ಸಮುವೇಲನು ದಹನಬಲಿಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸುವಾಗ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಲು ಸವಿಾಪಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರು. ಆಗ ಕರ್ತನು ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಶಬ್ದದಿಂದ ಗುಡುಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸೋಲಿ ಸಿದನು; ಅವರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೊಡೆ ಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು.

| to battle | לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה | lammilḥāmâ | la-meel-ha-MA |
| Israel: against | בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל | bĕyiśrāʾēl | beh-yees-ra-ALE |
| but the Lord | וַיַּרְעֵ֣ם | wayyarʿēm | va-yahr-AME |
| thundered | יְהוָ֣ה׀ | yĕhwâ | yeh-VA |
| with a great | בְּקוֹל | bĕqôl | beh-KOLE |
| thunder | גָּ֠דוֹל | gādôl | ɡA-dole |
| on that | בַּיּ֨וֹם | bayyôm | BA-yome |
| day | הַה֤וּא | hahûʾ | ha-HOO |
| upon | עַל | ʿal | al |
| Philistines, the | פְּלִשְׁתִּים֙ | pĕlištîm | peh-leesh-TEEM |
| and discomfited | וַיְהֻמֵּ֔ם | wayhummēm | vai-hoo-MAME |
| smitten were they and them; | וַיִּנָּֽגְפ֖וּ | wayyinnāgĕpû | va-yee-na-ɡeh-FOO |
