அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் அவனை நோக்கி: கர்த்தர் இன்று உம்மிடத்திலிருந்த இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜ்யத்தைக் கிழித்துப்போட்டு; உம்மைப்பார்க்கிலும் உத்தமனாயிருக்கிற உம்முடைய தோழனுக்கு அதைக் கொடுத்தார்.

இப்போதோ உம்முடைய ராஜ்யபாரம் நிலைநிற்காது; கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய இருதயத்திற்கு ஏற்ற ஒரு மனுஷனைத் தமக்குத் தேடி, அவனைக் கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய ஜனங்கள்மேல் தலைவனாயிருக்கக் கட்டளையிட்டார்; கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விதித்த கட்டளையை நீர் கைக்கொள்ளவில்லையே என்று சொன்னான்.

கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை நோக்கி: எகிப்தியரும், எமோரியரும், அம்மோன் புத்திரரும், பெலிஸ்தியரும்,

கர்த்தர் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாயிராதபடிக்கு, நான் புறக்கணித்துத் தள்ளின சவுலுக்காக நீ எந்தமட்டும் துக்கித்துக்கொண்டிருப்பாய்; நீ உன் கொம்பை தைலத்தால் நிரப்பிக்கொண்டுவா; பெத்லெகேமியனாகிய ஈசாயினிடத்துக்கு உன்னை அனுப்புவேன்; அவன் குமாரரில் ஒருவனை நான் ராஜாவாகத் தெரிந்துகொண்டேன் என்றார்.

உன் பிள்ளைகள் இவ்வளவுதானா என்று ஈசாயைக் கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவன்: இன்னும் எல்லாருக்கும் இளையவன் ஒருவன் இருக்கிறான்; அவன் ஆடுகளை மேய்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான் என்றான்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் ஈசாயை நோக்கி: ஆள் அனுப்பி அவனை அழைப்பி; அவன் இங்கே வருமட்டும் நான் பந்தியிருக்கமாட்டேன் என்றான்.

சவுல் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரிக்கும் போது, கர்த்தர் அவனுக்குச் சொப்பனங்களினாலாவது, ஊரீமினாலாவது, தீர்க்கதரிசிகளினாலாவது மறு உத்தரவு அருளவில்லை.

கர்த்தர் என்னைக்கொண்டு சொன்னபடியே செய்து முடித்து, ராஜ்யத்தை உன் கையிலிருந்து பறித்து, அதை உன் தோழனாகிய தாவீதுக்குக் கொடுத்துவிட்டார்.

நான் ராஜ்யபாரத்தைச் சவுலின் குடும்பத்தை விட்டுத் தாண்டப்பண்ணி, தாவீதின் சிங்காசனத்தைத் தாண் துவக்கிப் பெயெர்செபாமட்டுள்ள இஸ்ரவேலின்மேலும் யூதாவின்மேலும் நிலைநிறுத்தும்படிக்கு,

கர்த்தருடைய வாக்கின்படியே, சவுலின் ராஜ்யபாரத்தைத் தாவீதினிடமாய்த் திருப்ப, எப்ரோனிலிருக்கிற அவனிடத்துக்கு வந்த யுத்த சன்னத்தரான தலைவரின் இலக்கமாவன:

இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பர் எல்லாரும் எப்ரோனில் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்தார்கள்; தாவீதுராஜா எப்ரோனிலே கர்த்தருக்குமுன்பாக அவர்களோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணினபின்பு, அவர்கள் தாவீதை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

நன்மைக்குத் தீமைசெய்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் வீட்டைவிட்டுத் தீமை நீங்காது.

அவனோ அப்படி எண்ணுகிறதுமில்லை, அவன் இருதயம் அப்படிப்பட்டதை நினைக்கிறதுமில்லை; அநேகம் ஜாதிகளை அழிக்கவும் சங்கரிக்கவுமே தன் மனதிலே நினைவுகொள்ளுகிறான்.

கோடரியானது தன்னால் வெட்டுகிறவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் மேன்மை பாராட்டலாமோ? வாளானது தன்னைக் கையாடுகிறவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பெருமைபாராட்டலாமோ? பாராட்டினால், தடியானது தன்னைப் பிடித்தவனை மிரட்டினாற்போலவும், கோலானது நான் மரக்கட்டையல்லவென்று எழும்பினாற்போலவும் இருக்குமே.

மனுபுத்திரனே, இந்த மனுஷர் தங்கள் நரகலான விக்கிரகங்களைத் தங்கள் இருதயத்தின்மேல் நாட்டி, தங்கள் அக்கிரமமாகிய இடறலைத் தங்கள் முகத்துக்கு எதிராக வைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்களே; இவர்கள் என்னிடத்தில் விசாரிக்கத்தகுமா?
