Proverbs 23 in Tamil

1 நீ ஒரு அதிபதியோடே போஜனம்பண்ண உட்கார்ந்தால், உனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறதை நன்றாய்க் கவனித்துப்பார். When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

2 நீ போஜனப்பிரியனாயிருந்தால், உன் தொண்டையிலே கத்தியை வை. And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3 அவனுடைய ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களை இச்சியாதே; அவைகள் கள்ளப்போஜனமாமே. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

4 ஐசுவரியவானாகவேண்டுமென்று பிரயாசப்படாதே; சுயபுத்தியைச் சாராதே. Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

5 இல்லாமற்போகும் பொருள்மேல் உன்கண்களைப் பறக்கவிடுவானேன்? அது கழுகைப்போல சிறகுகளைத் தனக்கு உண்டுபண்ணிக்கொண்டு, ஆகாயமார்க்கமாய்ப் பறந்துபோம். Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

6 வன்கண்ணனுடைய ஆகாரத்தைப் புசியாதே; அவனுடைய ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களை இச்சியாதே. Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

7 அவன் இருதயத்தின் நினைவு எப்படியோ, அப்படியே அவன் இருக்கிறான்; புசியும், பானம்பண்ணும் என்று அவன் உன்னோடே சொன்னாலும், அவன் இருதயம் உன்னோடே இராது. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

8 நீ புசித்த துணிக்கையை வாந்திபண்ணி, உன் இனிய சொற்களை இழந்துபோவாய். The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

9 மூடனுடைய செவிகள் கேட்கப்பேசாதே; அவன் உன் வார்த்தைகளின் ஞானத்தை அசட்டைபண்ணுவான். Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

10 பூர்வ எல்லைக்குறியை மாற்றாதே; திக்கற்ற பிள்ளைகளுடைய நிலங்களை அபகரித்துக்கொள்ளாதே. Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

11 அவர்களுடைய மீட்பர் வல்லவர்; அவர் உன்னுடனே அவர்களுக்காக வழக்காடுவார். For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

12 உன் இருதயத்தைப் புத்திமதிக்கும், உன் செவிகளை அறிவின் வார்த்தைகளுக்கும் சாய்ப்பாயாக. Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

13 பிள்ளையை தண்டியாமல் விடாதே; அவனைப் பிரம்பினால் அடித்தால் அவன் சாகான். Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

14 நீ பிரம்பினால் அவனை அடிக்கிறதினால் பாதாளத்துக்கு அவன் ஆத்துமாவைத் தப்புவிப்பாயே. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

15 என் மகனே, உன் இருதயம் ஞானமுள்ளதாயிருந்தால், என்னிலே என் இருதயம் மகிழும். My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

16 உன் உதடுகள் செம்மையானவைகளைப் பேசினால், என் உள்ளிந்திரியங்கள் மகிழும். Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

17 உன் மனதைப் பாவிகள்மேல் பொறாமைகொள்ள விடாதே; நீ நாடோறும் கர்த்தரைப் பற்றும் பயத்தோடிரு. Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

18 நிச்சயமாகவே முடிவு உண்டு; உன் நம்பிக்கை வீண்போகாது. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

19 என் மகனே, நீ செவிகொடுத்து ஞானமடைந்து, உன் இருதயத்தை நல்வழியிலே நடத்து. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

20 மதுபானப்பிரியரையும் மாம்சப்பெருந்தீனிக்காரரையும் சேராதே. Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

21 குடியனும் போஜனப்பிரியனும் தரித்திரராவார்கள்; தூக்கம் கந்தைகளை உடுத்துவிக்கும். For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22 உன்னைப் பெற்ற தகப்பனுக்குச் செவிகொடு; உன் தாய் வயதுசென்றவளாகும்போது அவளை அசட்டைபண்ணாதே. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23 சத்தியத்தை வாங்கு, அதை விற்காதே; அப்படியே ஞானத்தையும் உபதேசத்தையும் புத்தியையும் வாங்கு. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

24 நீதிமானுடைய தகப்பன் மிகவும் களிகூருவான்; ஞானமுள்ள பிள்ளையைப் பெற்றவன் அவனால் மகிழுவான். The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

25 உன் தகப்பனும் உன் தாயும் சந்தோஷப்படுவார்கள்; உன்னைப் பெற்றவள் மகிழுவாள். Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

26 என் மகனே, உன் இருதயத்தை எனக்குத் தா; உன் கண்கள் என் வழிகளை நோக்குவதாக. My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

27 வேசி ஆழமான படுகுழி; பரஸ்திரீ இடுக்கமான கிணறு. For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

28 அவள் கொள்ளைக்காரனைப்போல பதிவிருந்து, மனுஷருக்குள்ளே பாதகரைப் பெருகப்பண்ணுகிறாள். She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

29 ஐயோ! யாருக்கு வேதனை யாருக்குத் துக்கம்? யாருக்குச் சண்டைகள்? யாருக்குப் புலம்பல்? யாருக்குக் காரணமில்லாத காயங்கள்? யாருக்கு இரத்தங்கலங்கின கண்கள்? Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

30 மதுபானம் இருக்கும் இடத்திலே தங்கித் தரிப்பவர்களுக்கும், கலப்புள்ள சாராயத்தை நாடுகிறவர்களுக்குந்தானே. They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

31 மதுபானம் இரத்தவருணமாயிருந்து, பாத்திரத்தில் பளபளப்பாய்த் தோன்றும்போது, நீ அதைப் பாராதே; அது மெதுவாய் இறங்கும். Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

