גֶּ֤פֶן vine, gepen בּוֹקֵק֙ an empty bāqaq יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiśrāʾēl פְּרִ֖י fruit pĕrî יְשַׁוֶּה he bringeth forth šāwâ לּ֑וֹ כְּרֹ֣ב unto himself: according to the multitude rōb לְפִרְי֗וֹ of his fruit pĕrî הִרְבָּה֙ he hath increased rābâ לַֽמִּזְבְּח֔וֹת the altars; mizbēaḥ כְּט֣וֹב according to the goodness ṭôb לְאַרְצ֔וֹ of his land ʾereṣ הֵיטִ֖יבוּ they have made goodly yāṭab מַצֵּבֽוֹת׃ images. maṣṣēbâ

חָלַ֥ק is divided; ḥālaq לִבָּ֖ם Their heart lēb עַתָּ֣ה now ʿattâ יֶאְשָׁ֑מוּ shall they be found faulty: ʾāšam ה֚וּא he hûʾ יַעֲרֹ֣ף shall break down ʿārap מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֔ם their altars, mizbēaḥ יְשֹׁדֵ֖ד he shall spoil šādad מַצֵּבוֹתָֽם׃ their images. maṣṣēbâ

כִּ֤י For kî עַתָּה֙ now ʿattâ יֹֽאמְר֔וּ they shall say, ʾāmar אֵ֥ין We have no ʾayin מֶ֖לֶךְ king, melek לָ֑נוּ כִּ֣י because kî לֹ֤א not lōʾ יָרֵ֙אנוּ֙ we feared yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֔ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ then should a king melek מַה what mâ יַּֽעֲשֶׂה do to us? ʿāśâ לָּֽנוּ׃

דִּבְּר֣וּ They have spoken dābar דְבָרִ֔ים words, dābār אָל֥וֹת swearing ʾālâ שָׁ֖וְא falsely šow כָּרֹ֣ת in making kārat בְּרִ֑ית a covenant: bĕrît וּפָרַ֤ח springeth up pāraḥ כָּרֹאשׁ֙ as hemlock rōš מִשְׁפָּ֔ט thus judgment mišpāṭ עַ֖ל in ʿal תַּלְמֵ֥י the furrows telem שָׂדָֽי׃ of the field. śāde

לְעֶגְלוֹת֙ because of the calves ʿeglâ בֵּ֣ית אָ֔וֶן of Beth-aven: bêt ʾāwen יָג֖וּרוּ shall fear gûr שְׁכַ֣ן The inhabitants šākēn שֹֽׁמְר֑וֹן of Samaria šōmĕrôn כִּי for kî אָבַ֨ל thereof shall mourn ʾābal עָלָ֜יו over ʿal עַמּ֗וֹ the people ʿam וּכְמָרָיו֙ it, and the priests kāmār עָלָ֣יו on ʿal יָגִ֔ילוּ thereof rejoiced gîl עַל it, for ʿal כְּבוֹד֖וֹ the glory kābôd כִּֽי thereof, because kî גָלָ֥ה it is departed gālâ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ from it. min

גַּם It shall be also gam אוֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt לְאַשּׁ֣וּר unto Assyria ʾaššûr יוּבָ֔ל carried yābal מִנְחָ֖ה a present minḥâ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ to king melek יָרֵ֑ב Jareb: yārēb בָּשְׁנָה֙ shame, bošnâ אֶפְרַ֣יִם Ephraim ʾeprayim יִקָּ֔ח shall receive lāqaḥ וְיֵב֥וֹשׁ shall be ashamed bûš יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל and Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵעֲצָתֽוֹ׃ of his own counsel. ʿēṣâ

נִדְמֶ֥ה is cut off dāmâ שֹׁמְר֖וֹן Samaria, šōmĕrôn מַלְכָּ֑הּ her king melek כְּקֶ֖צֶף as the foam qeṣep עַל ʿal פְּנֵי upon pānîm מָֽיִם׃ the water. mayim

וְנִשְׁמְד֞וּ shall be destroyed: šāmad בָּמ֣וֹת The high places bāmâ אָ֗וֶן also of Aven, ʾāwen חַטַּאת֙ the sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl ק֣וֹץ the thorn qôṣ וְדַרְדַּ֔ר and the thistle dardar יַעֲלֶ֖ה shall come up ʿālâ עַל on ʿal מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֑ם their altars; mizbēaḥ וְאָמְר֤וּ and they shall say ʾāmar לֶֽהָרִים֙ to the mountains, har כַּסּ֔וּנוּ Cover kāsâ וְלַגְּבָע֖וֹת us; and to the hills, gibʿâ נִפְל֥וּ Fall nāpal עָלֵֽינוּ׃ on us. ʿal

