  1. וַיְהִ֥י came hāyâ דְבַר Again the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֥י unto ʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar
  2. בֶּן Son bēn אָדָ֗ם of man, ʾādām דַּבֵּ֤ר speak dābar אֶל to ʾēl בְּנֵֽי the children bēn עַמְּךָ֙ of thy people, ʿam וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ and say ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם unto ʾēl אֶ֕רֶץ a land, ʾereṣ כִּֽי them, When אָבִ֥יא I bring bôʾ עָלֶ֖יהָ upon ʿal חָ֑רֶב the sword ḥereb וְלָקְח֨וּ take lāqaḥ עַם if the people ʿam הָאָ֜רֶץ of the land ʾereṣ אִ֤ישׁ man ʾîš אֶחָד֙ a ʾeḥād מִקְצֵיהֶ֔ם of their coasts, qāṣe וְנָתְנ֥וּ and set nātan אֹת֛וֹ ʾēt לָהֶ֖ם לְצֹפֶֽה׃ him for their watchman: ṣāpâ
  3. וְרָאָ֥ה If when he seeth rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַחֶ֖רֶב the sword ḥereb בָּאָ֣ה come bôʾ עַל upon ʿal הָאָ֑רֶץ the land, ʾereṣ וְתָקַ֥ע he blow tāqaʿ בַּשּׁוֹפָ֖ר the trumpet, šôpār וְהִזְהִ֥יר and warn zāhar אֶת ʾēt הָעָֽם׃ the people; ʿam
  4. וְשָׁמַ֨ע Then whosoever šāmaʿ הַשֹּׁמֵ֜עַ heareth šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt ק֤וֹל the sound qôl הַשּׁוֹפָר֙ of the trumpet, šôpār וְלֹ֣א lōʾ נִזְהָ֔ר and taketh not warning; zāhar וַתָּ֥בוֹא come, bôʾ חֶ֖רֶב if the sword ḥereb וַתִּקָּחֵ֑הוּ and take him away, lāqaḥ דָּמ֥וֹ his blood dām בְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ upon his own head. rōš יִֽהְיֶֽה׃ shall be hāyâ
  5. אֵת֩ ʾēt ק֨וֹל the sound qôl הַשּׁוֹפָ֤ר of the trumpet, šôpār שָׁמַע֙ He heard šāmaʿ וְלֹ֣א lōʾ נִזְהָ֔ר and took not warning; zāhar דָּמ֖וֹ his blood dām בּ֣וֹ יִֽהְיֶ֑ה shall be hāyâ וְה֥וּא upon him. But he hûʾ נִזְהָ֖ר that taketh warning zāhar נַפְשׁ֥וֹ his soul. nepeš מִלֵּֽט׃ shall deliver mālaṭ
  6. וְ֠הַצֹּפֶה the watchman ṣāpâ כִּֽי But if יִרְאֶ֨ה see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַחֶ֜רֶב the sword ḥereb בָּאָ֗ה come, bôʾ וְלֹֽא not lōʾ תָקַ֤ע and blow tāqaʿ בַּשּׁוֹפָר֙ the trumpet, šôpār וְהָעָ֣ם and the people ʿam לֹֽא be not lōʾ נִזְהָ֔ר warned; zāhar וַתָּב֣וֹא come, bôʾ חֶ֔רֶב if the sword ḥereb וַתִּקַּ֥ח and take lāqaḥ מֵהֶ֖ם hēm נָ֑פֶשׁ person nepeš ה֚וּא from among them, he hûʾ בַּעֲוֺנ֣וֹ in his iniquity; ʿāwōn נִלְקָ֔ח is taken away lāqaḥ וְדָמ֖וֹ but his blood dām מִיַּֽד hand. yād הַצֹּפֶ֥ה at the watchman's ṣāpâ אֶדְרֹֽשׁ׃ will I require dāraš
  7. וְאַתָּ֣ה So thou, ʾattâ בֶן O son bēn אָדָ֔ם of man, ʾādām צֹפֶ֥ה thee a watchman ṣāpâ נְתַתִּ֖יךָ I have set nātan לְבֵ֣ית unto the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֤ therefore thou shalt hear šāmaʿ מִפִּי֙ at my mouth, pe דָּבָ֔ר the word dābār וְהִזְהַרְתָּ֥ and warn zāhar אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ them from me. min
