ബാബേൽരാജാവു അഹീക്കാമിന്റെ മകനായ ഗെദല്യാവെ ദേശാധിപതിയാക്കിയെന്നും ബാബേലിലേക്കു പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോകാത്ത ദേശത്തിലെ എളിയവരായ പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും പൈതങ്ങളെയും അവനെ ഏല്പിച്ചു എന്നും നാട്ടുപുറത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാപടത്തലവന്മാരും അവരുടെ ആളുകളും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ,

in the fields,	בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה	śāde	sa-DEH
they	הֵ֚מָּה	hēm	hame
and their men,	וְאַנְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם	ʾîš	eesh
that	כִּֽי	kî	kee
governor	הִפְקִ֧יד	pāqad	pa-KAHD
the king	מֶֽלֶךְ	melek	meh-LEK
of Babylon	בָּבֶ֛ל	bābel	ba-VEL
had made	אֶת	ʾēt	ate
Gedaliah	גְּדַלְיָ֥הוּ	gĕddalyâ	ɡeh-dahl-YA
the son	בֶן	bēn	bane
of Ahikam	אֲחִיקָ֖ם	ʾăḥîqām	uh-hee-KAHM
in the land,	בָּאָ֑רֶץ	ʾereṣ	eh-RETS
and	וְכִ֣י׀	kî	kee
had committed	הִפְקִ֣יד	pāqad	pa-KAHD
unto	אִתּ֗וֹ	ʾēt	ate
him men,	אֲנָשִׁ֤ים	ʾîš	eesh
and women,	וְנָשִׁים֙	ʾiššâ	ee-SHA
and children,	וָטָ֔ף	ṭap	tahf
and of the poor	וּמִדַּלַּ֣ת	dallâ	da-LA
of the land,	הָאָ֔רֶץ	ʾereṣ	eh-RETS
of them that	מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר	ʾăšer	uh-SHER
were not	לֹֽא	lōʾ	loh
carried away captive	הָגְל֖וּ	gālâ	ɡa-LA
to Babylon;	בָּבֶֽלָה׃	bābel	ba-VEL
