1 As a number of attempts have been made to put together in order an account of those events which took place among us,प्रिय थियोफिलस, किनभने धेरै मानिलहरूले हाम्रा बीचमा घटेका घटनाहरूकाबिषयमा इतिहास लेख्ने चेष्टा गरेका छन्।

2 As they were handed down to us by those who saw them from the first and were preachers of the word,तिनीहरूले ती कुराहरू नै लेखेका छन् जुन कुराहरू शुरूदेखि नै हामीलाई ती मानिसहरू जो साक्षीहरू र परमेश्वरका संदेशको सेवकहरूले बताउँदै आएका छन्।

3 It seemed good to me, having made observation, with great care, of the direction of events in their order, to put the facts in writing for you, most noble Theophilus;हे माननीय म आफैंले शुरूदेखि नै होशियार साथ सबै कुराहरूको अध्ययन गरेको छु। त्यसैले, मैले सोचें मैले पनि तिमाहरूको लागि क्रमानुसार यी कुराहरू लेख्नै पर्छ। यसैले, मैले

4 So that you might have certain knowledge of those things about which you were given teaching.तिमीहरूलाई बुझाउनको लागि जुन तिमीहरूले सिकेकाछौ त्यही कुराहरू नै सत्य हो भन्न, मैले यी कुराहरू लेखेको छु।

5 In the days of Herod, king of Judaea, there was a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the order of Abijah; and he had a wife of the family of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.यहूदामा हेरोदको शासन कालमा जकरिया नाउँ गरेका एकजना पूजाहारी थिए। जकरिया अबियाका पूजाहारी समूहका थिए। जकरियाकी पत्नी हारून वंशकी थिईन्। तिनको नाउँ इलीशिबा थियो।

6 They were upright in the eyes of God, keeping all the rules and orders of God, and doing no wrong.ती दुवै जकरिया र इलीशिबा परमेश्वर समक्ष असल मानिस थिए। जहाँ सम्म परमप्रभुको जम्मै आज्ञा र नियमहरूको सम्बन्ध छ तिनीहरू निष्कलंक थिए।

7 And they were without children, because Elisabeth had never given birth, and they were at that time very old.तर जकरिया र इलीशिबा निःसन्तान थिए। इलीशिबा गर्भवती हुन सकिनन्, कारण तिनीहरू दुवै बृद्ध भइसकेका थिए।

8 Now it came about that in his turn he was acting as priest before God,जब उनको समूहको सेवा गर्ने पालो थियो जकरियाले परमेश्वर अघि मानिसहरूको सेवा पूजाहारी भएर गरे। यस्तै उनको समूहको सेवा गर्ने समय थियो। परमेश्वर

9 And as was the way of the priests, he had to go into the Temple to see to the burning of perfumes.पूजाहारीहरूले संधैं एकजना पूजाहारीलाई धूप दिने गर्दथे। जकरिया यस्तै काम गर्ने छानिएको थिए। यसकारण उनले परमप्रभुको मन्दिरमा धूप जनाउनु पर्थ्यो।

10 And all the people were offering prayers outside, at the time of the burning of perfumes.त्यहाँ जम्मै उपासकहरू बाहिर एकत्रित भएका थिए। धूप दिइएकै बेला तिनीहरू प्रार्थना गर्नमा तल्लीन थिए।

11 And he saw an angel of the Lord in his place on the right side of the altar.त्यसपछि धूप जलिरहेको दाहिनेपट्टि परमप्रभुको एउटा स्वर्गदूत जकरियाको अघि उभिएका थिए।

12 And Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear came on him.जब उनले स्वर्गदूतलाई देख्यो, जकरिया भ्रममा परे र डरले आत्तिए।

