ਕਜ਼ਾૃ 7
1 ਅਗਲੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਸੁਵਖਤੇ, ਯਰੁੱਬਆਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਰੋਦ ਦੇ ਝਰਨੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ। ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਰੀਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਕੋਲ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਵੱਲ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
2 ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੜ੍ਹ ਮਾਰਨ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
3 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ, ਆਪਣੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਇੱਕ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ, ‘ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਭੈਭੀਤ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗਿਲਆਦ ਪਰਬਤ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਬੇਸ਼ਕ ਘਰ ਚੱਲਾ ਜਾਵੇ।’” ਉਸੇ ਸਮੇਂ 22,000 ਬੰਦੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ। ਪਰ 10,000 ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਰੁਕੇ ਰਹੇ।
4 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਹਨ। ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਜਾ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਪਰੱਖ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ। ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਾਂ, ‘ਇਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ’, ਉਹ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਾਂ, ‘ਇਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ’, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”
5 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵੱਲ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ। ਪਾਣੀ ਕੋਲ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਟੋਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਵੀਂ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੋਡਿਆਂ ਭਾਰ ਝੁਕ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਟੋਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾ ਦੇਵੀਂ।”
6 ਉੱਥੇ 300 ਬੰਦੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪੀਤਾ। ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਗੋਡਿਆਂ ਭਾਰ ਝੁਕ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਤਾ।
7 ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ 300 ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਤਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਸੱਕੋ। ਬਾਕੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਘਰੋ ਘਰੀ ਜਾਣ ਦਿਉ।”
8 ਇਸ ਲਈ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ 300 ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਘਰ ਚੱਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਰੱਖ ਲਈਆਂ। ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਲੋਕ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਵਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾਈ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਨ।
9 ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉੱਠ ਖਲੋ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲਾ ਜਾ।
10 ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਕਲਿਆਂ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਫ਼ੂਰਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਜਾ।
11 ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ। ਉਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸਤੋਂ ਮਗਰੋਂ, ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰੇਗਾ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਫ਼ੂਰਾਹ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਤੱਕ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ।
12 ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਲੋਕ, ਅਮਾਲੇਕ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਬ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਵਾਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾਈ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਨ। ਉੱਥੇ ਇੰਨੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਟਿੱਡੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਉਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਇੰਨੇ ਊਠ ਹਨ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਕੰਢੇ ਰੇਤ ਦੇ ਕਣ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
13 ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ। ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਆਇਆ ਕਿ ਗੋਲ ਰੋਟੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਟੁਕੜਾ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਇਆ। ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਦਾ ਟੁਕੜਾ ਤੰਬੂ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਨੀ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੀ ਵੱਜਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੰਬੂ ਟੇਢਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਫ਼ਾਲ ਢਹਿ ਪਿਆ।”
14 ਉਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਦੋਸਤ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਅਰਥ ਹੋ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਯੋਆਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਹਰਾਵੇਗਾ।”
15 ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ, ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਝੁਕ ਕੇ ਸਿਜਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਚੱਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ, “ਉੱਠੋ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”
16 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ 300 ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨ ਹਿਸਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡਿਆ। ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਖਾਲੀ ਜੱਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਜਗਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਮਸ਼ਾਲ ਸੀ।
17 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਂ। ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ-ਪਿੱਛੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਦੀ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਤੱਕ ਆ ਜਾਓ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਠੀਕ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਂ।
18 ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਦੀ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰਾ ਪਾ ਲਵੋ। ਮੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਵਜਾਵਾਂਗੇ। ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਵਜਾਈਏ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਵਜਾਉਣੀਆਂ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਅਰਾ ਲਾਉਣਾ: ‘ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਲਈ!’”
19 ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੇ 100 ਆਦਮੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਦੀ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਤੀਕ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਉਦੋਂ ਆਏ ਜਦੋਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਨੇ ਹਾਲੇ ਪਹਿਰਾ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਹੀ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਰ ਸੀ। ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਵਜਾਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੱਗ ਭੰਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
20 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਦੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਮਸ਼ਾਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੱਬੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ੜੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਗਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਵਜਾਈਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਅਰਾ ਲਾਇਆ, “ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਤਲਵਾਰ!”
21 ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਠਹਿਰ ਗਏ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਡੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ, ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਮਚਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਭੱਜਣ ਲੱਗੇ।
22 ਜਦੋਂ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ 300 ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਵਜਾਈਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਬੈਤ ਸ਼ਿੱਟਾਹ ਵੱਲ ਭੱਜ ਗਈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸ਼ਰੇਰਹ ਵੱਲ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਅਬੇਲ ਮਹੋਲਾਹ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਸਰਹੱਦ, ਟੱਬਾਥ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕ ਤੱਕ ਭੱਜਦੇ ਗਏ।
23 ਫ਼ੇਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਫ਼ਤਾਲੀ, ਆਸੇਰ ਤੋਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੱਦਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
24 ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਨੇ ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤੇ। “ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆਕੇ ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿਉ। ਬੈਤ ਬਾਰਾਹ ਦਰਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਯਰਦਨ ਦਰਿਆ ਤੱਕ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਸਤ੍ਰੋਤਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਬਜ਼ਾ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ। ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ-ਸਮੂਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ। ਅਤੇ ਯਰਦਨ ਦਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਤ ਬਾਰਾਹ ਦਰਿਆ ਤੀਕ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਤ੍ਰੋਤਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਬਜ਼ਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
25 ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਓਰੇਬ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਏਬ ਨਾਮੀ ਦੋ ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੜ ਲਿਆ। ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਓਰੇਬ ਨੂੰ ਓਰੇਬ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਨਾਮੀ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਏਬ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਅ ਦੀ ਕੋਲਹੋ ਕਹਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਮਿਦਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਓਰੇਬ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਏਬ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਕੱਟਕੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਦਾਊਨ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਏ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਯਰਦਨ ਦਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਪਾਰ ਸੀ।
1 Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
5 So he brought down the people unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.
12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
14 And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.
16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
17 And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.
19 So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.
20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.
21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.
22 And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth-shittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abel-meholah, unto Tabbath.
23 And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.
24 And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan.
25 And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.
1 And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.
2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.
3 And the Lord said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,
5 And said unto them, I see your father’s countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.
6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.
8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.
9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.
11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.
13 I am the God of Beth-el, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?
15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.
16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children’s: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padan-aram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.
19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father’s.
20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.
21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.
22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.
23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.
24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.
26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?
27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?
28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.
29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
33 And Laban went into Jacob’s tent, and into Leah’s tent, and into the two maidservants’ tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent.
34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.
35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.
36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?
37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.
38 This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.
39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.
40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.
41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.
43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?
44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.
45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.
46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.
47 And Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.
48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;
49 And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.
50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.
51 And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee;
52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.
53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.
54 Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.
55 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
