1 ஊத்ஸ் தேசத்திலே யோபு என்னும்பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அந்த மனுஷன் உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்துபொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமாயிருந்தான். There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

2 அவனுக்கு ஏழு குமாரரும், மூன்று குமாரத்திகளும் பிறந்தார்கள். And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

3 அவனுக்கு ஏழாயிரம் ஆடுகளும், மூவாயிரம் ஒட்டகங்களும், ஐந்நூறு ஏர்மாடுகளும், ஐந்நூறு கழுதைகளுமாகிய மிருகஜீவன்கள் இருந்ததுமன்றி, திரளான பணிவிடைக்காரருமிருந்தார்கள்; அதினால் அந்த மனுஷன் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் எல்லாரிலும் பெரியவனாயிருந்தான். His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4 அவன் குமாரர், அவனவன் தன்தன் நாளிலே தன்தன் வீட்டிலே விருந்துசெய்து, தங்கள் மூன்று சகோதரிகளையும் தங்களோடே போஜனம் பண்ணும்படி அழைப்பார்கள். And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5 விருந்துசெய்கிற அவரவருடைய நாள்முறை முடிகிறபோது, யோபு: ஒருவேளை என் குமாரர் பாவஞ்செய்து தேவனைத் தங்கள் இருதயத்திலே தூஷித்திருப்பார்கள் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை அழைத்தனுப்பி, பரிசுத்தப்படுத்தி, அதிகாலமே எழுந்து, அவர்கள் எல்லாருடைய இலக்கத்தின்படியேயும் சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளைச் செலுத்துவான்; இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக அந்நாட்களிலெல்லாம் செய்துவருவான். And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

6 ஒருநாள் தேவபுத்திரர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றபோது, சாத்தானும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே வந்து நின்றான். Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

7 கர்த்தர் சாத்தானைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய் என்றார். சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பூமியெங்கும் உலாவி, அதில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து வருகிறேன் என்றான். And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

8 கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி என் தாசனாகிய யோபின்மேல் கவனம் வைத்தாயோ? உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமாகிய அவனைப்போல பூமியில் ஒருவனும் இல்லை என்றார். And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

9 அதற்குச் சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக; யோபு விருதாவாகவா தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து நடக்கிறான். Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10 நீர் அவனையும் அவன் வீட்டையும் அவனுக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும் சுற்றி வேலியடைக்கவில்லையோ? அவன் கைகளின் கிரியையை ஆசீர்வதித்தீர்; அவனுடைய சம்பத்து தேசத்தில் பெருகிற்று. Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11 ஆனாலும் உம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி அவனுக்கு உண்டானவையெல்லாம் தொடுவீரானால், அப்பொழுது அவன் உமது முகத்துக்கு எதிரே உம்மைத் தூஷிக்கானோ பாரும் என்றான். But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

12 கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: இதோ, அவனுக்கு உண்டானவையெல்லாம் உன் கையிலிருக்கிறது; அவன்மேல்மாத்திரம் உன் கையை நீட்டாதே என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாத்தான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான். And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

13 பின்பு ஒருநாள் யோபுடைய குமாரரும், அவன் குமாரத்திகளும், தங்கள் மூத்த சகோதரன் வீட்டிலே புசித்து, திராட்சரசம் குடிக்கிறபோது, And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

14 ஒரு ஆள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து; எருதுகள் உழுகிறபோது, கழுதைகள் அவைகளின் பக்கத்திலே மேய்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கையில், And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

15 சபேயர் அவைகள்மேல் விழுந்து அவைகளைச் சாய்த்துக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள்; வேலையாட்களையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான். And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

16 இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: வானத்திலிருந்து தேவனுடைய அக்கினி விழுந்து, ஆடுகளையும் வேலையாட்களையும் சுட்டெரித்துப்போட்டது; நான் ஒருவன்மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான். While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

17 இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: கல்தேயர் மூன்று பவுஞ்சாய் வந்து, ஒட்டகங்கள்மேல் விழுந்து, அவைகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள், வேலையாட்களையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன்மாத்திரம் தப்பி அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான். While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

18 இவன் இப்படிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், வேறொருவன் வந்து: உம்முடைய குமாரரும் உம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளும், தங்கள் மூத்த சகோதரன் வீட்டிலே புசித்துத் திராட்சரசம் குடிக்கிறபோது, While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

19 வனாந்தர வழியாய்ப் பெருங்காற்று வந்து, அந்த வீட்டின் நாலுமூலையிலும் அடிக்க, அது பிள்ளைகளின்மேல் விழுந்ததினால் அவர்கள் இறந்துபோனார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன்மாத்திரம் தப்பி, அதை உமக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படி வந்தேன் என்றான். And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

20 அப்பொழுது யோபு எழுந்திருந்து, தன் சால்வையைக் கிழித்து, தன் தலையைச் சிரைத்து, தரையிலே விழுந்து பணிந்து: Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

21 நிர்வாணியாய் என் தாயின் கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து வந்தேன்; நிர்வாணியாய் அவ்விடத்துக்குத் திரும்புவேன்; கர்த்தர் கொடுத்தார், கர்த்தர் எடுத்தார்; கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்துக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் என்றான். And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

22 இவையெல்லாவற்றிலும் யோபு பாவஞ்செய்யவுமில்லை, தேவனைப்பற்றிக் குறைசொல்லவுமில்லை. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

