ஜனங்களோ சவுலை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலிலே இந்தப் பெரிய இரட்சிப்பைச் செய்த யோனத்தான் கொலைசெய்யப்படலாமா? அது கூடாது; அவன் தலையில் இருக்கிற ஒரு மயிரும் தரையிலே விழப்போகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு ஆணையிட்டுச் சொல்லுகிறோம்; தேவன் துணை நிற்க அவன் இன்று காரியத்தை நடப்பித்தான் என்றார்கள்; அப்படியே யோனத்தான் சாகாதபடிக்கு, ஜனங்கள் அவனைத் தப்புவித்தார்கள்.

மக்களோ சவுலை பார்த்து: இஸ்ரவேலிலே இந்தப் பெரிய இரட்சிப்பைச் செய்த யோனத்தான் கொலை செய்யப்படலாமா? அது கூடாது; அவனுடைய தலையில் இருக்கிற ஒரு முடியும் தரையிலே விழப்போகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு ஆணையிட்டுச் சொல்லுகிறோம்; தேவன் துணை நிற்க அவன் இன்று காரியத்தை நடப்பித்தான் என்றார்கள்; அப்படியே யோனத்தான் சாகாதபடி, மக்கள் அவனைத் தப்புவித்தார்கள்.

ஆனால் வீரர்களோ, “இன்று யோனத்தான் இஸ்ரவேலருக்குப் பெரிய வெற்றியைத் தந்தான். அவன் மரிக்கக்கூடாது! ஜீவனுள்ள தேவனுடைய நாமத்தில் நாங்களும் சத்தியம் செய்கிறோம். யோனத்தானின் தலையிலிருந்து யாரும் ஒரு மயிரையேனும் அகற்ற முடியாது! தேவன் இன்று அவனுக்குப் பெலிஸ்தர்களை வெல்ல உதவினார்!” என்றனர். எனவே யோனத்தானை ஜனங்கள் காப்பாற்றினார்கள். அவன் கொல்லப்படவில்லை.

ஆனால், மக்கள் சவுலை நோக்கி, “இஸ்ரயேலுக்காக இவ்வளவு பெரிய விடுதலையைக் கொணர்ந்த யோனத்தான் சாகலாமா? அது கூடவே கூடாது! ஆண்டவர் மேல் ஆணை! அவர் தலையிலிருந்து ஒரு முடி தரையில் விழக்கூடாது. ஏனெனில், கடவுளின் துணையோடுதான் இன்று அவர் செயல்பட்டார்” என்றார்கள். இவ்வாறு, வீரர்கள் அவரை சாவினின்று தப்புவித்தார்கள்.

Athu koodaathu; avan thalaiyil irukkira oru mayirum tharaiyilae vilappokirathillai entu karththarutaiya jeevanaikkonndu aannaiyittuch sollukirom; Dhevan thunnai nirka avan intu kaariyaththai nadappiththaan entarkal; appatiyae yonaththaan saakaathapatikku, janangal avanaith thappuviththaarkal.
