1 ਕੀ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ? ਇੱਕ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਯਿਸੂ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗਿਆ। ਉੱਥੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।

2 ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਲੋਧਰੀ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

3 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਗਲਤ?”

4 ਪਰ ਉਹ ਚੁੱਪ ਵੱਟੀ ਰਹੇ। ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੜਕੇ, ਰਾਜੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿਤਾ।

5 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਜਾਨਵਰ, ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਝੱਟ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲਵੋਂਗੇ।”

6 ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਉਸਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਨਾ ਦੇ ਸੱਕੇ, ਜੋ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ।

7 ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਨਾ ਸਮਝੋ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਉਸ ਖਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ ਤੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਚੁਣ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦਿੱਤਾ,

8 “ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੀਆ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੇਜਬਾਨ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ।

9 ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੀਆ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੋ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਜਬਾਨ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਣਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖੇ, ‘ਆਪਣੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਉ!’ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਪਮਾਣਿਤਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

10 “ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਬੁਲਾਵਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜਾਵੋ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੋ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਆਮ ਹੋਵੇ ਖਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖੇਗਾ, ‘ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵੱਧ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ।’ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

11 ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਿਮ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”

12 ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ, “ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਦੁਪਿਹਰ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਲਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ, ਭਰਾਵਾਂ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੱਦਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੀ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਂਗਾ।

13 ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਦਾਵਤ ਦੇਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ, ਲੰਗੜਿਆਂ, ਟੁੰਡਿਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦੇ।

14 ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਦਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਧਰਮੀ ਲੋਕ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੀਅ ਉੱਠਣਗੇ ਤਦ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਫ਼ਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”

15 ਵੱਡੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਯਿਸੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਜ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਧੰਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਵੇਗਾ।”

16 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਾਅਵਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

17 ਜਦੋਂ ਖਾਣ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ‘ਆ ਜਾਵੋ! ਖਾਣਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ।’

18 ਪਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦੇ। ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਾਨਾ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਪਹਿਲੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣੇ-ਹੁਣੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਖਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਜਾਕੇ ਵੇਖਣੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰਨਾ।’

19 ਦੂਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਬਲਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਜ ਜੋੜੀਆਂ ਹੁਣੇ-ਹੁਣੇ ਖਰੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰੋ।’

20 ਤੀਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੇਰਾ ਹੁਣੇ-ਹੁਣੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦਾ।’

21 “ਇਉਂ ਨੌਕਰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਕੋਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਰਤਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਾਲ ਜਾ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ। ਤਾਂ ਮਾਲਕ ਬੜਾ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ, ‘ਜਲਦੀ ਕਰੋ! ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ, ਟੁੰਡਿਆਂ, ਲੰਗਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਦਾਵਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੈ ਆਓ।’

22 “ਬਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੇ ਆਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮਾਲਕ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੈਂ ਓਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ, ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਥਾਂ ਖਾਲੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।’

23 ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਰਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

24 ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ।’”

25 ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਵਸ਼ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਨਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਯਿਸੂ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਡੀ ਭੀੜ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਮੁੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ।

26 “ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਮਾਤਾ, ਪਤਨੀ, ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ। ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

27 ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਲੀਬ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ।

28 “ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਸੋਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਖਰਚਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਲਗਾਉਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਾਸ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਧਨ ਹੈ।

29 ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੰਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਵਾ ਲਵੋ ਪਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੋ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖੇਗਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਸਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

30 ਉਹ ਆਖਣਗੇ ‘ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਾ।’

31 “ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਜੰਗ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਸੋਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਸ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੈਨਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਵੀਹ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੈਨਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?

32 ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੂਜੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਰਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁਝ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜੇਗਾ।

33 “ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਨਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਛੱਡਣੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦੇ।

34 ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਾ ਛੱਡੋ “ਲੂਣ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਲੂਣਾਪਣ ਗੁਆ ਲਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਇਹ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਲੂਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦੇ।

35 ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਲਈ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਦ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। “ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਨਣ ਦਿਉ।”

1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

6 And they could not answer him again to these things.

7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

1 ਕੀ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ? ਇੱਕ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਯਿਸੂ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗਿਆ। ਉੱਥੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।

2 ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਲੋਧਰੀ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

3 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਗਲਤ?”

