என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்கமாட்டோம் என்று மறுத்து, தங்கள் இருதயத்தின் கடினத்தின்படி நடந்து, அந்நிய தேவர்களைச் சேவிக்கவும் அவர்களைப் பணிந்துகொள்ளவும் அவர்களைப் பின்பற்றுகிற இந்தப் பொல்லாத ஜனங்கள் ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாமற்போன இந்தக் கச்சையைப்போலாவார்கள் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

யூதாவிலுள்ள வீண் பெருமையும், தீமையும்கொண்ட ஜனங்களை, நான் அழிப்பேன். அவர்கள் எனது வார்த்தையைக் கேட்க மறுத்தனர். அவர்கள் பிடிவாதமுள்ளவர்களாக விரும்புகின்றவற்றை மட்டுமே செய்தனர். அவர்கள் அந்நிய தெய்வங்களைப் பின் பற்றி தொழுதுகொண்டனர். யூதாவிலுள்ள அந்த ஜனங்கள் இந்தச் சணல் இடுப்புத் துணியைப்போன்று ஆவார்கள். அவர்கள் அழிக்கப்பட்டு எதற்கும் பயனற்றுப் போவார்கள்.