13 But the angel said, Have no fear, Zacharias, for your prayer has come to the ears of God, and your wife Elisabeth will have a son, and his name will be John.ती स्वर्गदूतले जकरियालाई भने, “जकरिया, नडराऊ। तिम्रो प्रार्थनालाई परमेश्वरले सुनिदिनु भएकोछ। तिम्री पत्नी इलीशिबाले एउटा पुत्र जन्म दिनेछन्। उनको नाउँ तिमीले यूहन्ना राखिदिनु।

14 And you will be glad and have great delight; and numbers of people will have joy at his birth.तिनेले तिमीहरूमा आनन्द र खुशीयाली ल्याउनेछन्। तिनको जन्मले धेरै धेरै मानिसहरूमा सुख ल्याउनेछ।

15 For he will be great in the eyes of the Lord; he will not take wine or strong drink; and he will be full of the Spirit of God from his birth.परमप्रभुको सामुन्ने यूहन्ना तिनी एकजना महान मानिस बनिनेछन्। तिनले दाखरस अथवा मदिरा कदापि लिने छैन। तिनको जन्मबाट नै तिनी पवित्र आत्माले भरिएको हुनेछन्।

16 And through him great numbers of the children of Israel will be turned to the Lord their God.तिनी धेरै यहूदीहरूलाई परमप्रभु तिनीहरू परमेश्वरतिर खिंच्ने माध्यम हुनेछन्।

17 And he will go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, turning the hearts of fathers to their children, and wrongdoers to the way of righteousness; to make ready a people whose hearts have been turned to the Lord.तिनी आफैं अग्रदूत झैं परमप्रभुको अघि अघि जानेछन्। एलिया जस्तै तिनी पनि शक्ति सम्पन्न मानिस हुनेछन्। एलियामा भएकै आत्मा उनमा पनि हुनेछ। बाबुहरू र छोरा-छोरीहरू माझ उनले नै शान्ति बनाई राख्नेछन्। तिनीहरू जसले परमेश्वरको आज्ञा पालन गर्दैनन् त्यस्ताहरूलाई धार्मिक मानिसहरूलाई जस्तै सोंच्ने बानउनेछन्। परमप्रभुको आगमनका निम्ति मानिसहरूलाई उनले नै तयारी पार्नेछन्।”

18 And Zacharias said to the angel, How may I be certain of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is far on in years.जकरियाले स्वर्गदूतलाई भने, “यो कुरा साँचो हो भनेर म कसरी निश्चित हुनु? म एउटा बूढो मानिस हुँ, अनि मेरी पत्नी पनि बुढी नै छिन्?

19 And the angel, answering, said, I am Gabriel, whose place is before God; I have been sent to say these words to you and to give you this good news.ती स्वर्गदूतले जवाफ दिए, “म गब्रिएल हुँ। म परमेश्वरको अघि खडा रहन्छु। परमेश्वरले नै मलाई तिमीसित कुरा गर्न र यिनै खुशीको सुसमाचार दिन पठाउनु भएको हो।

20 Now, see, you will be without voice or language till the day when these things come about, because you had not faith in my words, which will have effect at the right time.अब सुन। यी कुराहरू पूरा नहुन्जेल सम्म तिमी लाटो हुनेछौ र बोल्न सक्नेछैनौ। किन? किनभने मैले भनेको कुराहरू जो आफ्नो समयमा सत्य हुनेछ तिमीले विश्वास गरेका छैर्नों।”

21 And the people were waiting for Zacharias and were surprised because he was in the Temple for such a long time.बाहिरपट्टि, मानिसहरूले जकरियालाई र्पखिरहेका थिए। मन्दिरमा यति लामो समय सम्म बसेको देखेर तिनीहरू छक्क परिरहेका थिए।

22 And when he came out he was not able to say anything, and they saw that he had seen a vision in the Temple; and he was making signs to them without words.त्यसपछि जकरिया बाहिर आए, तर उनी बोल्न नसक्ने भएका थिए। उनी ती मानिसहरूका अघि देखा मात्र पर्न सक्थे। तब तिनीहरूले उनले मन्दिरभित्र केही दर्शन पाएको चाल पाए। उनले तिनीहरूसित इशारा मात्र गरिरहे अनि लाटा झैं बसिरहे।