  8. בְּאָמְרִ֣י When I say ʾāmar לָרָשָׁ֗ע unto the wicked, rāšāʿ רָשָׁע֙ O wicked rāšāʿ מ֣וֹת thou shalt surely mût תָּמ֔וּת die; mût וְלֹ֣א if thou dost not lōʾ דִבַּ֔רְתָּ speak dābar לְהַזְהִ֥יר to warn zāhar רָשָׁ֖ע the wicked rāšāʿ מִדַּרְכּ֑וֹ from his way, derek ה֤וּא that hûʾ רָשָׁע֙ wicked rāšāʿ בַּעֲוֺנ֣וֹ in his iniquity; ʿāwōn יָמ֔וּת shall die mût וְדָמ֖וֹ but his blood dām מִיָּדְךָ֥ at thine hand. yād אֲבַקֵּֽשׁ׃ will I require bāqaš
  9. וְ֠אַתָּה thou ʾattâ כִּֽי Nevertheless, if הִזְהַ֨רְתָּ warn zāhar רָשָׁ֤ע the wicked rāšāʿ מִדַּרְכּוֹ֙ of his way derek לָשׁ֣וּב to turn šûb מִמֶּ֔נָּה from min וְלֹא it; if he do not lōʾ שָׁ֖ב turn šûb מִדַּרְכּ֑וֹ from his way, derek ה֚וּא he hûʾ בַּעֲוֺנ֣וֹ in his iniquity; ʿāwōn יָמ֔וּת shall die mût וְאַתָּ֖ה but thou ʾattâ נַפְשְׁךָ֥ thy soul. nepeš הִצַּֽלְתָּ׃ hast delivered nāṣal
  10. וְאַתָּ֣ה Therefore, O thou ʾattâ בֶן son bēn אָדָ֗ם of man, ʾādām אֱמֹר֙ speak ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl בֵּ֣ית the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl כֵּ֤ן Thus kēn אֲמַרְתֶּם֙ ye speak, ʾāmar לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar כִּֽי If פְשָׁעֵ֥ינוּ our transgressions pešaʿ וְחַטֹּאתֵ֖ינוּ and our sins ḥaṭṭāʾâ עָלֵ֑ינוּ upon ʿal וּבָ֛ם אֲנַ֥חְנוּ us, and we ʾănaḥnû נְמַקִּ֖ים pine away māqaq וְאֵ֥יךְ in them, how ʾêk נִֽחְיֶֽה׃ should we then live? ḥāyâ
  11. אֱמֹ֨ר Say ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם unto ʾēl חַי live, ḥay אָ֣נִי׀ them, I ʾănî נְאֻ֣ם׀ saith nĕʾum אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֗ה God, yĕhōwi אִם ʾim אֶחְפֹּץ֙ I have no pleasure ḥāpēṣ בְּמ֣וֹת in the death māwet הָרָשָׁ֔ע of the wicked; rāšāʿ כִּ֣י but אִם ʾim בְּשׁ֥וּב turn šûb רָשָׁ֛ע that the wicked rāšāʿ מִדַּרְכּ֖וֹ from his way derek וְחָיָ֑ה and live: ḥāyâ שׁ֣וּבוּ turn šûb שׁ֜וּבוּ ye, turn šûb מִדַּרְכֵיכֶ֧ם ways; derek הָרָעִ֛ים ye from your evil raʿ וְלָ֥מָּה for why תָמ֖וּתוּ will ye die, mût בֵּ֥ית O house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel? yiśrāʾēl
  12. וְאַתָּ֣ה Therefore, thou ʾattâ בֶן son bēn אָדָ֗ם of man, ʾādām אֱמֹ֤ר say ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl בְּנֵֽי the children bēn עַמְּךָ֙ of thy people, ʿam צִדְקַ֣ת The righteousness ṣĕdāqâ הַצַּדִּ֗יק of the righteous ṣaddîq לֹ֤א shall not lōʾ תַצִּילֶ֙נּוּ֙ deliver nāṣal בְּי֣וֹם him in the day yôm פִּשְׁע֔וֹ of his transgression: pešaʿ וְרִשְׁעַ֤ת as for the wickedness rišʿâ הָֽרָשָׁע֙ of the wicked, rāšāʿ לֹֽא he shall not lōʾ יִכָּ֣שֶׁל fall kāšal בָּ֔הּ בְּי֖וֹם thereby in the day yôm שׁוּב֣וֹ that he turneth šûb מֵֽרִשְׁע֑וֹ from his wickedness; rešaʿ וְצַדִּ֗יק shall the righteous ṣaddîq לֹ֥א neither lōʾ יוּכַ֛ל be able yākōl לִֽחְי֥וֹת to live ḥāyâ בָּ֖הּ בְּי֥וֹם for his in the day yôm חֲטֹאתֽוֹ׃ that he sinneth. ḥāṭāʾ
