கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: ஜனங்கள் இன்னும் அதிகம், அவர்களைத் தண்ணீரண்டைக்கு இறங்கிப்போகப்பண்ணு; அங்கே அவர்களைப் பரீட்சித்துக்காட்டுவேன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாம் என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வரக்கடவன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாகாது என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வராதிருக்கக்கடவன் என்றார்.

அப்போது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி, “இப்போதும் ஆட்கள் மிகுதியாக இருக்கிறார்கள், அவர்களை தண்ணீரருகே அழைத்துச் செல். உனக்காக அவர்களை அங்கு பரிசோதிப்பேன். ‘இந்த மனிதன் உன்னோடு செல்வான்’ என்று நான் கூறினால் அவன் போவான். ‘அவன் உன்னோடு செல்லமாட்டான்’ என்று நான் கூறினால் அவன் போகமாட்டான்” என்றார்.