23 And when the days of his work in the Temple were ended, he went back to his house.जब जकरियाको सेवाको दिन पूरा भयो, तिनी आफ्नो घरतिर लागे।

24 After that time, Elisabeth, being certain that she was to become a mother, kept herself from men's eyes for five months, saying,केही समय पछि जकरियाको पत्नी इलीशिबा गर्भवती भइन्। अनि पाँच महीनासम्म उनी घरदेखि बाहिर निस्किनन्। इलीशिबाले भनिन्,

25 The Lord has done this to me, for his eyes were on me, to take away my shame in the eyes of men.हेर, मलाई परमप्रभुले के गर्नुभएको छ। उहाँले मेरो एउटा नानी जन्मियोस् भनी निर्णय लिनु भयो। परमप्रभुले ममाथि यति कृपा गर्नु भयो कि अब उसो मानिसहरूको सामुन्नेबाट मलाई लाज मुक्त पार्नु भयो।”

26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town in Galilee, named Nazareth,इलीशिबाको छैटौं महीनामा, गालीको एउटा शहर नासरतमा बस्ने एउटी कन्याकहाँ परमेश्वरले एउटा गब्रिएल नाउँ गरेको दुतलाई पठाउनु भयो।

27 To a virgin who was to be married to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.तिनी दाऊदको परिवारको यूसुफ नाउँ गरेको एक मानिससँग मगनी भएकी थिइन्। ती कन्याको नाउँ मरियम थियो।

28 And the angel came in to her and said, Peace be with you, to whom special grace has been given; the Lord is with you.ती स्वर्गदूत मरियमकहाँ गए अनि भने, “शुभकामना छ। परमप्रभु तिमीसितै हुनुहुन्छ। तिमी उहाँको खुवै प्रिय छौ।”

29 But she was greatly troubled at his words, and said to herself, What may be the purpose of these words?तर त्यो स्वर्गदूतले भनेका यी कुराहरूमा मरियम खुबै विचलित भइन्। मरियम छक्क परिन् र भनिन् “यो अभिवादन को अर्थ के हो?”

30 And the angel said to her, Have no fear, Mary, for you have God's approval.ती दूतले उनलाई भने, “डराउनु पर्दैन मरियम, किनभने परमेश्वर तिमीसित अत्यन्त खुशी हुनुहुन्छ।

31 And see, you will give birth to a son, and his name will be Jesus.सुन! तिमी गर्भवती हुनेछौ अनि तिमीले एउटा छोरो जन्माउनेछौ। अनि उहाँको नाउँ तिमीले येशू राख्नु।

32 He will be great, and will be named the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his father:उहाँ महान् हुनुहुनेछ र सर्वोच्च परमेश्वरका पुत्र कहलाईनु हुनेछ। परमप्रभु परमेश्वरले उहाँलाई उहाँको पुर्खा दाऊदको सिंहासन दिनुहुनेछ।

33 He will have rule over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.उहाँले याकूबका घरानामाथि सँधैंका लागि शासन गर्नुहुनेछ। येशूको राज्यको अन्त्य कहिल्यै हुनेछैन।”

34 And Mary said to the angel, How may this be, because I have had no knowledge of a man?मरियमले ती स्वर्गदूतलाई भनिन्, “म कन्या नै छु, यस्तो कसरी हुन सक्छ?”

