இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் வெட்டின மற்றவர்களோடுங் கூட, பேயோரின் குமாரனாகிய பாலாம் என்னும் குறிசொல்லுகிறவனையும் பட்டயத்தினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்.

மக்கள் திரும்ப முகாமிற்கு வந்தபோது, இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பரானவர்கள், இன்று கர்த்தர் பெலிஸ்தர்களுக்கு முன்பாக நம்மை முறியடித்ததென்ன? சீலோவிலிருக்கிற கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப்பெட்டியைக் கொண்டுவருவோம்; அது நம்மை நம்முடைய எதிரியின் கைக்கு விலக்கி இரட்சிக்கும்படி, நம்முடைய நடுவில் வரவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

இஸ்ரவேல் வீரர்கள் தங்கள் முகாம்களுக்குத் திரும்பி வந்தனர். மூப்பர்கள், “கர்த்தர் ஏன் பெலிஸ்தர் நம்மைத் தோற்கடிக்கும்படிச் செய்தார்? சீலோவில் உள்ள நமது கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியைக் கொண்டுவருவோம். அதன்படி தேவன் நம்மோடு கூட போர்க்களத்துக்கு வருவார். அவர் நம்மை எதிரிகளிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்றுவார்” என்றனர்.
