அப்பொழுது இயேசு அவர்களுடனே கூடப்போனார். வீட்டுக்குச் சமீபமானபோது நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதி தன் சிநேகிதரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அவரிடத்தில் போய், ஆண்டவரே! நீர் வருத்தப்படவேண்டாம்; நீர் என் வீட்டு வாசலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்க நான் பாத்திரன் அல்ல;

அப்பொழுது இயேசு அவர்களோடு போனார். வீட்டிற்கு அருகில் சென்றபோது, அந்த படைஅதிபதி தன் நண்பரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இயேசுவிடம்போய், ஆண்டவரே! நீர் வருத்தப்படவேண்டாம்; நீர் என் வீட்டிற்குள் பிரவேசிக்க நான் தகுதியானவன் இல்லை;

எனவே இயேசு அந்த மனிதர்களோடு புறப்பட்டார். இயேசு அந்த அதிகாரியின் வீட்டை நெருங்குகையில் அதிகாரி தனது நண்பர்களை அனுப்பினான். அவர்களை இயேசுவிடம் “கர்த்தாவே, நீர் என் வீட்டுக்கு வர வேண்டியதில்லை. எங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு உம்மை அழைத்துச் செல்லும் அளவுக்கு நான் தகுதி உடையவன் அல்லன்.