  13. בְּאָמְרִ֤י When I shall say ʾāmar לַצַּדִּיק֙ to the righteous, ṣaddîq חָיֹ֣ה he shall surely ḥāyâ יִֽחְיֶ֔ה live; ḥāyâ וְהֽוּא if he hûʾ בָטַ֥ח trust bāṭaḥ עַל to ʿal צִדְקָת֖וֹ his own righteousness, ṣĕdāqâ וְעָ֣שָׂה and commit ʿāśâ עָ֑וֶל iniquity, ʿewel כָּל all kōl צִדְקֹתָו֙ his righteousnesses ṣĕdāqâ לֹ֣א shall not lōʾ תִזָּכַ֔רְנָה be remembered; zākar וּבְעַוְל֥וֹ but for his iniquity ʿewel אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֖ה he hath committed, ʿāśâ בּ֥וֹ יָמֽוּת׃ he shall die for it. mût
  14. וּבְאָמְרִ֥י Again, when I say ʾāmar לָֽרָשָׁ֖ע unto the wicked, rāšāʿ מ֣וֹת Thou shalt surely mût תָּמ֑וּת die; mût וְשָׁב֙ if he turn šûb מֵֽחַטָּאת֔וֹ from his sin, ḥaṭṭāʾâ וְעָשָׂ֥ה and do ʿāśâ מִשְׁפָּ֖ט that which is lawful mišpāṭ וּצְדָקָֽה׃ and right; ṣĕdāqâ
  15. חֲבֹ֨ל the pledge, ḥăbōl יָשִׁ֤יב restore šûb רָשָׁע֙ the wicked rāšāʿ גְּזֵלָ֣ה that he had robbed, gĕzēlâ יְשַׁלֵּ֔ם give again šālam בְּחֻקּ֤וֹת in the statutes ḥuqqâ הַֽחַיִּים֙ of life, ḥay הָלַ֔ךְ walk hālak לְבִלְתִּ֖י without biltî עֲשׂ֣וֹת committing ʿāśâ עָ֑וֶל iniquity; ʿewel חָי֥וֹ he shall surely ḥāyâ יִֽחְיֶ֖ה live, ḥāyâ לֹ֥א he shall not lōʾ יָמֽוּת׃ die. mût
  16. כָּל kōl חַטֹּאתָו֙ of his sins ḥaṭṭāʾâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer חָטָ֔א he hath committed ḥāṭāʾ לֹ֥א None lōʾ תִזָּכַ֖רְנָה shall be mentioned zākar ל֑וֹ מִשְׁפָּ֧ט that which is lawful mišpāṭ וּצְדָקָ֛ה and right; ṣĕdāqâ עָשָׂ֖ה unto him: he hath done ʿāśâ חָי֥וֹ he shall surely ḥāyâ יִֽחְיֶֽה׃ live. ḥāyâ
  17. וְאָמְרוּ֙ say, ʾāmar בְּנֵ֣י Yet the children bēn עַמְּךָ֔ of thy people ʿam לֹ֥א lōʾ יִתָּכֵ֖ן is not equal: tākan דֶּ֣רֶךְ The way derek אֲדֹנָ֑י of the Lord ʾădōnāy וְהֵ֖מָּה but as for them, hēm דַּרְכָּ֥ם their way derek לֹֽא lōʾ יִתָּכֵֽן׃ is not equal. tākan
  18. בְּשׁוּב turneth šûb צַדִּ֥יק When the righteous ṣaddîq מִצִּדְקָת֖וֹ from his righteousness, ṣĕdāqâ וְעָ֣שָׂה and committeth ʿāśâ עָ֑וֶל iniquity, ʿewel וּמֵ֖ת he shall even die thereby. mût בָּהֶֽם׃
  19. וּבְשׁ֤וּב turn šûb רָשָׁע֙ But if the wicked rāšāʿ מֵֽרִשְׁעָת֔וֹ from his wickedness, rišʿâ וְעָשָׂ֥ה and do ʿāśâ מִשְׁפָּ֖ט that which is lawful mišpāṭ וּצְדָקָ֑ה and right, ṣĕdāqâ עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם ʿal ה֥וּא he hûʾ יִֽחְיֶֽה׃ shall live thereby. ḥāyâ
  20. וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם Yet ye say, ʾāmar לֹ֥א lōʾ יִתָּכֵ֖ן is not equal. tākan דֶּ֣רֶךְ The way derek אֲדֹנָ֑י of the Lord ʾădōnāy אִ֧ישׁ you every one ʾîš כִּדְרָכָ֛יו after his ways. derek אֶשְׁפּ֥וֹט I will judge šāpaṭ אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt בֵּ֥ית O ye house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl
  21. וַיְהִ֞י And it came to pass hāyâ בִּשְׁתֵּ֧י in the twelfth šĕnayim עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה ʿāśār שָׁנָ֗ה year šāne בָּעֲשִׂרִ֛י in the tenth ʿăśîrî בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֥ה in the fifth ḥāmēš לַחֹ֖דֶשׁ of the month, ḥōdeš לְגָלוּתֵ֑נוּ of our captivity, gālût בָּא came bôʾ אֵלַ֨י unto ʾēl הַפָּלִ֧יט one that had escaped pālîṭ מִירוּשָׁלִַ֛ם out of Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim לֵאמֹ֖ר me, saying, ʾāmar הֻכְּתָ֥ה is smitten. nākâ הָעִֽיר׃ The city ʿîr
