Mark 2
1 ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਅਧਰੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਪੀੜਤ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਨਾ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਬਾਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਕਫ਼ਰਨਾਹੂਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਝੱਟ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਖਬਰ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਫ਼ੈਲ ਗਈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਾਪਸ ਘਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
2 ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਨਣ ਲਈ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਸੀ ਓੱਥੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
3 ਇੱਕ ਅਧਰੰਗੀ ਮਰੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਏ।
4 ਪਰ ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਤੱਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸੱਕੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਘਰ ਭੀੜ ਨਾਲ ਖਚਾ-ਖੱਚ ਭਰਿਆ ਸੀ। ਫ਼ਿਰ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਛੱਤ ਉੱਪਰ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਸੀ ਛਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਘਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੰਜੇ ਸਮੇਤ ਮੋਘੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
5 ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਧਰੰਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਾਫ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।”
6 ਕੁਝ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਉੱਥੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕਰਦੇ ਵੇਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿੱਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ,
7 “ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ? ਇਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਪ ਮਾਫ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ।”
8 ਯਿਸੂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਉਂ ਸੋਚ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਝ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚਾਰ ਪਏ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ?
9 ਕੀ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ਹੈ? ਇਸ ਅਧਰੰਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਖਣਾ, ‘ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਾਫ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।’ ਜਾਂ ਇਹ ਆਖਣਾ, ‘ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ, ਆਪਣਾ ਬਿਸਤਰਾ ਲੈ ਤੇ ਜਾ?’
10 ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕੋਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਾਫ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਖਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ।” ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਧਰੰਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ,
11 “ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉੱਠ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਿਸਤਰਾ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਜਾ।”
12 ਉਹ ਅਧਰੰਗੀ ਉੱਠਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੰਜੀ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋਏ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਜਨਕ ਗੱਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖੀ।”
13 ਲੇਵੀ ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਯਿਸੂ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਆਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
14 ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਝੀਲ ਕੰਢੇ ਤੁਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਲਫ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਲੇਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਸੂਲ ਦੀ ਚੌਂਕੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹੋ ਤੁਰ।” ਤਾਂ ਲੇਵੀ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹੋ ਤੁਰਿਆ।
15 ਬਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਯਿਸੂ ਲੇਵੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਣ ਬੈਠਾ ਤਾਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਸੂਲੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਵੀ ਯਿਸੂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਭੀੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
16 ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੇ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਿ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਸਨ, ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਸੂਲੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਯਿਸੂ ਮਸੂਲੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਲਕੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ?”
17 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੰਦਰੁਸਤ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੈਦ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਉਹ ਰੋਗੀ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੈਦ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਧਰਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ ਸਗੋਂ ਮੈ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।”
18 ਯਿਸੂ ਬਾਕੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ। ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੋਲ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗੇ, “ਇਸਦਾ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ਪਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਵਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ?”
19 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਦੋਂ ਲਾੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਨੇਤੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਭਲਾ ਉਹ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਉਹ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਲਾੜਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖ ਸੱਕਦੇ।
20 ਪਰ ਇੱਕ ਸਮਾਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਲਾੜਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ, ਉਹ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਣਗੇ।
21 “ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨਸੁੰਗੜ੍ਹੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੀ ਟਾਕੀ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ। ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੀ ਨਵੀਂ ਟਾਕੀ ਸੁੰਗੜ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਟ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਵੱਡਿਆਂ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ।
22 ਇੰਝ ਹੀ, ਲੋਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਮੈਅ ਪੁਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਮਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਵੀਂ ਮੈਅ ਪੁਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਮਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾੜ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ, ਨਵੀਂ ਮੈਅ ਅਤੇ ਮਸ਼ਕਾਂ, ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ। ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਲੋਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਦਾਖਰਸ ਨਵੀਂਆਂ ਮਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।”
23 ਕੁਝ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ, ਯਿਸੂ ਅਨਾਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ। ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲੰਘਦਿਆਂ, ਚੇਲੇ ਸਿੱਟੇ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਖਾਣ ਲਗੇ।
24 ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਤੇਰੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਇੰਝ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ? ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਇਵੇਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਨੇਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਗਲਤ ਹੈ।”
25 ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਭਲਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਕਿ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਦੋਂ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਸੀ।
26 ਇਹ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਬਯਾਥਾਰ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਸੀ। ਉਦੋਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੇ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਖਾ ਲਈਆਂ। ਜਦ ਕਿ ਮੂਸਾ ਦਾ ਨੇਮ, ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਜਾਜਕ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ।”
27 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਬਤ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਬਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਬਤ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ।
28 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।”
1 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
1 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
2 And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?
3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.
4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:
5 And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders.
6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.
7 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,
8 And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.
9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
10 And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
11 And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.
12 And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.
13 Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
16 And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.
19 And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.
20 In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.
21 So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.
22 Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.
23 So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.
