கர்த்தர் செலொப்பியாத்தின் குமாரத்திகளைக் குறித்த காரியத்தில் கட்டளையிடுகிறதாவது: அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு இஷ்டமானவர்களை விவாகஞ்செய்யலாம்; ஆனாலும், தங்கள் பிதாவின் கோத்திரவம்சத்தாரில் மாத்திரம் அவர்கள் விவாகஞ்செய்யவேண்டும்.

செலொப்பியாத்தின் மகள்கள் விஷயத்தில் கர்த்தர் கூறும் கட்டளைகளாவன: அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு விருப்பமானவர்களை மணந்துகொள்ளலாம். எனினும் அவர்கள் தங்கள் தந்தையின் கோத்திரத்தில் உள்ளவர்களை மட்டுமே மணந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்.
