ஆகாப் நாபோத்தோடே பேசி: உன் திராட்சத்தோட்டம் என் வீட்டிற்கு அடுத்திருக்கிறபடியால், அதைக் கீரைக்கொல்லையாக்கும்படி எனக்குக் கொடு, அதைப்பார்க்கிலும் நல்ல திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தை அதற்குப் பதிலாக உனக்குத் தருவேன்; அல்லது உனக்கு வேண்டுமானால், அதின் விலைக்கிரயமான பணத்தைத் தருவேன் என்றான்.

ஒரு நாள் அரசன் அவனிடம், “உனது வயலை எனக்குக்கொடு. அதனைக் காய்கறி தோட்டமாக்க வேண்டும். இது என் அரண்மனைக்கருகில் உள்ளது. உனக்கு அந்த இடத்தில் வேறு திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்தைத் தருவேன் அல்லது நீ விரும்பினால் பணம் தருவேன்” என்றான்.

ஆகாபு நாபோத்திடம், “உன் திராட்சைத் தோட்டம் என் அரண்மனை அருகிலிருப்பதால், நான் அதைக் காய்கறித் தோட்டம் ஆக்கும்படி என்னிடம் கொடுத்து விடு. அதற்குப் பதிலாய் அதைவிட நல்ல திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்தை உனக்குத் தருவேன். உனக்கு விருப்பமானால், அதன் விலையை வெள்ளியாகத் தருகிறேன்” என்றான்.

And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

Naboth, נָב֣וֹת׀ nābôt na-VOTE
saying, לֵאמֹר֩׀ ʾāmar ah-MAHR
Give תְּנָה nātan na-TAHN

thy vineyard, כַּרְמְךָ֜ kerem keh-REM
that I may have וִֽיהִי hāyâ ha-YA
לִ֣י
it for a garden לְגַן gan ɡahn
of herbs, יָרָ֗ק yārāq ya-RAHK
because כִּ֣י kî kee
it ה֤וּא hûʾ hoo
near קָרוֹב֙ qārôb ka-ROVE
unto אֵ֣צֶל ʾēṣel ay-TSEL
my house: בֵּיתִ֔י bayit ba-YEET
and I will give וְאֶתְּנָ֤ה nātan na-TAHN