1 Ooths thaesaththilae yopu ennumpaerkonnda oru manushan irunthaan; antha manushan uththamanum sanmaarkkanum, thaevanukkup payanthupollaappukku vilakukiravanumaayirunthaan. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

2 Avanukku aelu kumaararum, moontu kumaaraththikalum piranthaarkal. And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

3 Avanukku aelaayiram aadukalum, moovaayiram ottakangalum, ainnooraு aermaadukalum, ainnooraு kaluthaikalumaakiya mirukajeevankal irunthathumanti, thiralaana pannivitaikkaararumirunthaarkal; athinaal antha manushan kilakkaththip puththirar ellaarilum periyavanaayirunthaan. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4 Avan kumaarar, avanavan thanthan naalilae thanthan veettilae virunthuseythu, thangal moontu sakotharikalaiyum thangalotae pojanam pannnumpati alaippaarkal. And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5 Virunthuseykira avaravarutaiya naalmurai mutikirapothu, yopu: oruvaelai en kumaarar paavanjaெythu thaevanaith thangal iruthayaththilae thooshiththiruppaarkal entu solli, avarkalai alaiththanuppi, Parisuththappaduththi, athikaalamae elunthu, avarkal ellaarutaiya ilakkaththinpatiyaeyum sarvaanga thakanapalikalaich seluththuvaan; inthappirakaaramaaka annaatkalilellaam seythuvaruvaan. And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

6 Orunaal thaevapuththirar karththarutaiya sannithiyil vanthu nintapothu, saaththaanum avarkal naduvilae vanthu nintan. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

7 Karththar saaththaanaip paarththu: nee engaeyirunthu varukiraay entar. Saaththaan karththarukkup pirathiyuththaramaaka: poomiyengum ulaavi, athil suttiththirinthu varukiraேn entan. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

8 Karththar saaththaanai Nnokki en thaasanaakiya yopinmael kavanam vaiththaayo? Uththamanum sanmaarkkanum, thaevanukkup payanthu, pollaappukku vilakukiravanumaakiya avanaippola poomiyil oruvanum illai entar. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

9 Atharkuch saaththaan karththarukkup pirathiyuththaramaaka; yopu viruthaavaakavaa thaevanukkup payanthu nadakkiraan. Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10 Neer avanaiyum avan veettaைyum avanukku unndaana ellaavattaைyum sutti vaeliyataikkavillaiyo? Avan kaikalin kiriyaiyai aaseervathiththeer; avanutaiya sampaththu thaesaththil perukittaு. Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11 Aanaalum ummutaiya kaiyai neetti avanukku unndaanavaiyellaam thoduveeraanaal, appoluthu avan umathu mukaththukku ethirae ummaith thooshikkaano paarum entan. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

12 Karththar saaththaanai Nnokki: itho, avanukku unndaanavaiyellaam un kaiyilirukkirathu; avanmaelmaaththiram un kaiyai neettathae entar; appoluthu saaththaan karththarutaiya sannithiyaivittup purappattupponaan. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

13 Pinpu orunaal yoputaiya kumaararum, avan kumaaraththikalum, thangal mooththa sakotharan veettilae pusiththu, thiraatcharasam kutikkirapothu, And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

14 Oru aal avanidaththil vanthu; eruthukal ulukirapothu, kaluthaikal avaikalin pakkaththilae maeynthukonntirukkaiyil, And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

15 Sapaeyar avaikalmael vilunthu avaikalaich saayththukkonnduponaarkal; vaelaiyaatkalaiyum pattayakkarukkinaal vettippottarkal; naan oruvan maaththiram thappi, athai umakku arivikkumpati vanthaen entan. And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

16 Ivan ippatip paesikkonntirukkaiyil, vaeroruvan vanthu: vaanaththilirunthu thaevanutaiya akkini vilunthu, aadukalaiyum vaelaiyaatkalaiyum sutteriththuppottathu; naan oruvanmaaththiram thappi, athai umakku arivikkumpati vanthaen entan. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

17 Ivan ippatip paesikkonntirukkaiyil, vaeroruvan vanthu: kalthaeyar moontu pavunjaay vanthu, ottakangalmael vilunthu, avaikalai ottikkonnduponaarkal, vaelaiyaatkalaiyum pattayakkarukkinaal vettippottarkal; naan oruvanmaaththiram thappi athai umakku arivikkumpati vanthaen entan. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

18 Ivan ippatip paesikkonntirukkaiyil, vaeroruvan vanthu: ummutaiya kumaararum ummutaiya kumaaraththikalum, thangal mooththa sakotharan veettilae pusiththuth thiraatcharasam kutikkirapothu, While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

19 Vanaanthara valiyaayp perungaattaு vanthu, antha veettin naalumoolaiyilum atikka, athu pillaikalinmael vilunthathinaal avarkal iranthuponaarkal; naan oruvanmaaththiram thappi, athai umakku arivikkumpati vanthaen entan. And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

20 Appoluthu yopu elunthirunthu, than saalvaiyaik kiliththu, than thalaiyaich siraiththu, tharaiyilae vilunthu panninthu: Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

21 Nirvaanniyaay en thaayin karppaththilirunthu vanthaen; nirvaanniyaay avvidaththukkuth thirumpuvaen; Karththar koduththaar, Karththar eduththaar; karththarutaiya naamaththukku Sthoththiram entan. And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

22 Ivaiyellaavattilum yopu paavanjaெyyavumillai, thaevanaippattik kuraisollavumillai. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