מִימֵי֙ from the days yôm הַגִּבְעָ֔ה of Gibeah: gibʿâ חָטָ֖אתָ thou hast sinned ḥāṭāʾ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל O Israel, yiśrāʾēl שָׁ֣ם there šām עָמָ֔דוּ they stood: ʿāmad לֹֽא did not lōʾ תַשִּׂיגֵ֧ם overtake them. nāśag בַּגִּבְעָ֛ה in Gibeah gibʿâ מִלְחָמָ֖ה the battle milḥāmâ עַל against ʿal בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn עַֽלְוָֽה׃ of iniquity ʿalwâ

בְּאַוָּתִ֖י in my desire ʾawwâ וְאֶסֳּרֵ֑ם that I should chastise yāsar וְאֻסְּפ֤וּ shall be gathered ʾāsap עֲלֵיהֶם֙ against ʿal עַמִּ֔ים them; and the people ʿam בְּאָסְרָ֖ם them, when they shall bind ʾāsar לִשְׁתֵּ֥י themselves in their two šĕnayim עיֹנֹתָֽם׃ furrows. ʿayin

וְאֶפְרַ֜יִם And Ephraim ʾeprayim עֶגְלָ֤ה an heifer ʿeglâ מְלֻמָּדָה֙ taught, lāmad אֹהַ֣בְתִּי loveth ʾāhab לָד֔וּשׁ to tread out dûš וַאֲנִ֣י but I ʾănî עָבַ֔רְתִּי passed over ʿābar עַל upon ʿal ט֖וּב her fair ṭûb צַוָּארָ֑הּ neck: ṣawwār אַרְכִּ֤יב to ride; rākab אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ I will make Ephraim ʾeprayim יַחֲר֣וֹשׁ shall plow, ḥāraš יְהוּדָ֔ה Judah yĕhûdâ יְשַׂדֶּד shall break his clods. śādad ל֖וֹ יַעֲקֹֽב׃ Jacob yaʿăqōb

זִרְע֨וּ Sow zāraʿ לָכֶ֤ם לִצְדָקָה֙ to yourselves in righteousness, ṣĕdāqâ קִצְר֣וּ reap qāṣar לְפִי in pe חֶ֔סֶד mercy; ḥēsēd נִ֥ירוּ break up nîr לָכֶ֖ם נִ֑יר your fallow ground: nîr וְעֵת֙ for time ʿēt לִדְר֣וֹשׁ to seek dāraš אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ עַד till ʿad יָב֕וֹא he come bôʾ וְיֹרֶ֥ה and rain yārâ צֶ֖דֶק righteousness upon you. ṣedeq לָכֶֽם׃

חֲרַשְׁתֶּם Ye have plowed ḥāraš רֶ֛שַׁע wickedness, rešaʿ עַוְלָ֥תָה iniquity; ʿewel קְצַרְתֶּ֖ם ye have reaped qāṣar אֲכַלְתֶּ֣ם ye have eaten ʾākal פְּרִי the fruit pĕrî כָ֑חַשׁ of lies: kaḥaš כִּֽי because kî בָטַ֥חְתָּ thou didst trust bāṭaḥ בְדַרְכְּךָ֖ in thy way, derek בְּרֹ֥ב in the multitude rōb גִּבּוֹרֶֽיךָ׃ of thy mighty men. gibbôr

וְקָ֣אם arise qûm שָׁאוֹן֮ Therefore shall a tumult šāʾôn בְּעַמֶּךָ֒ among thy people, ʿam וְכָל and all kōl מִבְצָרֶ֣יךָ thy fortresses mibṣār יוּשַּׁ֔ד shall be spoiled, šādad כְּשֹׁ֧ד spoiled šōd שַֽׁלְמַ֛ן as Shalman šalman בֵּ֥ית אַֽרְבֵ֖אל Beth-arbel bêt ʾarbēl בְּי֣וֹם in the day yôm מִלְחָמָ֑ה of battle: milḥāmâ אֵ֥ם the mother ʾēm עַל upon ʿal בָּנִ֖ים children. bēn רֻטָּֽשָׁה׃ was dashed in pieces rāṭaš

כָּ֗כָה So kākâ עָשָׂ֤ה do ʿāśâ לָכֶם֙ בֵּֽית אֵ֔ל shall Beth-el bêt ʾēl מִפְּנֵ֖י unto you because pānîm רָעַ֣ת of your great raʿ רָֽעַתְכֶ֑ם wickedness: raʿ בַּשַּׁ֕חַר in a morning šaḥar נִדְמֹ֥ה utterly dāmâ נִדְמָ֖ה be cut off. dāmâ מֶ֥לֶךְ shall the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel yiśrāʾēl
