בְּ֭נִי My son, bēn תּוֹרָתִ֣י my law; tôrâ אַל not ʾal תִּשְׁכָּ֑ח forget šākaḥ וּ֝מִצְוֹתַ֗י my commandments: miṣwâ יִצֹּ֥ר keep nāṣar לִבֶּֽךָ׃ but let thine heart lēb

כִּ֤י For kî אֹ֣רֶךְ length ʾōrek יָ֭מִים of days, yôm וּשְׁנ֣וֹת and long šāne חַיִּ֑ים life, ḥay וְ֝שָׁל֗וֹם and peace, šālôm יוֹסִ֥יפוּ shall they add to thee. yāsap לָֽךְ׃

חֶ֥סֶד mercy ḥēsēd וֶאֱמֶ֗ת and truth ʾemet אַֽל Let not ʾal יַעַ֫זְבֻ֥ךָ forsake ʿāzab קָשְׁרֵ֥ם thee: bind qāšar עַל them about ʿal גַּרְגְּרוֹתֶ֑יךָ thy neck; gargĕrôt כָּ֝תְבֵ֗ם write kātab עַל them upon ʿal ל֥וּחַ the table lûaḥ לִבֶּֽךָ׃ of thine heart: lēb

וּמְצָא So shalt thou find māṣāʾ חֵ֖ן favour ḥēn וְשֵֽׂכֶל understanding śekel ט֑וֹב and good ṭôb בְּעֵינֵ֖י in the sight ʿayin אֱלֹהִ֣ים of God ʾĕlōhîm וְאָדָֽם׃ and man. ʾādām

בְּטַ֣ח Trust bāṭaḥ אֶל in ʾēl יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּכָל with all kōl לִבֶּ֑ךָ thine heart; lēb וְאֶל unto ʾēl בִּֽ֝ינָתְךָ֗ thine own understanding. bînâ אַל not ʾal תִּשָּׁעֵֽן׃ and lean šāʿan

בְּכָל In all kōl דְּרָכֶ֥יךָ thy ways derek דָעֵ֑הוּ acknowledge yādaʿ וְ֝ה֗וּא him, and he hûʾ יְיַשֵּׁ֥ר shall direct yāšar אֹֽרְחֹתֶֽיךָ׃ thy paths. ʾōraḥ

אַל not ʾal תְּהִ֣י Be hāyâ חָכָ֣ם wise ḥākām בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ in thine own eyes: ʿayin יְרָ֥א fear yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt יְ֝הוָ֗ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְס֣וּר and depart sûr מֵרָֽע׃ from evil. raʿ

רִ֭פְאוּת health ripʾût תְּהִ֣י It shall be hāyâ לְשָׁרֶּ֑ךָ to thy navel, šōr וְ֝שִׁקּ֗וּי and marrow šiqqûy לְעַצְמוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ to thy bones. ʿeṣem

כַּבֵּ֣ד Honour kābad אֶת ʾēt יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ מֵהוֹנֶ֑ךָ with thy substance, hôn וּ֝מֵרֵאשִׁ֗ית and with the firstfruits rēʾšît כָּל of all kōl תְּבוּאָתֶֽךָ׃ thine increase: tĕbûʾâ

וְיִמָּלְא֣וּ be filled mālēʾ אֲסָמֶ֣יךָ So shall thy barns ʾāsām שָׂבָ֑ע with plenty, śābāʿ וְ֝תִיר֗וֹשׁ with new wine. tîrôš יְקָבֶ֥יךָ and thy presses yeqeb יִפְרֹֽצוּ׃ shall burst out pāraṣ

מוּסַ֣ר the chastening mûsār יְ֭הוָה of the Lord; yĕhōwâ בְּנִ֣י My son, bēn אַל not ʾal תִּמְאָ֑ס despise māʾas וְאַל neither ʾal תָּ֝קֹ֗ץ be weary qûṣ בְּתוֹכַחְתּֽוֹ׃ of his correction: tôkēḥâ

