மூடனுக்குச் சம்பவிக்கிறதுபோல எனக்கும் சம்பவிக்கிறதே; அப்படியிருக்க நான் அதிக ஞானமடைந்ததினால் காரியமென்ன என்று சிந்தித்தேன்; இதுவும் மாயை என்று என் உள்ளத்தில் எண்ணினேன்.

“ஒரு முட்டாளுக்கு எற்படுவதே எனக்கும் எற்படுகின்றது. எனவே நான் ஞானம்பெற ஏன் இவ்வளவு கடினமாக உழைத்திருக்கிறேன்” என்று எண்ணினேன். நான் எனக்குள், “ஞானமுள்ளவனாக இருப்பதும் பயனற்றதே” என்று சொன்னேன்.

மூடருக்கு நேரிடுவது போலவே எனக்கும் நேரிடும். அப்படியானால் நான் ஞானத்தில் வளர்ந்தது எதற்காக? அதனால் பயனென்ன என்று சிந்தித்து, அதுவும் வீணே என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்தேன்.

I אֲנִ֜י ʾănî uh-NEE
in my heart, בְּלִבִּ֗י lēb lave
As it happeneth כְּמִקְרֵ֤ה miqre meek-REH
to the fool, הַכְּסִיל֙ kĕsîl keh-SEEL
even גַּם gam ɡahm
was I אֲנִ֣י ʾănî uh-NEE
so it happeneth יִקְרֵ֔נִי qārâ ka-RA
to me; and why וְלָ֧מָּה mâ ma
wise? חָכַ֛מְתִּי ḥākam ha-HAHM
אֲנִ֖י ʾănî uh-NEE
then אָ֣ז ʾāz az
more יוֹתֵ֑ר yôtēr yoh-TARE
Then I said וְדִבַּ֣רְתִּי dābar da-VAHR
in my heart, בְלִבִּ֔י lēb lave
also שֶׁגַּם gam ɡahm
that this זֶ֖ה ze zeh
vanity. הָֽבֶל׃ hebel heh-VEL