35 And the angel in answer said to her, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will come to rest on you, and so that which will come to birth will be named holy, Son of God.ती स्वर्गदूतले मरियमलाई भने, “पवित्र आत्मा तिमीमाथि आउनुहुनेछ अनि सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वरको शक्तिले तिमीलाई ढाकनेछ। यसकारणले जो जन्मनुहुन्छ उहाँ परमेश्वरको पुत्र कहलाइनु हुनेछ।

36 Even now Elisabeth, who is of your family, is to be a mother, though she is old: and this is the sixth month with her who was without children.यस विषयमा ध्यान देऊः तिम्रो आफन्त इलीशिबा पनि गर्भवती छिन् तिनको अवस्था वृद्ध अनि बाँझी कहलाइए पनि अहिले तिनी छ महीनाबाट गर्भवती भएकी छिन्।

37 For there is nothing which God is not able to do.किनभने परमेश्वर जस्तै कुरो पनि गर्न सक्नुहुन्छ।”

38 And Mary said: I am the servant of the Lord; may it be to me as you say. And the angel went away.मरियमले भनिन् “म परमप्रभुकी दासी हुँ। तपाईंले भने जस्तो ममाथि घट्न सक्छ।” त्यसपछि दूत उनीबाट विदा भए।

39 Then Mary got up and went quickly into the high lands, to a town of Judah;लगत्तै मरियम तयारी भइन् अनि यहूदिया गाउँको पहाडी शहरमा हत्तारिएर गइन्।

40 And went into the house of Zacharias and took Elisabeth in her arms.तिनी जकरियाको घरमा गईन् अनि इलीशिबालाई शुभकामना दिईन्।

41 And when the voice of Mary came to the ears of Elisabeth, the baby made a sudden move inside her; then Elisabeth was full of the Holy Spirit,जब इलीशिबाले मरियमको शुभकामना सुनिन्, तब तिनको गर्भको नानी उफ्रियो। अनि इलीशिबा पवित्र आत्माद्वारा भरिपूर्ण भइन्।

42 And she said with a loud voice: May blessing be on you among women, and a blessing on the child of your body.तिनले जोरले चिच्याएर भनीन्, “अरू स्त्रीहरूलाई भन्दा परमेश्वरले तिमीलाई धेरै आशीर्वाद दिनुभएकोछ। अनि गर्भमा रहेको नानी पनि त्यस्तै अनुग्रहित छ।

43 How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to me?यस्तो कसरी हुन सक्यो कि मेरा परमप्रभुकि आमा मेरोमा आउनु परयो?

44 For, truly, when the sound of your voice came to my ears, the baby in my body made a sudden move for joy.जब मैले तिम्रो अभिवादन सुने, मेरो गर्भमा भएको बालक र्हषले उफ्रि्यो।

45 Happy will she be who had faith that the things which the Lord has said to her will be done.तिमीलाई आशीर्वाद छ किनभने परमप्रभुले तिमीलाई भन्नु भएको कुरा पूरा हुनेछ भन्ने तिमीमा विश्वास थियो।”

46 And Mary said: My soul gives glory to God;त्यसपछि मरियमले भनिन्

47 My spirit is glad in God my Saviour.मेरो आत्माले परमप्रभुको प्रशंसा गर्दछ, अनि मेरो हृदय परमेश्वरमा आनन्दित हुँदछ जो मेरा मुक्तिदाता हुनुहुन्छ।

48 For he has had pity on his servant, though she is poor and lowly placed: and from this hour will all generations give witness to the blessing which has come to me.किनभने उहाँले आफ्नो दीन दासी प्रति कृपा गर्नु भयो, अब उप्रान्त सबै मानसहरूले मलाई अनुग्रहित मान्नेछन्,

49 For he who is strong has done great things for me; and holy is his name.किनभने सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वरले मेरो निम्ति ठूला कार्याहरू गर्नुभएको छ। उहाँकोे नाउँ पवित्र होस्।

50 His mercy is for all generations in whom is the fear of him.जसले परमेश्वरलाई उपासना गर्छ उसको पुस्तौं सम्म उहाँ दयालु हुनुहुन्छ।

51 With his arm he has done acts of power; he has put to flight those who have pride in their hearts.उहाँले आफ्नो बाहुबलद्वारा शक्ति प्रदर्शन गर्नु भएकोछ। उहाँले घमण्डीहरूलाई तिनीहरूको धनहरूको घमण्ड नष्ट गरिदिनु भएकोछ।

