அவர் நடந்துபோகையில், அல்பேயுவின் குமாரனாகிய லேவி ஆயத்துறையில் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிறதைக் கண்டு; எனக்குப் பின்சென்றுவா என்றார்; அவன் எழுந்து அவருக்குப் பின்சென்றான்.

அப்பொழுது அவர் நடந்துபோகும்போது, அல்பேயுவின் குமாரனாகிய லேவி வரிவசூலிக்கும் மையத்தில் உட்கார்ந்திருப்பதைப் பார்த்து: என் பின்னே வா என்றார்; அவன் எழுந்து அவருக்குப் பின்னேசென்றான்.

கடற்கரையையொட்டி நடந்து செல்லும்போது அல்பேயுவின் மகனான லேவி என்னும் வரி வசூலிப்பவனைக் கண்டார். லேவி வரி வசூலிப்பு அலுவலகத்தில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான். அவனிடம் இயேசு “என்னைப் பின் தொடர்ந்து வா” என்றார். உடனே லேவி எழுந்து அவரைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தான்.