4 ਪਰ ਉਹ ਚੁੱਪ ਵੱਟੀ ਰਹੇ। ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੜਕੇ, ਰਾਜੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿਤਾ।

5 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਜਾਨਵਰ, ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਝੱਟ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲਵੋਂਗੇ।”

6 ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਉਸਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਨਾ ਦੇ ਸੱਕੇ, ਜੋ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ।

7 ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਨਾ ਸਮਝੋ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਉਸ ਖਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ ਤੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਚੁਣ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦਿੱਤਾ,

8 “ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੀਆ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੇਜਬਾਨ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ।

9 ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧੀਆ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੋ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਜਬਾਨ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਣਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖੇ, ‘ਆਪਣੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਉ!’ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਪਮਾਣਿਤਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

10 “ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਬੁਲਾਵਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜਾਵੋ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੋ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਆਮ ਹੋਵੇ ਖਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖੇਗਾ, ‘ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵੱਧ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਣ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ।’ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

11 ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਿਮ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਮ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”

12 ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ, “ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਦੁਪਿਹਰ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਲਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ, ਭਰਾਵਾਂ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੱਦਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੀ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਂਗਾ।

13 ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਦਾਵਤ ਦੇਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ, ਲੰਗੜਿਆਂ, ਟੁੰਡਿਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦੇ।

14 ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਦਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਧਰਮੀ ਲੋਕ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੀਅ ਉੱਠਣਗੇ ਤਦ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਫ਼ਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”

15 ਵੱਡੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਯਿਸੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਜ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਧੰਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਵੇਗਾ।”

16 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਾਅਵਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

17 ਜਦੋਂ ਖਾਣ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ‘ਆ ਜਾਵੋ! ਖਾਣਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ।’

18 ਪਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦੇ। ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਾਨਾ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਪਹਿਲੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣੇ-ਹੁਣੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਖਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਜਾਕੇ ਵੇਖਣੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰਨਾ।’

19 ਦੂਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਬਲਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਜ ਜੋੜੀਆਂ ਹੁਣੇ-ਹੁਣੇ ਖਰੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰੋ।’

20 ਤੀਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੇਰਾ ਹੁਣੇ-ਹੁਣੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦਾ।’

21 “ਇਉਂ ਨੌਕਰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਕੋਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਰਤਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਾਲ ਜਾ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ। ਤਾਂ ਮਾਲਕ ਬੜਾ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ, ‘ਜਲਦੀ ਕਰੋ! ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ, ਟੁੰਡਿਆਂ, ਲੰਗਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਦਾਵਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੈ ਆਓ।’

22 “ਬਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੇ ਆਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮਾਲਕ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੈਂ ਓਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ, ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਥਾਂ ਖਾਲੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।’

23 ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਰਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

24 ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਨਿਉਂਤਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ।’”

25 ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਵਸ਼ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਨਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਯਿਸੂ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਡੀ ਭੀੜ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਮੁੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ।

26 “ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਮਾਤਾ, ਪਤਨੀ, ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ। ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

27 ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਲੀਬ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ।

28 “ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਸੋਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਖਰਚਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਲਗਾਉਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਾਸ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਧਨ ਹੈ।

29 ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੰਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਵਾ ਲਵੋ ਪਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੋ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖੇਗਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਸਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

30 ਉਹ ਆਖਣਗੇ ‘ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਾ।’

31 “ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਜੰਗ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਸੋਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਸ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੈਨਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਵੀਹ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੈਨਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?

32 ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੂਜੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਰਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁਝ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜੇਗਾ।

33 “ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਨਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਛੱਡਣੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦੇ।

34 ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਾ ਛੱਡੋ “ਲੂਣ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਲੂਣਾਪਣ ਗੁਆ ਲਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਇਹ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਲੂਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦੇ।

35 ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਲਈ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਦ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। “ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਨਣ ਦਿਉ।”

1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

6 And they could not answer him again to these things.

7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
