மத்தனியா, பக்புக்கியா, ஒபதியா, மெசுல்லாம், தல்மோன், அக்கூப் என்பவர்கள் வாசல்களிலிருக்கிற பொக்கிஷ அறைகளைக் காவல்காக்கிறவர்களாயிருந்தார்கள்.

பின்பு சவுல் தன்னுடைய ஊழியக்காரர்களைப் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் தாவீதோடு இரகசியமாகப் பேசி: இதோ, ராஜா உன்மேல் பிரியமாயிருக்கிறார்; அவருடைய ஊழியக்காரர்கள் எல்லோரும் உம்மை நேசிக்கிறார்கள்; இப்போதும் நீர் ராஜாவுக்கு மருமகனானால் நலம் என்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்று கற்பித்தான்.

சவுல் தன் அதிகாரிகளுக்கு கட்டளையிட்டு, “தனியாக தாவீதிடம் கூறுங்கள், பார், அரசனும் உன்னை விரும்புகிறான். அவரது அதிகாரிகளும் உன்னை விரும்புகின்றனர். நீ அவனுடைய மகளை மணக்க வேண்டும் என்று சொல்லுங்கள்” என்றான்.
