ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಡಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕರ್ತನ ಆಣೆ, ಅವನ ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಂದು ಕೂದಲಾದರೂ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೀಳಬಾರದು ಅಂದರು. ಜನರು ಯೋನಾತಾನನನ್ನು ಸಾಯದ ಹಾಗೆ ಬಿಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.

ನನ್ನ ಕುಮಾರನಾದ ಯೋನಾತಾನ ನಿಂದಾದರೂ ಉಂಟಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಸಾಯಲೇ ಸಾಯುವನೆಂದು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಕರ್ತನ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ ಅಂದನು. ಆದರೆ ಸಕಲ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನಾದರೂ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರ ಕೊಡಲಿಲ್ಲ.
