தேவன் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்து, நீ உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் முகத்திற்கு விலகி ஓடிப்போகிறபோது, உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கு என்றார்.

பின்பு அவன் அவ்விடம் விட்டுப் பெயர்ந்து, பெத்தேலுக்குக் கிழக்கே இருக்கும் மலைக்குப் போய், பெத்தேல் தனக்கு மேற்காகவும் ஆயீ கிழக்காகவும் இருக்கக் கூடாரம் போட்டு, அங்கே கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தைத் தொழுதுகொண்டான்.

அவன் தன் பிரயாணங்களிலே தெற்கேயிருந்து பெத்தேல் மட்டும், பெத்தேலுக்கும் ஆயீக்கும் நடுவாகத் தான் முன்பு கூடாரம்போட்டதும்,

சாராயின் அடிமைப்பெண்ணாகிய ஆகாரே, எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய்? எங்கே போகிறாய்? என்று கேட்டார்; அவள்: நான் என் நாச்சியாராகிய சாராயைவிட்டு ஓடிப்போகிறேன் என்றாள்.

ஆபிரகாம் அந்த இடத்துக்கு யேகோவாயீரே என்று பேரிட்டான்; அதினாலே கர்த்தருடைய பர்வதத்திலே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளப்படும் என்று இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் சொல்லப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

யாக்கோபைத் தன் தகப்பன் ஆசீர்வதித்ததினிமித்தம் ஏசா யாக்கோபைப் பகைத்து: என் தகப்பனுக்காகத் துக்கிக்கும் நாட்கள் சீக்கிரமாய் வரும், அப்பொழுது என் சகோதரனாகிய யாக்கோபைக் கொன்றுபோடுவேன் என்று ஏசா தன் இருதயத்திலே சொல்லிக் கொண்டான்.

James பெயெர்செபாவை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு ஆரானுக்குப் போகப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி,

கர்த்தர் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: உன் பிதாக்களுடைய தேசத்திற்கும் உன் இனத்தாரிடத்திற்கும் நீ திரும்பிப்போ; நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருப்பேன் என்றார்.

நீ தூணுக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்து, எனக்கு ஒரு பொருத்தனையைப் பண்ணின பெத்தேலிலே உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவன் நானே; இப்பொழுது நீ எழுந்து, இந்தத் தேசத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, உன் இனத்தாரிருக்கிற தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போ என்று சொன்னார் என்றான்.

அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, தன் சகோதரனுடைய முகத்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடினபோது, அங்கே தனக்கு தேவன் தரிசனமானபடியால், அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு ஏல்பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

பார்வோன் அந்தக் காரியத்தைக் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, மோசேயைக் கொலை செய்ய வகை தேடினான். மோசே பார்வோனிடத்தினின்று தப்பியோடி, மீதியான் தேசத்தில் போய்த் தங்கி, ஒரு துரவண்டையிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்.

கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய ஜனங்களை நியாயந்தீர்த்து, அவர்கள் பெலன்போயிற்றென்றும், அடைக்கப்பட்டவர்களாவது விடுதலை பெற்றவர்களாவது ஒருவரும் இல்லையென்றும் காணும்போது, தம்முடைய ஊழியக்காரர்மேல் பரிதாபப்படுவார்.

தேவன் நமக்கு அடைக்கலமும் பெலனும், ஆபத்துக்காலத்தில் அநுகூலமுமான துணையுமானவர்.

தமக்குப் பிரியமான யாக்கோபின் சிறப்பான தேசத்தை நமக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகத் தெரிந்தளிப்பார். (சேலா.)

அவன் என்னை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிடுவான், நான் அவனுக்கு மறுஉத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்வேன்; ஆபத்தில் நானே அவனோடிருந்து, அவனைத் தப்புவித்து, அவனைக் கனப்படுத்துவேன்.

நீ தேவனுக்கு ஒரு பொருத்தனைபண்ணிக்கொண்டால், அதைச் செலுத்தத் தாமதியாதே; அவர் மூடரில் பிரியப்படுகிறதில்லை, நீ நேர்ந்துகொண்டதைச்செய்.

அவன் தூதனானவரோடே போராடி மேற்கொண்டான், அழுது அவரை நோக்கிக் கெஞ்சினான்; பெத்தேலிலே அவர் அவனைக் கண்டு சந்தித்து, அவ்விடத்திலும் நம்மோடே பேசினார்.

இதோ, சமாதானத்தைக் கூறுகிற சுவிசேஷகனுடைய கால்கள் மலைகளின்மேல் வருகிறது; Judeவே, உன்பண்டிகைகளை ஆசரி; உன் பொருத்தனைகளைச் செலுத்து; துஷ்டன் இனி உன் வழியாய்க் கடந்துவருவதில்லை, அவன் முழுதும் சங்கரிக்கப்பட்டான்.