  22. וְיַד Now the hand yād יְהוָה֩ of the Lord yĕhōwâ הָיְתָ֨ה was hāyâ אֵלַ֜י upon ʾēl בָּעֶ֗רֶב me in the evening, ʿereb לִפְנֵי֙ afore pānîm בּ֣וֹא came; bôʾ הַפָּלִ֔יט he that was escaped pālîṭ וַיִּפְתַּ֣ח and had opened pātaḥ אֶת ʾēt פִּ֔י my mouth, pe עַד until ʿad בּ֥וֹא he came bôʾ אֵלַ֖י to ʾēl בַּבֹּ֑קֶר me in the morning; bōqer וַיִּפָּ֣תַח was opened, pātaḥ פִּ֔י and my mouth pe וְלֹ֥א lōʾ נֶאֱלַ֖מְתִּי and I was no more dumb. ʾālam עֽוֹד׃ ʿôd
  23. וַיְהִ֥י came hāyâ דְבַר Then the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֥י unto ʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar
  24. בֶּן Son bēn אָדָ֗ם of man, ʾādām יֹ֠שְׁבֵי they that inhabit yāšab הֶחֳרָב֨וֹת wastes ḥorbâ הָאֵ֜לֶּה those ʾēlle עַל of ʿal אַדְמַ֤ת the land ʾădāmâ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֹמְרִ֣ים speak, ʾāmar לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar אֶחָד֙ one, ʾeḥād הָיָ֣ה was hāyâ אַבְרָהָ֔ם Abraham ʾabrāhām וַיִּירַ֖שׁ and he inherited yāraš אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֑רֶץ the land: ʾereṣ וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ but we ʾănaḥnû רַבִּ֔ים many; rab לָ֛נוּ נִתְּנָ֥ה is given nātan הָאָ֖רֶץ the land ʾereṣ לְמוֹרָשָֽׁה׃ us for inheritance. môrāšâ
  25. לָכֵן֩ Wherefore kēn אֱמֹ֨ר say ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֜ם unto ʾēl כֹּֽה them, Thus אָמַ֣ר׀ saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִֹ֗ה God; yĕhōwâ עַל with ʿal הַדָּ֧ם׀ the blood, dām תֹּאכֵ֛לוּ Ye eat ʾākal וְעֵינֵכֶ֛ם your eyes ʿayin תִּשְׂא֥וּ and lift up nāśāʾ אֶל toward ʾēl גִּלּוּלֵיכֶ֖ם your idols, gillûl וְדָ֣ם blood: dām תִּשְׁפֹּ֑כוּ and shed šāpak וְהָאָ֖רֶץ the land? ʾereṣ תִּירָֽשׁוּ׃ and shall ye possess yāraš
  26. עֲמַדְתֶּ֤ם Ye stand ʿāmad עַֽל upon ʿal חַרְבְּכֶם֙ your sword, ḥereb עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ן ye work ʿāśâ תּוֹעֵבָ֔ה abomination, tôʿēba וְאִ֛ישׁ every one ʾîš אֶת ʾēt אֵ֥שֶׁת wife: ʾiššâ רֵעֵ֖הוּ his neighbour's rēaʿ טִמֵּאתֶ֑ם and ye defile ṭāmēʾ וְהָאָ֖רֶץ the land? ʾereṣ תִּירָֽשׁוּ׃ and shall ye possess yāraš
  27. כֹּֽה thou thus תֹאמַ֨ר Say ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֜ם unto them, ʾēl כֹּה Thus אָמַ֨ר saith ʾāmar אֲדֹנָ֣י the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִה֮ God; yĕhōwi חַי live, ḥay אָנִי֒ I ʾănî אִם surely ʾim לֹ֞א lōʾ אֲשֶׁ֤ר they that ʾăšer בֶּֽחֳרָבוֹת֙ in the wastes ḥorbâ בַּחֶ֣רֶב by the sword, ḥereb יִפֹּ֔לוּ shall fall nāpal וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ and him that ʾăšer עַל in ʿal פְּנֵ֣י the open pānîm הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה field śāde לַחַיָּ֥ה to the beasts ḥay נְתַתִּ֖יו will I give nātan לְאָכְל֑וֹ to be devoured, ʾākal וַאֲשֶׁ֛ר and they that ʾăšer בַּמְּצָד֥וֹת in the forts mĕṣad וּבַמְּעָר֖וֹת and in the caves mĕʿārâ בַּדֶּ֥בֶר of the pestilence. deber יָמֽוּתוּ׃ shall die mût
