அவர்கள் ஆரோனுடைய குமாரரின் கீழ்க் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தின் ஊழியமாய் நின்று, பிராகாரங்களையும், அறைகளையும், சகல பரிசுத்த பணிமுட்டுகளின் சுத்திகரிப்பையும், தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தின் ஆராதனைக்கடுத்த வேலையையும் விசாரிப்பதும்,

ஆரோனின் சந்ததியினர் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தில் சேவை செய்யும்போது லேவியர்கள் உதவுவதை வேலையாகக் கொண்டனர். அவர்கள் ஆலயத்தின் பிரகாரங்களையும் பக்கத்து அறைகளையும் கவனித்துக்கொண்டனர். எல்லாப் பரிசுத்தமானப் பொருட்களையும் சுத்தப்படுத்தும் வேலையைச் செய்தனர். தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்திற்குள் பணி செய்வதில் இது அவர்களின் வேலையாய் இருந்தது.