32 முடிவிலே அது பாம்பைப்போல் கடிக்கும், விரியனைப்போல் தீண்டும். At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

33 உன் கண்கள் பரஸ்திரீகளை நோக்கும்; உன் உள்ளம் தாறுமாறானவைகளைப் பேசும். Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

34 நீ நடுக்கடலிலே சயனித்திருக்கிறவனைப்போலும், பாய்மரத்தட்டிலே படுத்திருக்கிறவனைப்போலும் இருப்பாய். Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

35 என்னை அடித்தார்கள், எனக்கு நோகவில்லை; என்னை அறைந்தார்கள், எனக்குச் சுரணையில்லை; நான் அதைப் பின்னும் தொடர்ந்து தேட எப்பொழுது விழிப்பேன் என்பாய். They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

1 Nee oru athipathiyotae pojanampannna utkaarnthaal, unakku munpaaka irukkirathai nantayk kavaniththuppaar. When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

2 Nee pojanappiriyanaayirunthaal, un thonntaiyilae kaththiyai vai. And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3 Avanutaiya rusiyulla pathaarththangalai ichchiyaathae; avaikal kallappojanamaamae. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

4 Aisuvariyavaanaakavaenndumentu pirayaasappadaathae; suyapuththiyaich saaraathae. Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

5 Illaamarpokum porulmael unkannkalaip parakkaviduvaanaen? Athu kalukaippola sirakukalaith thanakku unndupannnnikkonndu, aakaayamaarkkamaayp paranthupom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

6 Vankannnanutaiya aakaaraththaip pusiyaathae; avanutaiya rusiyulla pathaarththangalai ichchiyaathae. Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

7 Avan iruthayaththin ninaivu eppatiyo, appatiyae avan irukkiraan; pusiyum, paanampannnum entu avan unnotae sonnaalum, avan iruthayam unnotae iraathu. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

8 Nee pusiththa thunnikkaiyai vaanthipannnni, un iniya sorkalai ilanthupovaay. The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

9 Moodanutaiya sevikal kaetkappaesaathae; avan un vaarththaikalin njaanaththai asattaைpannnuvaan. Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

10 Poorva ellaikkuriyai maattaாthae; thikkatta pillaikalutaiya nilangalai apakariththukkollaathae. Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

11 Avarkalutaiya meetpar vallavar; avar unnudanae avarkalukkaaka valakkaaduvaar. For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

12 Un iruthayaththaip puththimathikkum, un sevikalai arivin vaarththaikalukkum saayppaayaaka. Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

13 Pillaiyai thanntiyaamal vidaathae; avanaip pirampinaal atiththaal avan saakaan. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

14 Nee pirampinaal avanai atikkirathinaal paathaalaththukku avan aaththumaavaith thappuvippaayae. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

15 En makanae, un iruthayam njaanamullathaayirunthaal, ennilae en iruthayam makilum. My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

16 Un uthadukal semmaiyaanavaikalaip paesinaal, en ullinthiriyangal makilum. Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

17 Un manathaip paavikalmael poraamaikolla vidaathae; nee naatooraுm karththaraip pattaுm payaththotiru. Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

18 Nichchayamaakavae mutivu unndu; un nampikkai veennpokaathu. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

19 En makanae, nee sevikoduththu njaanamatainthu, un iruthayaththai nalvaliyilae nadaththu. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

20 Mathupaanappiriyaraiyum maamsapperuntheenikkaararaiyum seraathae. Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

21 Kutiyanum pojanappiriyanum thariththiraraavaarkal; thookkam kanthaikalai uduththuvikkum. For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22 Unnaip petta thakappanukkuch sevikodu; un thaay vayathusentavalaakumpothu avalai asattaைpannnnaathae. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23 Saththiyaththai vaangu, athai virkaathae; appatiyae njaanaththaiyum upathaesaththaiyum puththiyaiyum vaangu. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

24 Neethimaanutaiya thakappan mikavum kalikooruvaan; njaanamulla pillaiyaip pettavan avanaal makiluvaan. The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

25 Un thakappanum un thaayum santhoshappaduvaarkal; unnaip pettaval makiluvaal. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

26 En makanae, un iruthayaththai enakkuth thaa; un kannkal en valikalai Nnokkuvathaaka. My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

27 Vaesi aalamaana padukuli; parasthiree idukkamaana kinaraு. For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

28 Aval kollaikkaaranaippola pathivirunthu, manusharukkullae paathakaraip perukappannnukiraal. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

29 Aiyo! Yaarukku vaethanai yaarukkuth thukkam? Yaarukkuch sanntaikal? Yaarukkup pulampal? Yaarukkuk kaaranamillaatha kaayangal? Yaarukku iraththangalangina kannkal? Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

30 Mathupaanam irukkum idaththilae thangith tharippavarkalukkum, kalappulla saaraayaththai naadukiravarkalukkunthaanae. They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

31 Mathupaanam iraththavarunamaayirunthu, paaththiraththil palapalappaayth thontumpothu, nee athaip paaraathae; athu methuvaay irangum. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

32 Mutivilae athu paampaippol katikkum, viriyanaippol theenndum. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

33 Un kannkal parasthireekalai Nnokkum; un ullam thaaraுmaaraanavaikalaip paesum. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

34 Nee nadukkadalilae sayaniththirukkiravanaippolum, paaymaraththattilae paduththirukkiravanaippolum iruppaay. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

35 Ennai atiththaarkal, enakku Nnokavillai; ennai arainthaarkal, enakkuch surannaiyillai; naan athaip pinnum thodarnthu thaeda eppoluthu vilippaen enpaay. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