  28. וְנָתַתִּ֤י For I will lay nātan אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ the land ʾereṣ שְׁמָמָ֣ה desolate, šĕmāmâ וּמְשַׁמָּ֔ה most mĕšammâ וְנִשְׁבַּ֖ת shall cease; šābat גְּא֣וֹן and the pomp gāʾôn עֻזָּ֑הּ of her strength ʿōz וְשָֽׁמְמ֛וּ shall be desolate, šāmēm הָרֵ֥י and the mountains har יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵאֵ֥ין that none ʾayin עוֹבֵֽר׃ shall pass through. ʿābar
  29. וְיָדְע֖וּ Then shall they know yādaʿ כִּֽי that אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî יְהוָ֑ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ בְּתִתִּ֤י when I have laid nātan אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ the land ʾereṣ שְׁמָמָ֣ה desolate šĕmāmâ וּמְשַׁמָּ֔ה most mĕšammâ עַ֥ל because of ʿal כָּל all kōl תּוֹעֲבֹתָ֖ם their abominations tôʿēba אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עָשֽׂוּ׃ they have committed. ʿāśâ
  30. וְאַתָּ֣ה Also, thou ʾattâ בֶן son bēn אָדָ֔ם of man, ʾādām בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn עַמְּךָ֗ of thy people ʿam הַנִּדְבָּרִ֤ים still are talking dābar בְּךָ֙ אֵ֣צֶל against thee by ʾēṣel הַקִּיר֔וֹת the walls qîr וּבְפִתְחֵ֖י and in the doors petaḥ הַבָּתִּ֑ים of the houses, bayit וְדִבֶּר and speak dābar חַ֣ד one ḥad אֶת ʾēt אַחַ֗ד to another, ʾeḥād אִ֤ישׁ every one ʾîš אֶת from ʾēt אָחִיו֙ to his brother, ʾāḥ לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar בֹּֽאוּ Come, bôʾ נָ֣א I pray you, nāʾ וְשִׁמְע֔וּ and hear šāmaʿ מָ֣ה what הַדָּבָ֔ר is the word dābār הַיּוֹצֵ֖א that cometh forth yāṣāʾ מֵאֵ֥ת ʾēt יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ
  31. וְיָב֣וֹאוּ And they come bôʾ אֵ֠לֶיךָ unto ʾēl כִּמְבוֹא cometh, mābôʾ עָ֞ם thee as the people ʿam וְיֵשְׁב֤וּ and they sit yāšab לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ before pānîm עַמִּ֔י thee my people, ʿam וְשָֽׁמְעוּ֙ and they hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ thy words, dābār וְאוֹתָ֖ם ʾēt לֹ֣א but they will not lōʾ יַֽעֲשׂ֑וּ do ʿāśâ כִּֽי them: for עֲגָבִ֤ים much love, ʿegeb בְּפִיהֶם֙ with their mouth pe הֵ֣מָּה they hēm עֹשִׂ֔ים shew ʿāśâ אַחֲרֵ֥י after ʾaḥar בִצְעָ֖ם their covetousness. beṣaʿ לִבָּ֥ם their heart lēb הֹלֵֽךְ׃ goeth hālak
  32. וְהִנְּךָ֤ And, lo, hēn לָהֶם֙ כְּשִׁ֣יר song šîr עֲגָבִ֔ים thou unto them as a very lovely ʿegeb יְפֵ֥ה of one that hath a pleasant yāpe ק֖וֹל voice, qôl וּמֵטִ֣ב and can play well ṭôb נַגֵּ֑ן on an instrument: nāgan וְשָֽׁמְעוּ֙ for they hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ thy words, dābār וְעֹשִׂ֥ים but they do them not. ʿāśâ אֵינָ֖ם ʾayin אוֹתָֽם׃ ʾēt
