ಅವನು ಜನರನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಅವರನ್ನು ಮೂರು ಗುಂಪುಗಳಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೊಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಂಚಿ ಕೊಂಡನು. ಇಗೋ, ಜನರು ಪಟ್ಟಣದಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅವನು ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಎದ್ದು ಬಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದನು.

| companies, | רָאשִׁ֔ים | rāʾšîm | ra-SHEEM |
| and laid wait | וַיֶּֽאֱרֹ֖ב | wayyeʾĕrōb | va-yeh-ay-ROVE |
| field, the in | בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה | baśśāde | ba-sa-DEH |
| and looked, | וַיַּ֗רְא | wayyar | va-YAHR |
| behold, and, | וְהִנֵּ֤ה | wĕhinnē | veh-hee-NAY |
| the people | הָעָם֙ | hāʿām | ha-AM |
| were come forth | יֹצֵ֣א | yōṣēʾ | yoh-TSAY |
| out of | מִן | min | meen |
| city; the | הָעִ֔יר | hāʿîr | ha-EER |
| and he rose up | וַיָּ֥קָם | wayyāqom | va-YA-kome |
| against | עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם | ʿălêhem | uh-lay-HEM |
| them, and smote | וַיַּכֵּֽם׃ | wayyakkēm | va-ya-KAME |