52 He has put down kings from their seats, lifting up on high the men of low degree.उहाँले शक्तिशाली शासकहरूलाई सिंहासनबाट हटाउनुभएको छ, अनि नम्रहरूलाई उचाल्नु भएकोछ।

53 Those who had no food he made full of good things; the men of wealth he sent away with nothing in their hands;उहाँले भोकाहरूलाई असल खाद्यहरूले तृप्त पार्नु भएकोछ। तर स्वार्थी र धनीहरूलाई रित्तै हात पठाई दिनु भएकोछ।

54 His help he has given to Israel, his servant, so that he might keep in mind his mercy to Abraham and his seed for ever,उहाँ आफ्नो दास इस्राएललाई सहायता गर्न आउनष्ठ्वु भएकोछ। उहाँले हामीलाई उहाँको कृपा दिनु भएकोछ।

55 As he gave his word to our fathers.उहाँले अब्राहाम र उनका सन्तानलाई दया गर्न हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई दिएको वचन अनुसार सम्झनु भयो।”

56 And Mary was with her for about three months and then went back to her house.मरियम इलीशिबा संग प्रायः तीन महीनासम्म बसिन्।त्यसपछि घर र्फकिन्।

57 Now it was time for Elisabeth to give birth, and she had a son.इलीशिबाको सुत्केरी हुने समय भयो अनि तिनले एउटा छोरो जन्माइन्।

58 And it came to the ears of her neighbours and relations that the Lord had been very good to her, and they took part in her joy.तिनका छिमेकीहरू र आफन्तहरूले तिनीप्रति परमप्रभु परमेश्वरले अति नै अनुग्रह देखाएको सुनेका थिए। तिनीहरू मरियमसंग खुशी थिए।

59 And on the eighth day they came to see to the circumcision of the child, and they would have given him the name of Zacharias, his father's name;बालक आठ दिनको भएपछि तिनीहरू उसको खतना गर्न आए। तिनीहरूले उसको नाउँ जकरिया राख्न चाहान्थे किनभने यो उसकै बाबूको नाउँ थियो।

60 But his mother made answer and said, No, his name is John.तर उसकी आमाले भनिन्, होइन, उसको नाउँ यूहन्ना हुनेछ।”

61 And they said, Not one of your relations has that name.मानसहरूले इलीशिबालाई भने, “तर तिमीहरूको परिवारमा यस्तो नाउँ भएको कोही छैन।”

62 And they made signs to his father, to say what name was to be given to him.त्यसपछि तिनीहरूले तिनका बाबुलाई संकेत गरे, “तिमीले यसको नाउँ के राख्ने इच्छा गरेका छौ?”

63 And he sent for writing materials and put down: His name is John; and they were all surprised.जकरियाले केही लेख्न पाटी माँगे। तब उसले लेखिदिए, “उसको नाउँ यहून्ना हो।” तिनीहरू छक्क परे।

64 And straight away his mouth was open and his tongue was free and he gave praise to God.त्यही बेला जकरियाको मुख खोलियो। उसको जिब्रो फुट्‌यो अनि उनी बोल्न थाले। उनले परमेश्वरको प्रशंसा गरे।

65 And fear came on all those who were living round about them: and there was much talk about all these things in all the hill-country of Judaea.अनि उनको सबै छिमेकीहरू डराए। यहूदियाको पहाडी क्षेत्रका बासिन्दाहरू यस विषयमा कुराहरू गर्न थाले।

66 And all who had word of them kept them in their minds and said, What will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.जम्मै मानिसहरू ज-जसले यी कुराहरू सुने तिनीहरू निकै प्रभावित भए “यो केटो पछि के बनिन्छ होला भनेर सोच्न थाले?” परमप्रभु त्यस बालकसित हुनाले त्यस्तो सोचिएको थियो।जकरियाद्वारा परमेश्वरको प्रशंसा

