ഷണ്ഡാധിപൻ അവർക്കു പേരിട്ടു; ദാനീയേലിന്നു അവർ ബേൽത്ത് ശസ്സർ എന്നും ഹനന്യവിന്നു ശദ്രക്ക് എന്നും മീശായേലിന്നു മേശക്ക് എന്നും അസർയ്യാവിന്നു അബേദ്-നെഗോ എന്നും പേരുവിളിച്ചു.

ഷണ്ഡാധിപൻ ദാനീയേലിനോടു: നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭക്ഷണവും പാനീയവും നിയമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ഞാൻ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു; അവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം നിങ്ങളുടെ സമപ്രായക്കാരായ ബാലന്മാരുടേതിനോടു ഒത്തുനോക്കിയാൽ മെലിഞ്ഞുകാണുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അങ്ങനെയായാൽ നിങ്ങൾ രാജസന്നിധിയിൽ എന്റെ തലെക്കു അപകടം വരുത്തും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