כִּ֤י For kî אֶ֥ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ʾăšer יֶאֱהַ֣ב loveth ʾāhab יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ יוֹכִ֑יחַ he correcteth; yākaḥ וּ֝כְאָ֗ב even as a father ʾāb אֶת ʾēt בֵּ֥ן the son bēn יִרְצֶֽה׃ he delighteth. rāṣâ

אַשְׁרֵ֣י Happy ʾešer אָ֭דָם the man ʾādām מָצָ֣א findeth māṣāʾ חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom, ḥokmâ וְ֝אָדָ֗ם and the man ʾādām יָפִ֥יק getteth pûq תְּבוּנָֽה׃ understanding. tābûn

כִּ֤י For kî ט֣וֹב of it better ṭôb סַ֭חְרָהּ the merchandise saḥar מִסְּחַר than the merchandise sāḥar כָּ֑סֶף of silver, kesep וּ֝מֵחָר֗וּץ thereof than fine gold. ḥărûṣ תְּבוּאָתָֽהּ׃ and the gain tĕbûʾâ

יְקָ֣רָה more precious yāqār הִ֭יא She hûʾ מִפְּנִייִ֑ם than rubies: pānîn וְכָל and all kōl חֲ֝פָצֶ֗יךָ the things thou canst desire ḥēpeṣ לֹ֣א are not lōʾ יִֽשְׁווּ to be compared unto her. šāwâ בָֽהּ׃

אֹ֣רֶךְ Length ʾōrek יָ֭מִים of days yôm בִּֽימִינָ֑הּ in her right hand; yāmîn בִּ֝שְׂמֹאולָ֗הּ in her left hand śĕmōwl עֹ֣שֶׁר riches ʿōšer וְכָבֽוֹד׃ and honour. kābôd

דְּרָכֶ֥יהָ Her ways derek דַרְכֵי ways derek נֹ֑עַם of pleasantness, nōʿam וְֽכָל and all kōl נְתִ֖יבוֹתֶ֣יהָ her paths nātîb שָׁלֽוֹם׃ peace. šālôm

עֵץ a tree ʿēṣ חַיִּ֣ים of life ḥay הִ֭יא She hûʾ לַמַּחֲזִיקִ֣ים to them that lay hold ḥāzaq בָּ֑הּ וְֽתֹמְכֶ֥יהָ that retaineth her. tāmak מְאֻשָּֽׁר׃ upon her: and happy ʾāšar

יְֽהוָ֗ה The Lord yĕhōwâ בְּחָכְמָ֥ה by wisdom ḥokmâ יָֽסַד hath founded yāsad אָ֑רֶץ the earth; ʾereṣ כּוֹנֵ֥ן hath he established kûn שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם the heavens. šāmayim בִּתְבוּנָֽה׃ by understanding tābûn

בְּ֭דַעְתּוֹ By his knowledge daʿat תְּהוֹמ֣וֹת the depths tĕhôm נִבְקָ֑עוּ are broken up, bāqaʿ וּ֝שְׁחָקִ֗ים and the clouds šaḥaq יִרְעֲפוּ drop down rāʿap טָֽל׃ the dew. ṭal

בְּ֭נִי My son, bēn אַל let not ʾal יָלֻ֣זוּ them depart lûz מֵעֵינֶ֑יךָ from thine eyes: ʿayin נְצֹ֥ר keep nāṣar תֻּ֝שִׁיָּ֗ה sound wisdom tûšiyyâ וּמְזִמָּֽה׃ and discretion: mĕzimmâ

וְיִֽהְי֣וּ So shall they be hāyâ חַיִּ֣ים life ḥay לְנַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ unto thy soul, nepeš וְ֝חֵ֗ן and grace ḥēn לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶֽיךָ׃ to thy neck. gargĕrôt

אָ֤ז Then ʾāz תֵּלֵ֣ךְ shalt thou walk hālak לָבֶ֣טַח safely, beṭaḥ דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ in thy way derek וְ֝רַגְלְךָ֗ and thy foot regel לֹ֣א shall not lōʾ תִגּֽוֹף׃ stumble. nāgap

