அதற்கு ஜனங்கள் பலவிதமாய்ச் சத்தமிட்டார்கள்; சந்தடியினாலே நிச்சயத்தை அவன் அறியக்கூடாமல், அவனைக் கோட்டைக்குள்ளே கொண்டுபோகும்படி கட்டளையிட்டான்.

அங்கிருந்தோரில் சிலர் ஒன்றைக் கூக்குரலிடவும் பிறர் வேறொன்றைக் கூக்குரலிடவும் செய்தனர். குழப்பமாகவும், கூச்சலாகவும் இருந்தமையால் அதிகாரி நடந்த உண்மையை அறிந்துகொள்ள முடியவில்லை. எனவே அதிகாரி வீரர்களிடம் பவுலைப் படைக்கூடத்துக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு செல்லுமாறு கூறினான்.
