அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டு: ஆ கர்த்தாவே, இந்த மனுஷனுடைய ஜீவன் நிமித்தம் எங்களை அழித்துப்போடாதேயும்; குற்றமில்லாத இரத்தப்பழியை எங்கள்மேல் சுமத்தாதேயும்; தேவரீர் கர்த்தர்; உமக்குச் சித்தமாயிருக்கிறபடி செய்கிறீர் என்று சொல்லி,

எனவே அவர்கள் கர்த்தரிடம், “கர்த்தாவே, நாங்கள் இவனை அவன் செய்த தவறுக்காக கடலில் தூக்கி எறிகிறோம். எனவே, ஒரு அப்பாவி மனிதனைக் கொன்றோம் என்று எங்களைக் குற்றப்படுத்தாதிரும். நாங்கள் அவனைக் கொன்றதற்காக எங்களை மரிக்கச் செய்யாதிரும். நீர்தான் கர்த்தர், நீர் என்ன செய்ய விரும்புகிறீரோ அதைச் செய்வீர் என்பதை நாங்கள் அறிகிறோம். ஆனால் தயவு செய்து எங்களிடம் இரக்கமாய் இரும்” என்று அழுதார்கள்.

அவர்கள் அதைக் கண்டு ஆண்டவரை நோக்கிக் கதறி, “ஆண்டவரே, இந்த மனிதனுடைய உயிரின் பொருட்டு எங்களை அழிய விடவேண்டாம்; குற்றமில்லாத ஒருவனைச் சாகடித்ததாக எங்கள்மீது பழி சுமத்தவேண்டாம். ஏனெனில், ஆண்டவராகிய நீரே உமது திருவுளத்திற்கேற்ப இவ்வாறு செய்கிறீர்” என்று சொல்லி மன்றாடினார்கள்.
