உபாகமம் 20

1 நீ உன் சத்துருக்களுக்கு எதிராக யுத்தஞ்செய்யப் புறப்பட்டுப் போகையில், குதிரைகளையும் இரதங்களையும், உன்னிலும் பெரிய கூட்டமாகிய ஜனங்களையும் கண்டால், அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படாயாக; உன்னை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே இருக்கிறார். When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

2 நீங்கள் யுத்தஞ்செய்யத் தொடங்கும்போது, ஆசாரியன் சேர்ந்துவந்து, ஜனங்களிடத்தில் பேசி: And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

3 இஸ்ரவேலரே, கேளுங்கள்: இன்று உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுடன் யுத்தஞ்செய்யப் போகிறீர்கள்; உங்கள் இருதயம் துவளவேண்டாம்; நீங்கள் அவர்களைப் பார்த்துப் பயப்படவும் கலங்கவும் தத்தளிக்கவும் வேண்டாம். And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 உங்களுக்காக உங்கள் சத்துருக்களோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணவும் உங்களை இரட்சிக்கவும் உங்களோடே கூடப்போகிறவர் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரென்று சொல்லவேண்டும். For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

5 அன்றியும் அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: புதுவீட்டைக் கட்டி, அதைப் பிரதிஷ்டைபண்ணாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அதைப் பிரதிஷ்டைபண்ணவேண்டியதாகும். And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

6 திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தை நாட்டி, அதை அநுபவியாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அதை அநுபவிக்கவேண்டியதாகும். And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

7 ஒரு பெண்ணைத் தனக்கு நியமித்துக்கொண்டு, அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்குத்திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்; அவன் யுத்தத்திலே செத்தால் வேறொருவன் அவளை விவாகம்பண்ணவேண்டியதாகும் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும். And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

8 பின்னும் அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களுடனே பேசி: பயங்காளியும் திடனற்றவனுமாயிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் தன் சகோதரரின் இருதயத்தைத் தன் இருதயத்தைப்போலக் கரைந்துபோகப்பண்ணாதபடிக்கு, தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன் என்று சொல்லவேண்டும். And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.

9 அதிபதிகள் ஜனங்களோடே பேசிமுடிந்தபின்பு, ஜனங்களை நடத்தும்படி சேனைத்தலைவரை நியமிக்கக்கடவர்கள். And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

10 நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண நெருங்கும்போது, அந்தப் பட்டணத்தாருக்குச் சமாதானம் கூறக்கடவாய். When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

11 அவர்கள் உனக்குச் சமாதானமான உத்தரவுகொடுத்து, வாசலைத் திறந்தால், அதிலுள்ள ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் உனக்குப் பகுதி கட்டுகிறவர்களாகி, உனக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்யக்கடவர்கள். And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 அவர்கள் உன்னோடே சமாதானப்படாமல், உன்னோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணுவார்களானால், நீ அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டு, And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் அதை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, அதிலுள்ள புருஷர்கள் எல்லாரையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி, And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 ஸ்திரீகளையும் குழந்தைகளையும் மிருகஜீவன்களையும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடே வைத்து, பட்டணத்திலுள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் கொள்ளையிட்டு, உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்த உன் சத்துருக்களின் கொள்ளைப்பொருளை அநுபவிப்பாயாக. But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.

15 இந்த ஜாதிகளைச் சேர்ந்த பட்டணங்களாயிராமல், உனக்கு வெகுதூரத்திலிருக்கிற சகல பட்டணங்களுக்கும் இப்படியே செய்வாயாக. Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுக்கிற ஏத்தியர், எமோரியர், கானானியர், பெரிசியர், ஏவியர், எபூசியர் என்னும் ஜனங்களின் பட்டணங்களிலேமாத்திரம் சுவாசமுள்ளதொன்றையும் உயிரோடே வைக்காமல், But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 அவர்களை உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே சங்காரம்பண்ணக்கடவாய். But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

18 அவர்கள் தங்கள் தேவர்களுக்குச் செய்கிற தங்களுடைய சகல அருவருப்புகளின்படியே நீங்களும் செய்ய உங்களுக்குக் கற்றுக்கொடாமலும், நீங்கள் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்யாமலும் இருக்கும்படி இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும். That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God.

19 நீ ஒரு பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி அதைப் பிடிக்க அநேக நாள் அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டிருக்கும்போது, நீ கோடரியை ஓங்கி, அதின் மரங்களைவெட்டிச் சேதம்பண்ணாயாக; அவைகளின் கனியை நீ புசிக்கலாமே; ஆகையால் உனக்குக் கொத்தளத்திற்கு உதவுமென்று அவைகளை வெட்டாயாக; வெளியின் விருட்சங்கள் மனுஷனுடைய ஜீவனத்துக்கானவைகள். When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:

20 புசிக்கிறதற்கேற்ற கனி கொடாத மரம் என்று நீ அறிந்திருக்கிற மரங்களைமாத்திரம் வெட்டியழித்து, உன்னோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணுகிற பட்டணம் பிடிபடுமட்டும் அதற்கு எதிராகக் கொத்தளம்போடலாம். Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.