אִם When ʾim תִּשְׁכַּ֥ב thou liest down, šākab לֹֽא thou shalt not lōʾ תִפְחָ֑ד be afraid: pāḥad וְ֝שָׁכַבְתָּ֗ yea, thou shalt lie down, šākab וְֽעָרְבָ֥ה shall be sweet. ʿārēb שְׁנָתֶֽךָ׃ and thy sleep šēnâ

אַל Be not ʾal תִּ֭ירָא afraid yārēʾ מִפַּ֣חַד fear, paḥad פִּתְאֹ֑ם of sudden pitʾôm וּמִשֹּׁאַ֥ת neither of the desolation šôʾ רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים of the wicked, rāšāʿ כִּ֣י when kî תָבֹֽא׃ it cometh. bôʾ

כִּֽי For kî יְ֭הוָה the Lord yĕhōwâ יִהְיֶ֣ה shall be hāyâ בְכִסְלֶ֑ךָ thy confidence, kesel וְשָׁמַ֖ר and shall keep šāmar רַגְלְךָ֣ thy foot regel מִלָּֽכֶד׃ from being taken. leked

אַל not ʾal תִּמְנַע Withhold mānaʿ ט֥וֹב good ṭôb מִבְּעָלָ֑יו from them to whom it is due, baʿal בִּהְי֨וֹת when it is hāyâ לְאֵ֖ל in the power ʾēl יָדְיךָ֣ of thine hand yād לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ to do ʿāśâ

אַל not ʾal תֹּ֘אמַ֤ר Say ʾāmar לְרֵֽעֲיךָ֙׀ unto thy neighbour, rēaʿ לֵ֣ךְ Go, hālak וָ֭שׁוּב and come again, šûb וּמָחָ֥ר and to morrow māḥār אֶתֵּ֗ן I will give; nātan וְיֵ֣שׁ when thou hast yēš אִתָּֽךְ׃ it by thee. ʾēt

אַל not ʾal תַּחֲרֹ֣שׁ evil raʿ עַל against ʿal רֵעֲךָ֣ thy neighbour, rēaʿ רָעָ֑ה Devise ḥāraš וְהֽוּא seeing he hûʾ יוֹשֵׁ֖ב dwelleth yāšab לָבֶ֣טַח securely beṭaḥ אִתָּֽךְ׃ by thee. ʾēt

אַל not ʾal תָּרִ֣וב Strive rîb עִם with ʿim אָדָ֣ם a man ʾādām חִנָּ֑ם without cause, ḥinnām אִם if ʾim לֹ֖א thee no lōʾ גְמָלְךָ֣ he have done gāmal רָעָֽה׃ harm. raʿ

אַל thou not ʾal תְּ֭קַנֵּא Envy qānāʾ בְּאִ֣ישׁ the oppressor, ʾîš חָמָ֑ס ḥāmās וְאַל none ʾal תִּ֝בְחַ֗ר and choose bāḥar בְּכָל kōl דְּרָכָֽיו׃ of his ways. derek

כִּ֤י For kî תוֹעֲבַ֣ת abomination tôʿēba יְהוָ֣ה to the Lord: yĕhōwâ נָל֑וֹז the froward lûz וְֽאֶת with ʾēt יְשָׁרִ֥ים the righteous. yāšār סוֹדֽוֹ׃ but his secret sôd

מְאֵרַ֣ת The curse mĕʾērâ יְ֭הוָה of the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּבֵ֣ית in the house bayit רָשָׁ֑ע of the wicked: rāšāʿ וּנְוֵ֖ה the habitation nāwe צַדִּיקִ֣ים of the just. ṣaddîq יְבָרֵֽךְ׃ but he blesseth bārak

אִם Surely ʾim לַלֵּצִ֥ים scorneth lûṣ הֽוּא he hûʾ יָלִ֑יץ the scorners: lûṣ וְ֝לַעֲנָיִ֗ים unto the lowly. ʿānāw יִתֶּן but he giveth nātan חֵֽן׃ grace ḥēn

כָּ֭בוֹד glory: kābôd חֲכָמִ֣ים The wise ḥākām יִנְחָ֑לוּ shall inherit nāḥal וּ֝כְסִילִ֗ים of fools. kĕsîl מֵרִ֥ים shall be the promotion rûm קָלֽוֹן׃ but shame qālôn
