அவன் தன் மனுஷரைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தர் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணின என் ஆண்டவன்மேல் என் கையைப் போடும்படியான இப்படிப்பட்ட காரியத்தை நான் செய்யாதபடிக்கு, கர்த்தர் என்னைக் காப்பாராக; அவர் கர்த்தரால் அபிஷேகம் பண்ணப்பட்டவர் என்று சொல்லி,

பின்பு தாவீது வெளியே போனான். யோனத்தான் நகரத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப் போனான். தாவீது நோப் எனும் நகரத்திற்கு ஆசாரியனான அகிமெலேக்கைப் பார்க்கப் போனான். அகிமெலேக்கு தாவீதை சந்திக்க வெளியே வந்தான். அவன் பயத்தால் நடுங்கினான். அவன், “ஏன் தனியாக வந்தீர்கள்? உங்களோடு ஏன் யாரும் வரவில்லை?” என்று கேட்டான்.