67 And his father, Zacharias, was full of the Holy Spirit, and with the voice of a prophet said these words:त्यसपछि यूहन्नाको बाबु जकरियामा पवित्र आत्मा आउनु भयो। अनि तिनले यस्तो अगमवाणी दिन थालेः

68 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has come to his people and made them free,इस्राएलका परमप्रभु परमेश्वरको प्रशंसा गर कारण उहाँले आफ्ना मानिसहरूलाई सहायता गर्नु भयो अनि तिनीहरूलाई स्वतन्त्रता दिनुभयो।

69 Lifting up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,परमेश्वरकै सेवक दाऊदका बंशबाट उहाँले हामीलाई शक्तिशाली मुक्तिदाता दिनु भएको छ।

70 (As he said, by the mouth of his holy prophets, from the earliest times,)उहाँले भन्नु भएको थियो कि उहाँले यी सब गर्नु हुनेछ। धेरै अघिनै उहाँका पवित्र अगमवक्ताहरूबाट उहाँले यी सब कुराहरू भन्नु भएको हो।

71 Salvation from those who are against us, and from the hands of those who have hate for us;उहाले हामीलाई शत्रुहरूदेखि अनि हामीलाई घृणागर्ने शक्तिहरूदेखि जोगाउनु भएको छ।

72 To do acts of mercy to our fathers and to keep in mind his holy word,उहाँले हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई दया गर्नेछु भन्नु भएकोछ। उहाँले पवित्र करार पनि स्मरण गर्नु भएकोछ।

73 The oath which he made to Abraham, our father,उहाँले हाम्रा पुर्खा अब्राहामको अघि शपथ खानु भएकोछ।

74 That we, being made free from the fear of those who are against us, might give him worship,उहाँले हामीलाई हाम्रो शत्रुहरूको पञ्जाबाट स्वतन्त्र राख्ने शपथ लिनु भएकोछ औ हामीलाई निर्भयपूर्वक उहाँको सेवामा राख्नु हुनेछ।

75 In righteousness and holy living before him all our days.जब सम्म हामी जीवित रहन्छौ हामी पवित्र अनि परमेश्वर अघि सही मार्गमा रहनेछौं।

76 And you, child, will be named the prophet of the Most High: you will go before the face of the Lord, to make ready his ways;ए बालक तिमी महामहिमाको अगमवक्ता कहलाइनेछौ। उहाँको आगमनको मार्ग तयारी पार्न तिमी सर्वप्रथम परमेश्वरको अघि जानेछौ।

77 To give knowledge of salvation to his people, through the forgiveness of sins,तिमीले उहाँका मानिसहरूलाई तिनीहरूको पापहरूबाट क्षमा पाएर कसरी बाँच्ने त्यो जान्न दिनेछौ।

78 Because of the loving mercies of our God, by which the dawn from heaven has come to us,परमेश्वरको प्रेमपूर्ण करूणा पाएर हाम्रा निम्ति स्वर्गबाट एउटा नयाँ उज्यालो दिन चम्कनेछ।

79 To give light to those in dark places, and in the shade of death, so that our feet may be guided into the way of peace.उहाँले अन्धकारमा बसेका, मृत्युको डरमा परेकाहरूलाई मदत गर्नु हुनेछ। उहाँले हामीलाई शान्तिको मार्गतिर पथ-प्रदर्शन गर्नु हुनेछ।”

80 And the child became tall, and strong in spirit; and he was living in the waste land till the day when he came before the eyes of Israel.यसरी नै ती बालक बढदै गए र आत्मामा शक्तिमान हुँदै गए। जबसम्म इस्राएलमा मानिसहरूलाई शिक्षा दिन तिनी आएनन् त्यत्तिबेला सम्म यूहन्ना मानिसहरूदेखि टाडा भएर बसे।
