ദാവീദ് പുരോഹിതന്മാരായ സാദോക്കിനെയും അബ്യാഥാരിനെയും ഊരീയേൽ, അസായാവു, യോവേൽ, ശെമയ്യാവു, എലീയേൽ, അമ്മീനാദാബ് എന്നീ ലേവ്യരെയും വിളിപ്പിച്ചു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതു:

സാദോക്കും അവനോടുകൂടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നിയമപ്പെട്ടകം ചുമന്നുകൊണ്ടു എല്ലാ ലേവ്യരും വന്നു. അവർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം താഴെ വെച്ചു, ജനമൊക്കെയും പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു കടന്നുതീരുംവരെ അബ്യാഥാർ മല കയറി ചെന്നു.

അബ്യാഥാർപുരോഹിതനോടു രാജാവു: നീ അനാഥോത്തിലെ നിന്റെ ജന്മഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊൾക; നീ മരണയോഗ്യനാകുന്നു; എങ്കിലും നീ എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ദാവീദിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കർത്താവായ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം ചുമന്നതുകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ അപ്പൻ അനുഭവിച്ച സകലകഷ്ടങ്ങളെയും നീ കൂടെ അനുഭവിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടും ഞാൻ ഇന്നു നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
